  1. One other thing I've done with old decals is to cut away as much of the clear carrier away then give if a light spray with clear gloss laquer paint.   As soon as it is dry to the touch, I soak it in water and carefully apply it to the model.   The clear gloss holds the decal together long enough to transfer it to the model.   If the decal is really dried out, I'll give it a second shot of clear gloss.   If you let the clear dry too long, it gets brittle and simply cracks again.   I've used this successfully on old kit decals, Microscale/Superscale decals and even on Experts Choice.

I just liked the fly overs and the falcon demo and that one flew away. Stay safe. and I'll be on the look out.

The year you all got the pursuit Mustangs was cool.

I think the pursuit Mustang was brought down from Woodland Park PD.  We had a couple reservists that worked full time with their PD and would bring the Mustang down now and then.   Sure wasn't any room in them for other than just the driver (officer).

  3. Wow!  Very very nice Chris.   I've wondered how this kit looked.   You knocked it out of the park.

I was just looking at my Revell KC-10 kit on the shelf of doom last night, wondering what I needed to finish it off.  Motivation is what I need.   Motivation!

And I thought that I was a masochist for building B-52s from the Crown kit.

They aren't bad if you just want a basic representation of a B-52.   Just don't look into the wheel wells and don't look at them head on and see those wings that are as thick as a B-36.  And make sure to change out the engines.

They do require a lot of work to clean up.

  5. It is the Crown/Minicraft H kit with a set of resin engines I think I got from Carl Knable many years ago.   The tail gun is one that I resin cast from the Revell G kit.   The weapon pylons are modified kit pylons along with parts of the RetroKits HSAB & MER pylons.   I grabbed a set of Armory wheels to replace the kit wheels and my plan is to resin cast a set of wing tanks that come in the Revell G/H kits.   Decals will be a combination of Caracal and kit markings from the later Minicraft H.

This is one of three G's I have in progress.  The other two are the Revell kits.   One is straight out of the box with the strakelettes and the other is using the Revell H fuselage.

habu2, swap the ALCM pylons and weapons from Revell H to G and make a Secret Squirrel aircraft; then swap the pylons from G to H and add bombs or AGM-142 Have Nap missiles available from 3D printers.  Build the Crown H "as is," paint in the silver & white "Chrome Dome" scheme and use the AGM-28 Hound Dogs.  My recommendation.  K/r, Dutch

The Hound Dog missiles in the Crown kit need so much work to get the wings to look right.   I used one of the 1/72 Hound Dogs that came with the AMT G and traced the wing outline.  I then shrunk in down by 1/2 so it was in 1/144 and reshaped the Crown missile wings.   Looks so much better now.

  7. I just finished watching the sixth episode last night and all I can say is "Holy Crap!"   What those guys went through is unbelievable.   While the first two episodes I thought were a little slow, the last four and the flying scenes blew me away.   I know it's a ton of CGI but I thought it was very well done.   Looking forward to the final episodes.    I'll be grabbing this one when they box it up on Blu ray.

Me and my brother would hang (ask a butch of questions) out with the SP's at the games.

I was pulled over (65-45) that year coming down the hill from the commissary. Must have called the front gate to have me wait for the cruiser.

After my second retirement I moved to New England from Harrisburg, PA. It was a hole. Don't live where I worked. My family moved away from Colorado. All on the East Coast.

Didn't want to travel to far. Might take a train out there.

I laugh about it now but I did 10 seasons of working Falcon Football games.   Everything from traffic control to crowd control to command and control.   At first I hated working these games and the Falcons but then figured there's no way I was getting out of is so I just made the best of it and grew to love watching the Falcons.

The only time I've ever been back east was to visit my son when he was stationed at Andrews or on business trips.

78 to 86, I left for the Air Force in 1986 from Denver. My Pastor has a house in that area.

I was off of Dublin and N. Academy DR, just south of the mall. Love watching the fireworks being shot off Pikes Peak on the 4th and New Years! I was in AMMO and a C-141B Starlifter Crew Chief. You can tell what the rest of my career was after retirement. I was a medical retirement from my department in PA.

We just missed each other.   I was first stationed at the Academy in 86 as an SP.   I then left for a year in Korea and then went back to the Adademy in 92.   When I retrained into Comm/Computers, I was stationed at Peterson until I retired.  I was accused of homesteading.   Can you blame me?

What a small world.  I live up off Dublin and Union.

I think its from the F-5B boxing. I looked where my F-5's were kept and could not find them. I 'll check my spare decal stash.

I grew up in Colorado Springs. Where area do you live. I lived closer to the Academy, where my dad coached football at the AFA Prep School.

Good place to live and great scenery!

I'll have an answer about the decals this weekend.

I was stationed on the Academy for two tours.   Lived in Pine Valley Housing for many years before we bought a house in the Briargate area.   We still miss living up on the Academy.   And you are so right, the Springs is a great place to live.   Love looking out and seeing Pikes Peak every day and the gorgeous sunsets.

    When were you here?

    Kursad,

I would like to see if the polls are still open for the FJ-4 sheet. I have three candidates who would like to enter the race:

    fj-4b-141473-va-212-usn.jpg

    fj-4b-143503-va-146-usn.jpg

    fj-4b-143554-va-55-usn.jpg

I like your candidates!   Yes to all three, especially VA-212.   Of course, my vote doesn't count.  It's what Kursad decides.

    To paraphrase Darth Vader:

"Today will be a day long remembered. It has seen the death of no 1/144 quality decals for the B-52, and will soon see the end of Buffs sitting on the Shelf of Doom."

I have to laugh at this.   I heard Darth Vader's voice in my head as I read what you wrote.   Too funny.   😆
