OK! So one of the several kits I'm working on, is this here Mosquito kit. Little bit of backstory on this build, it was actually started back in February, but I only got the two merlins finished, before sticking it back under the table till...yesterday....
Anyhoo, got a good bit of progress done (basically, I'm building in sections: once all the major sections are finished, I'll begin the painting/finishing process - so if there's a seam or something a little visible, fret not! It'll get taken care of prior to the first coat of primer), I have pictures for everything except the assembly of the merlins (don't know why I didn't get pics back in feb, but I didn't...).
Final note - this is going to be "gear up" as it'll be hung from the ceilling, so some detail will be omitted from the building process (which, as I was building it, seems a bit of a shame cause it has such wonderful detail! Oh well, guess I'll have to buy a couple more...
). Now for the pics!
THE KIT:
Before I go too much farther, this kit is awesome! There's such great ease of assembly, wonderful detail and recessed panel lines; Tamiya really did a good job with this kit! As for the color option, I'm doing "C": the all black nightfighter.
Next up, Merlin engines (and wings):
Now, my only gripe with the kit (thus far...) is that the gear doors have horrible fit. Now I know that the kit was designed with "gear down" in mind... but seriously, how hard is it to have properly fitting doors? the bombay doors and the access hatch both fit like a glove, why not these?? Anyhoo, I used green putty to fill the gaps, which I'll sand down prior to priming.

I'm drooling already! Nice one Raymond! Can't wait for this :D

When I was working there back in '02, a piper cub-looking plane (I can't remember it's exact designation, I just remember it looked like a cub, except the seats were side by side) literally fell out of the sky probably 50 yards from me while flying over the runway in a headwind - they must've fell at least 75 feet, maybe more, but it fell like a rock. Wish I could've gotten pics of it - it happened really fast! Both folks made it out ok, but I'm sure their tighty-whiteys were brown by the time they got safely away from the wreckage - if I remember correctly this occured on runway 36 . Sad thing is there was no way that plane was going to fly again without some major overhaul work, so they were going to have to drive home. At least they made it out alive.
A second incident happened either the same day, or the next (can't recall which off the top of my head) where a fella, also in a bonanza, forgot to lower his gear and belly-landed on one of the runways (I believe it was 27 since I was working 36 at the time).
It's crazy the amount of things that go on during the week of the airshow!

Ahhh....the old group builds have been made hidden for now to reduce the drag on the forums database. In theory all GB's are a temporary forum....ohterwise after a number of years there will be so many forums the database for the forums will be running very slowly.
What I'd like to see is all the models from a GB being entered in a gallery articxle at the end of a GB to remember and acknowledge all the people that participated in that particular GB.
Basically........if it isn't sent in as a gallery article.....then I can't guarantee how long the data can remain.
I can make a GB available for viewing if there is some stuff you'd like moved to another forums such as the in-progress forum. Shoot me a PM with any requests and I'll see what I can do.
Thanks Steve! PM inbound

wish i could go, havent been since...2002? :-\

I know - cause they were in the old "Dropping Iron GB" from last year. Although it officially ended, since there wasnt any prize of sorts, mod left it open for those of us still working on stuff to be able to finish.

Hi Justin,
Good to see you on the new forums. Other people had the same problem and it turns out....the threads are there but for some reason older threads won't show up in members profiles....so it takes some deep searching to find them.
Thanks! Thats good to know - so what about the old GB's?

Hey fellas,
Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I've been away from the forums (and internet in general) for some time now and I hopped back on tonight, the first time in a while, and went to try to update some in-progress stuff I had been working on, and I can't find it. So I figure it's one of two options: A. I'm having a bad case of OE (operater error...), or B. it's genuinely not there. I noticed the search for topics I had started only goes back to July 2010, so I'm inclined to think it's a "B. option" situation; but with the new site layout, it could also still be an "A. option". So advice from those in "the know" would be greatly appreciate! :D
TIA,
Justin
P.S. ITS AMAZING WHAT LIFE IS LIKE WITHOUT INTERNET AND EMAIL

That is unfortunate - I've had issues on eBay where
I've gotten junk kits before in that same condition while advertised as complete - guess that's the chance one takes.

Gmat - I think "coastal artillery" is the key phrase here, not battleship shells - which could quite likely account for the 15in shells.....
