Not wanting to leave ya'll in suspense, I figured I'd do a real quick update for the week. As it stands right now, I'm thinking by the end of the week, first part of next week, I should have decals on. Where I'm at for the moment:
Engines have been scribed and primered, waiting for paint and paint detailing work
Fuselage has already been given a black basecoat, and has already received the first portion of SEA Camo, Dark green - I'll do the Dark Tan next, hopefully get started on that tomorrow or friday.
Finishing up the cockpit detail, had to grab a pilot (seeing as it will be a "flying" kit, and this ain't no UAV....) out of a monogram thud kit that won't be needing it (that will be a "static display kit"). Had to melt him a bit to fit the seat, but he'll on real good; just need to get him painted as well, and then I'll be ready to attach the lower portion of the front fuselage. Funny note on that; i was comparing pilots between the old Monogram F-104 and the Thud-D kit, and despite the fact that they're both 1/48, the pilots are scaled differently from each other (like one had a bigger head, differing size of arm and legs, etc); showed my wife and she said they were just molding a short guy for one and a big guy for the other, cracked me up when she said that...
That's where I stand; I'd have pictures but I've been tied up with my other "modeling project", a 75 galllon fish tank that I'm trying to get all spruced up to look like a section of the Amazon, which so far has turned out pretty well; I started work on it monday and finished this evening. Now I need to let it sit up for a few weeks so it can cycle, then I can start adding Discus!

(this is off of wiki, so it's public domain!)
That's what i get to look forward to, only when I get mine, they'll be much smaller....
I can post pics of what I got later if anyone wants to seem 'em. I'd do it now but I've not been able to get any good ones cause of the lighting, so that will have to wait till tomorrow.
Anyhoo, this is what's kept me from working on and taking pics of the Hustler this week. Now that the tank is set up, I can go back to my project so I can move on to the next one, woohoo!
Till next time!

So, done some more digging and...well actually reading what it says on the paint guide :P
I want to build a F-105 F from 49th TFW, 9th TFS 1967 ...and I need to know if it was painted in silver or if it was a NMF, since it does quite alot for the end result, a shiny NMF with differently colored panels or a evenly painted fuselage with a duller silver hue....
And did it have the ECM canoes on the fuselage?
Cheers!
Aigore,
As far as a 49th FW bird, there's a set of decals in 1/48 from Squadron for the 49th TFW Thuds (it's a sheet with 4th and 49th FW markings, from Superscale International), which I have for my D whenever I get around to building it,but could work for your F (if you go look up 49th Fighter Wing in wiki, there's a pic of an F with the same markings as are on that sheet). My understanding is that they were painted in an "aluminized polyurethane", so I think either straight up aluminum or NMF would work best for what you want to do. There is a D at the HAFB airpark, but sadly it isn't painted to standard as it is in S.E.A. Camo and not Aluminum as the wing thuds were (and neither are there any obvious 49th FW markings on it - i think someone was lazy.....). Though the Wing building does have a properly marked, large scale (looks bigger than 1/32) D model thud hanging from the ceilling in the foyer area.
HTH,
Justin

Hasegawa, Italeri and Dragon/CyberHobby all have various version of the F-35 listed in 72nd for this year.
So how about in 1/48? maybe something from Academy or Tamigawa in the near future?

Well, the F-22 was named after the Feathered Friend pictured above, not the other way around ...

Beautiful EA-6A!

That's definitely some great motivation for me to get around to mine; Love the detail work! How'd you make your base for that?
great job!

I'll make this a quick update as I really want to go to bed, but alas, I also want to post pictures. my compressor busted today while working over at a friend's house (helping him paint), so I have to run back to the store tomorrow and get it swapped out (easy as pie - thank God i got the service package with it), and then I can get back to painting!
So far I've gotten the black basecoat painted, and got started on the Dark Green for the the first (and darkest) shade of the camoflage for the Hustler.
Here's where I'm at with that:
Flat Black coat applied - Dark Green coat applied

Thats where I was at last till my compressor fried.
The other stuff I've gotten finished in the mean time:
Prepping and masking of the windshield:

Scribing work on the engines:

I've also finished assembling the nukes, they're just awaiting a paint-job - I'd show these, I can't post anymore pics in this post right now; so that will have to wait till tomorrow's update.
I've also got the basecoat on the burner cans and other engine components - they'll get several other various coats of paint to get a nice finished look. I'll wait to add those pics later. With that said, this concludes tonight's update, more to follow tomorrow after I get the compressor issue fixed!
Cheers,
Justin

Greetings!
I'm entering the Monogram F-100D for this particular group build. I'll be modeling another aircraft from the 49th FW at Holloman (just like the AT-38B in the trainer group build), and I'll most likely be building the simultaneously with that one. I'm pretty excited with this, as this will be my first time working with Alcad II for NMF. As with my trainer group build; I'll only be using aftermarket decals (in this case from Aeromaster).
Here's what I'll be working with; I'll be building the second aircraft on that particular sheet:

and a close up of the sheet:

That's it for now, more to come when I go to start the actual building process!
Goodnight!

I'm entering this build with a 1/48 Sword T-38A, which I will be modifying to a AT-38B weapons trainer (matter of scratchbuilding a weapons pylon). The only aftermarket I'll be using will be the TwoBobs T-38A Aggressive Talons sheet; everything else is OOB, aside from the scratch-built pylon which I'll be adding.
Here's a pic of what I'll be working with:

and a close-up of the decals (the bird I'm doing is on the bottom):

I'll add more pics of the build-in-progress once I get the ball rolling.
Till then, stay tuned!
Cheers!

It probably could've been pulled off with one of the class III laser pointers; I got one at the PX while deployed, and I was able to see the green dot on the building I was painting at over a mile away. Granted, that as the distance increases, so does the size of the beam. Mine is a green laser too; so I think it's entirely possible to do it depending on how far away the folks doing it were from the approaching aircraft. Granted, it's no $5 special from office max, mine cost me $92.00 (I was bored).
Funny story on that; I've been deployed to Kosovo, and when we were there we had Apache support (since I've left I heard that's not the case nowadays). Well, Apparently some Kosovo Police (KPS) officers thought it'd be neat to use their radar gun on one of our apache's as it was flying over cause they wanted to see how fast it was going; well, apparently theirs was laser, because as soon as they lazed it it swung around and started coming for them (since it was locked on to the source of the "laser"). Not only did they get scared ****less, they also got a good talking to from out general staff informing them of how close they came to getting their butts toasted, and not doing that again.

I'm in with the old 1/48 Monogram F-100D, with AeroMaster 49th TFW markings.
-
I'm in with a Sword 1/48 T-38A Talon in TwoBobs HAFB markings (and probably some scratchbuilding to make it an AT-38B).

Looking good! Can't wait to see more

On your cable, you could use sprue that's been heated and then stretched to make a cable - it won't sag after you've attached it. I use the same thing on my ship models when I need rigging. Works great!

Just one question...Where is the Jolly Roger supposed to go?
Where it's most jolly....

AT-38B Talon from Holloman AFB
in The Trainer Group Build
Posted
Mike,
Thanks! I'm hoping to get started on this over the weekend! Hopefully I shall not dissapoint. Figured I'd do this kit as it's going to be for a diorama I'm doing for my wife (being Army myself, she is the reason I'm living on an airbase for the moment). The diorama (in which all subjects will be 1/48 scale, so pretty good sized) I'm doing will be of the airpark here on base. They have the AT-38B in the paint scheme on the bottom of this twobobs sheet, so that's why I chose this particular plane. Seeing as how I needed to build it anyway, the GB gave me a good opportunity to get cracking on it. :D
Take care,
Justin
