The reason you can't see me is because I'm behind you....
:D -
mentioned in my other thread that I got a new workbench, so I figured I'd post it on here - I added the wood to it and made the shelf myself.
My bench:

So glad that I have an actual workbench, and not this thing anymore:

but I CAN see myself in that mirror

Youtube is available on their personal computers - just not the offical government nets that the DOD use. They do have their own service over there provided by local contractors - some places it sucketh much; others, its not so bad.

update continued......
Once I finished the one side, I decided to take a break from the gear bays and switch to the assembly of the main parts. For the most part it went pretty smoothly, except for the tail which had pathetic fit issues. Having test fitted the tail to the upper fuselage many times before, I knew there would be some (large gaps, and parts where the underside of the tail would'nt even match up with the underside of the fuselage); but the plain and simple is it sucks. One would think Revellogram would have taken the time to figure the fit issue before production; but sadly no.
it was a horrible match up, which involved a large amount of putty and sanding to correct. This part of the underside of the tail was the worst part.

as you can tell from the pic, there is nasty overhang there on the lower half; putty helped, but ultimately the centerline of the tail was off and didn't even match up with the main body, oi......

But here's what I had at the end of today:

Tail section was installed and lower wing half was attached to the upper, bomb racks installed; not to mention the work on the gear bays. And here's the lower fuselage with the cockpit:

and the racks:

So thats it for today - I've gotten some scribing work on the turbojets taken care of, but I've not taken pics as of yet; they'll most likely be added tomorrow sometime.
Till tomorrow, goodnight! and to all the mother's out there, Happy Mother's Day!
See ya'll next time!

As promised! End of week pictures!
With the new "modeling station" in place, I resumed work this week on the Hustler - and here's pics of what I accomplished this week (and mostly today at that)
So, since I've decided to go with gear up for the hanging ceilling look, I started this week with the gear bay doors. the front gear bay was relatively easy; the rear bays on the other hand are a different story - I've had to do some scratch building to make them work. But alas, I'll start with the front gear doors.

The only option that the kit had was gear down, so I had to do some modifying to get what I wanted. As you can tell from the picture, the gear contained some detailing for the interior of the bay. The details for the bays were pretty sparse, so no great loss in doing the gear in the "up" position. for the front gear, I cut off the excess, useless details, so all I had left were the gear doors themselves. I sanded them down, test fitted them, and then glued them in with Krazy glue. Krazy glue isn't my first choice; but given the difficulty of the plastic I was working with, it's the best option.
The finished product turned out pretty good, and this is what it looks like:

After that, I moved on to the rear main gear doors. These were the "fun" part. I had to do a bit of scratch building here in order to make them work, but I think they'll turn out nicely. I'll post the finished product here tomorrow as I'm letting the putty cure for a bit before I go in and finish sanding.
First, the material:

These are the doors with the interior sidewall detail still attached; the first thing I did was cut that off, and prep the doors for a brass tube that I needed to use to finish off the gear (the only portion of the gear that's "semi-exposed") for the door. I had to cut part of the center section of the doors to fit the tube in (figured that cutting the plastic would be way easier than cutting the metal :-) ).
Here's what I had:

and now fitted with the rod:

Next, work on the gear bay! First thing I did was cover the inside of the gear bay with sheet styrene:
Inside view:

Outside view:

I covered it with a thin sheet of styrene, and then cut a thick piece the exact size of the opening and glued it to the thin piece; finally glueing the gear doors and the brass tube in place on top of that.
Here's the finished product prior to puttying:

and a side profile with a better view of the styrene work:

and now with the putty:

I'll have to continue this in another post - not enough room for all the pictures.

For high-end, thin decals (most anything Microscale prints), Micro Set and Sol are enough. For thicker ones, use Solvaset. For really stubbon ones, use Champ's stuff. If Champ's won't make it settle, nothing will. (Champ's will literally dissolve thin decals into clumps of goo, it is FAR stronger than any other brand---though even it can't make a bad batch of Revellogram ones comform)
I think the Revellogram ones are simply evil - which is why I typically go aftermarket for decals. I'm just using the standard kit decals on my hustler cause, well, I was just lazy on that one, and I like the S.E.A. scheme that it came with. what can I say, it's an OOB build....

I can't wait! I think I'll buy two right off the back :-D

Thanks for the heads up fellas! Got my order off; wound up getting both the Micro-set/sol set and the Solvaset. Thought about the gunze, but I couldn't find the "Mr. Softer", only the Mr. Setter on Sprue Bros (it might've been the other way around, can't recall off the top of my head, just know they only had the one in stock). Figured I could play around with both and see how I like them. Thanks for the input! I appreciate it!
Cheers,
Justin

I see these on Hwy 70E in NM all the time - anyone have a clue why they're being transported like that?

Thanks! It's a night and day difference; and great having so much room to work with! The Hustler is coming along nicely - should have the first few coats of paint on it tomorrow, and decals NLT than tuesday, or so I hope :) . I think my chances are good - I've stuck to my timeline pretty well so far, and the hard part is over with. I'll have more pics up tomorrow in the GB thread.
Later!
