  1. LIGHTNING vs CONCORDE The Lightning that once overtook Concorde was described as 'the best of the best' by Flt Lt Mike Hale at the roll-out ceremony for XR749 at Teesside Airport on September 28th 1995. Now an instructor with 56 Sqn at Coningsby, Mike flew 80 sorties in XR749 after the aircraft was allocated to 11 Squadron at Binbrook. He has a particular affection for the aircraft: "The Lightning was an exceptional aircraft in every respect, but XR749 was one of the best of the best. It is probably the best aircraft that I will ever have had the privilege to fly. Because of her tail code BM,
  2. Well not alot to be said really, this is a very big kit, but has a few problems so anyone building one, should really plan well ahead, i would recommend the 'how to build book, i think its esential for the first build of this (mine is now on sale, so anyone wanting one pm me, as i will let its go very very cheap) anyway ill let the piccys do the talking
  3. finished and going ready for inspection soon
  4. ive been neglecting this for a while as work keeps getting in the way, but this is where i am
  5. yes mate, i have a set of Tamiya, rally pit crew to convert, and a friend has lent me a 1/24 pilot figure im going to try to cast ok all the decals are on and sealed, so ive started with a coat of 'Dark wash'
  6. Time for a proper update ok here's where i am, and a warning for anyone building this kit in any scheme, the decal placment numbers are wrong, not just in the checkers but also the walkways and stencils, so check and double check, dont do what i did and trust in Airfix as you may have read, due to the error in numbering i got them wrong and then they disintegrated when i tried to swap them ok TC kindly researched this aircraft for me and it appears that, the checkers were a post war addition to the plane, so until some replacement arrives it a war machine, when replacments arrive they will
  7. well i sprayed the bottom, then thought id get the white tac and and roll some sausages for the camo...... but i cant find it!!!! i have a sneaking feeling a small person has borrowed it for his school project so..... free hand camo
  8. the rumors are true the front has major fit issues
  9. one minute its there then its gone!!
  10. well both gun bays are done and ready next up is the fuel tanks, now im not going to paint them in aluminium as per the instructions as i believe they would be a red primer colour the same as hurricanes, anyway if im wrong you wont see them anyway
  11. OF NOTE when building the ammunition boxes, the parts for the bullets are incorrectly numbered
  12. right work has begun on the gun bays, now my research surgests that these were linned with Leather to reduce vibrations, Airfix would have you paint them brown, which makes me think they agree. anyway to add a bit of texture is lined these with kitchen roll, painted leather, i have a lot more to do including weathering the leather and gun rack
  13. i actually feel like i have made some progress today the bottom wing is going on
  14. Well progress has been good but in-reality it doesnt look like ive done much, however ive added 40+ parts, that you will never ever see i do have concerns about the width of the engine, some of the parts are very tight and dont fit well making me think the engine is too wide, however i wont be able to tell properly until its all built and the sides of the body are added ok things get complex and tricky, this pipe (on both sides) needed to be slitted through a hole then twisted to fit on the frame, this 1 pipe alone took me 2hrs this morning to do a bit of engine detail heres where i
  15. i believe they have now changed the serial to a black one, may be worth including both
  16. well work has begun on the engine, sadly very little can be done without installing it into the frame work now heres the first flaw in the kit some sink marks that need filling
  17. and dont forget until 3 years ago the comet was still in service as the Nimrod! so they cant of got it that badly wrong
  18. thanks Joel Update 5 well the cockpit is now done, and its time to move on to the 2nd mini kit, the engine i think the tub has turned out ok, my plans for this build are changing a little as time goes on. im seriously considering leaving the cowl on as im thinking of making this, a quick re-fuel / re-arm diorama like this
  19. thanks mate ok today i received this, and well as i havent got any 1/24 rally cars, it must mean i have to turn them in to ww2 typhoon ground crew and heres the progress on the panel
