  1. Hi Rob. If my memory served me right it was installed in 5 minutes or less. Four of us would carry it over and bolted it down  and other then that the head of the shuttle, it was changed from the one used for F-4 to the ones for A-7A, Ea6B and  other's that used the nose gear for take off. The shuttle that was used for nose gear launches was permanent to the cat and the one for the F-4's  was installed over the permanent one. Gary.

  2. Hi Rob. We had a long box about 4' maybe 5' long, about a foot high,  a accessory, If you think of it like that, that when we were finished getting all the phantom's off of the deck or vise a verse we would install this box which allowed us to used a short bar type of hold back much like the one's  that are used today. Of course in my time, we still used the small breaking bars/ t bars and today they have a hold back with  a mechanism that does the same thing but is used over and over. Forgive me I seem to have forgot what they was really called the t bars that is. Now that box is installed in the deck  flush with the surface of the deck and is a more permanent installation. I do remember that it took four of us to lift it and set it in place and was then screwed down to plates of the cat. Hope this helps. Gary

  3. Hi Rob and thank you very much for the help. Sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner. The video of the Enterprise shows how we did it when it came to the F-4 and hooking it up to the cat. Also thank you for showing me the cruise books.  If you go to uss Midway CV41 WestPac Cruise Book 1975-76, Air Department 11th photo down you will see a photo of the cat crew which I was part of. The item that held me up was the length of the item in the deck that the hold back was locked in to. I thought I had got the length just right but according to the plan of the flight deck showed that I was a little on the short side. Here is some photo's of my F-4 on the cat. I also  added a photo of me from the cruise book and am in the 11 photo  second row, wearing glasses.

  4. Hello every one. Over the last couple of month's I have been looking for photos of the catapult that was used on the Midway when she had F4's on board, but so far have not found any good photo's showing this area. It seems that the cats have been removed from her as she sets in San Diego today so not much help there.   Am building a diorama using the USN Nimitz Deck with jet Blast Deflector and Catapult, using Zoukei Mura F-4S which has all of the right parts such as the extended nose gear. I have to change the cat itself because its a later cat and the stand that Zoukei makes gives the right type of cat. Any way, am looking for photos of what the cat looked like when the F-4 was hooked up and the hold back adapter in the deck that was used to insert the hold back in to. I served on her in 1975 and was a cat member hooking F-4 up to the cat's. Any help getting photo's of this area would be outstanding. Thank you in advance for your help . Gary

  5. Hi . Hope some one can help me. I have been trying to get in touch with some one at shape ways to help me get back in to my account. Does any one have any ideals. Seems they don't want you to contact them because there isn't a phone number at all. Wanted to order the pieces for my SRB jbut have forgotten my infor. Thanks and hope some one can help me.Its okay now shapeway finally fixed the problem.    Gary

Thanks Hotdog and Robhp.  I just submitted the order to Shapeways for the RCS insert so I'll post info on how it comes out.  It looks like they don't expect to get me the new parts until after Xmas.  It looks like the Updraft model seats are far more realistic than mine.  I'd be interested to see how they did that, because the seats I designed are at the limit of Shapeways' guidelines for thinness of parts with the fine detailed plastic.  The headrests that Updraft features actually mount on thin cylindrical supports; at 1:72 scale there's no way that the fine detail plastic could support the headrests.

I was toying with strategies to hide the seam between the RCS insert and the Monogram kit hull part, but couldn't figure out a really good way to do it.  Right now, the tile border comes right up to the seam.  We'll see how difficult it will be to disguise it with filler.

Hotdog, I appreciate you being willing to see if your tile detail set will snuggle up to the RCS insert I made.  If I need to make the tiles raised a little more than they are presently to match the thickness of the styrene sheet you are using for your tile detail, I should be able to do that relatively easily.  Right now, the tiles on my RCS insert rise about 0.2 mm above the surrounding flat area.

Once the RCS insert is successfully printed, I can post it to my Shapeways store.

Gary, please note that the RCS thruster innards collide with the lip of the beanie cap base you already bought.  It should be easy to trim down the interior lip so that the parts fit together.  I modified the beanie cap base part and am printing it with this new order; once it prints successfully, I can move it into my store as well for future model purchases.

Thanks Homer, will keep my eyes open to it. Gary

  7. Hi Pete. Out standing job on your payload sir. Haven't seen any updates in a while and was hoping you had more photo's of you masterpiece. Am hoping to copy what you have done and add it to my new shuttle I started to work on. Like your self I am downloading the AXM paper payload bay of this and enlarge it, that is as soon as i figure out how much to increase the size to. Thanks for the outstanding work and hope to see you work in the future. Gary

  8. Thanks Homer. Well,  clipping the wrong parts just gave me a reason to buy another set but don't tell the misses. Guess you could call it enthusiasm I just call it having a lot of fun adding good detail parts to my models, sort of like that feeling you have when the work day comes to a end and you just can't wait to get home and back to work on the project. The mask for the windows should come in handed. . The one window that I added, looked like it had good clear view to the flight deck but won't know for sure till it's all together. Are you planning on lighting up your flight deck and if so what hard ware are you plan on using. Seems a shame to put all that detail and not seeing any of it. I also want to light up the payload bay. I just order a payload  bay from real space models , he posted on his site that he will be shipping them at the end of November. Had a lot of fun adding the payload bay to my last shuttle and does help bring the bay to life as I call it.

  9. Hi Bill and thank you. Attempt is a good word for my build. If you make any more 3D parts for the shuttle let me know sir and will add them. ;o)Here is one showing some work on the windows and the clear film am using. Not much but a start.Probably going to lite her cockpit up and was wondering if any one has any ideal about were to get some hard ware for doing that. Thanks again.   Gary     space shuttle windows (2)

  10. Hi Homer. Just to let you know sir I finally got the all of the parts and they are great, just what one needs to really make the windows pop along with the tile. I sort of made a boo boo on the cap and cutr off the insert pieces but I order another one with all the parts and pieces. Have put a little paint on them but don't think the tiles come out like yours do in the picture. Have to put very fine coats on them or all that great detail will be gone. Thank you and now I have a second set coming so will practrice on this set. and keep them for the next shuttle stack I get in the future. Not to steal the great parts and pieces but thought I would show you  the 1/32 shape ways LM  that Vincent Meens designed. I really enjoyed building this. Now back to the great shuttle parts to paint and install in my shuttle. Well Homer thought I was going to upload a couple of photos but have to figure that part out sir. Be back l Gary. Not the same as seeing the photo here but maybe I figure it out before to much longer. space shuttle (12)
