  1. The real issue with the Trumpeter P-40B is not the rivets but the cockpit, it's 1/72 scale in depth and just looks wildly wrong (their 1/32 P-40B has the same basic issue).

    Whats an F?

That was very early on in the procurement process, in actuality the F-15 was designed as a no-holds-barred Air Superiority fighter, 'not a pound for Air to ground' was the mantra during the design phase. It didn't acquire more than vestigial multi-role capability until the F-15E (aside from the Israeli C's which were modified for a real strike capability by the Israelis). Even today the F-15C does not have multi-role capability.
  3. Of the two, Navy by a mile. But I mostly build RCAF & Ilmavoimat.
  4. Don't forget the new B5N1 Kate as well, new sprue covering the differences between it and the recent B5N2.

    F51d in Korea

The D-25/D-30 rebuilds from the late 40's were an interesting mix as well, with both cockpit styles but mostly bare wings. Canada got 100+ of these in 49/50 and a number of others went to the ANG, a good number of these were from storage. Quite a number of these likely ended up in Korea as well and would confuse the issue. I'd actually expect the ones coming from storage to be more likely to have the unpainted wings, since they would need a rebuild after sitting for 5 years and the rebuilds ended up somewhat rushed to the Korean War. The ones which had seen active service during this period a
  6. Should be exactly the same bits in both kits. IIRC all the bits for a J nose are in the B/N kit, the only plastic difference is the wings (there's a huge amount of extra plastic in these kits).
  7. Umm, wha? the 'New Tool' Fw200 came out in 2006, the last release of the 1991 tooling was boxed in 1995. Box styles are the same, but they've been used since 1990. The 2011 new-tool release had similar box art to the 1995 release, but the latter had been OOP for 5+ years at that point. Oh, and there's these nice little numbers written in large font on the box which tells you exactly which kit you are getting (04312 for the 1995 boxing, 04678 for the new) and of course you can also check copyright date on the box. And these are both modern tooling, the actual old-tool ancient Revell FW200 hasn
  8. To be absolutely clear, I'm much fonder of those older kits than many (although the Tamiya Lanc is a bit of a bear to build, fit is not its strong suit). I was responding to the apparent attack on the practice of releasing 70's-era toolings, and the classification of them as 'Junk'. Frankly, I haven't seen Revell rebox their old 1/72 Bf109E or P-51D recently, I know RoG's done some old Matchbox repops, but those are generally pretty good, if basic. The quality level of much of the old Revell or Airfix kits is at or above Tamiya's molds from the same era. Sure Revell & Airfix still rebox
  9. Tamiya most certainly does this as well. They still release older molds and update the boxes periodically, just like everyone else. Their A-10 for example, or the 1/48 lanc, or many of their older Japanese WW2 molds. It's trivial to check on these, from any maker. Just pay attention to the kit's number, pretty much every large maker numbers their releases, and these numbers distinguish between kits actually in the box. And many of these older kits are gems.
  10. Indeed, very nice work on fixing the outer wings, and on the pylons. Looks like you're going to have a beauty of a -5 when you're done.
  11. You're probably better off starting from one of the Greek or Polish block 52+'s, the Israeli I's have a unique spine due to their domestic avionics fit.
  12. Paintball markers & Air systems. Also paintballs themselves Seriously, just got back into that hobby and it's gotten a ton cheaper in the last 15 years, pretty much everything except air systems & hoppers are half the price (in straight dollars, not corrected for inflation) that they were 15 years ago. Air systems now run about 1/3 the price. Hoppers tripled in price, but performance quadrupled.
  13. The retractable wheels were pretty much the #1 complaint with the Zero kits. That's likely why they did away with them.
  14. The P-51A is the transitory point, it had both the locks and the new gun camera location which led to the locks being removed to make accessing the gun camera easier.
  15. Note that's true primarily for Merlin P-51's, Allison Mustangs had locks on the inner doors, they were removed most likely because the gun camera was relocated to this area with the P-51A
  16. That's actually standard Luftwaffe colours for the era. Lots of stuff in all-over RLM02 in the mid/late 30's. Maritime aviation got its own schemes later on. IIRC the Bf109T's were actually produced in the Maritime scheme, although they never saw naval service.
  17. Not sure on exact pricing, seem to recall it's just under $60. Give them a call and they'll give you exact pricing. They also ship, good shop to order through.
  18. Wheels & Wings has stock, at least the last time I went in.

    PBJ-1H

V is from the French 'voler', there was a definite French influence on US Military Aviation at the time when Naval Aviation was just beginning.

    XF-84H 'Thunderscreech'

The Screech is based off the Thunderstreak, not the Thunderjet and most of what is common between the two isn't with the Thunderjet.

  23. I would kill for an accurate Mk.1 in 1/48. Got two sets of markings for RCAF MK.1's and really want them on my shelf.
  24. No it didn't, but Hwang's kills were indeed over Bosnia during Allied Force, a pair of Yugoslavian MiG-29's had violated Bosnian airspace on an interception mission when they were shot down by Hwang
  25. IIRC the Hasegawa's got all the right smaller bits for a modern Beagle now, but retains the D model panel lines on the main fuselage since the tooling is shared with their Eagle.
