  1. Hey folks, got another question for the modeling masses! Wanting an F-22 for the case, probably modeled in flight with one or more missle door/s opened. What's the consensus on these two kits?
  2. I will not get frustrated and use models for target practice, even though it makes me feel so much better. Revenge is bittersweet.
  3. Interesting inside look at the thought process, especially about what type of surface detail to go with. It is true that when your 10' away you can see the rivets and the lapped panels. From a little farther though, it all blends and seems almost non-existent. To make it authentic you would have to incorporate these things but they must be very, very subtle. Recessed rivets are easier to work with, but replacement decals make that a non issue, even though they are a bit pricey. I'll take it either way. I won't criticize a company for going out on a limb with a very cool model. I hope they have
  4. I love B17's. I was going to get the new Revell 1:72 but I've already got 3 gawa's and then I see this. Scratch another 1:72, I'll wait on this bad boy! I'm glad to see a company paying so much attention to 1:32, there's just not a whole lot to choose from in this scale. The recessed detail is a little strong, and yes it may not be 1000% correct, but I'm not gonna gripe, it looks incredible to me. I want more kits out of these guys. If they could just put out one high quality kit a year that would be awesome! My choice for the thier next pursuit, hmmmmm, how bout the A-26, with optional noses
  5. Sorry for my ignorance and laziness but what are the parameters for this build again? Also, what exactly does OOB mean cause I thought it meant only what was in the box and maybe a little scratch built stuff. I've been wanting the new-tool Revell 1:72 kit and this looks like a good reason(as if I needed one).
  6. Hey folks, sorry to keep beating you over the head with this but I'm getting a new brush for Christmas so I've got to hurry up and decide. I've decided to go Iwata, there's just too many people that love em and parts are a little cheaper than the H&S. I really like the spray patterns on their Revolution BR and CR, but I hear the Eclipse is the way to go. The Eclipse's have a much wider range of pattern(hairline-2" on Eclipse instead of hairline-1" on Revolution). My Badger 360 has one of those really wide pattern ranges and you can really dump some paint out if you're not careful and I'd l
  7. The H&S Evolution 2n1 comes with a 2.0 and a 4.0 nozzle and needle set. A 6.0 is available. What would be the spray patterns for all of these sizes? (example: 2.0 does hairline to 1")
  8. Thanks for the replies so far. I thought maybe with the side feed I might be able to look straight down the top of the brush, but it did look a little bulky to me too, and harder to clean, so Thanks for the input CrazyDon. BTW, good looking work on the 109, those African schemes are one of my favorite. I hadn't considered the size of the body of the brush either, so thanks Gerry for the good info. I've been looking at the Iwata stuff, especially the BR. One thing that seems to be hard to locate is the actual difference between Iwata's HP and Revolution series. What am I getting for the extra d
  9. Hey guys, whats up! I've been wanting a new airbrush for awhile but haven't been able to pull the trigger on one yet  . I came across this one in my recent search and it looked like the side feed with the pistol grip trigger might help me out with my accuracy. I'm not a very good airbrushist if you know what I mean and it looked like this type might help. What do you guys think about this one?
  10. Between the military channel and the history channel I think I've seen every documentary ever made about WW2. Its why I build model airplanes. I'm going to get Il2 this week since I just got a decent computer. I don't know what it is about it, but I'm fascinated to the point of obsession. Everything about it(except for the politics) was an incredible feat of human ingenuity and perseverance. I have an old Chevy 4x4 that I'm thinking about airbrushing like an old warbird. Couldn't make it worth any less, so what the heck.
  11. I'm still experimenting with it a bit, but I really like the vertical pattern fanspray nozzles found on automotive primers like Dupli-color's Sandable primer. Seems like this stuff HAS to be sanded though. It'll fill small imperfections without covering up your details. Anyone else ever use these? Will the nozzle work on the smaller Tamiya bottles or does it need high pressure? I've only used this on one kit that I kind of screwed the pooch on anyway so I'm don't have a lot of experience with it.
  12. Man thats a heck of a setup. I'd like to do something similar but just a little bit at a time. It looks like Il-2 is the game everyone likes and it will probably play well on the setup I've got right now. What about the online game Warbirds 3? From what I've read the sim pilots on there are really good and take it quite seriously.
  13. Hey guys, don't know if there are any video game geeks on here but I thought I'd ask anyway. So which one would it be? I just bought my first decent computer and will be adding a graphics card some time soon, so some advice on that wouldn't hurt either. I got an ASUS with a 2.8 Pentium 4GB and 1Tb. Its their basic model I think. I did get their 24" HD monitor though. Let me knows whats yous thinks. I'm a Halo fanatic too.
  14. This is the one and only time that I actually hope Brett comes back. Go Cowboys, sorry Skins fan its over for ya! Does anyone around here play Fantasy football? I might do a league this year. One warning though, its for major league smack talkers only! Thick skin and personal insults are mandatory! All in good fun and humor of course.
  15. Thanks for the input Greg. I don't want to limit the suggestioons to RLM though. Any plane that someone wants to chime in about. I ran into this so many times its just not funny. I know you can mix it to what you think is best, but its so much easier when you can just open a bottle. What if you have to make a little repair and you need to get an exact match? What about those Light green Mig 15's with the dark green tiger stripes that look somewhat Luftwaffish. Actually that would probably have to be mixed but what the heck.
  16. Seems like here lately I'm having no luck finding paint that actually looks like what it says on the label. I was thinking that we could put together an informal list here by everyone just posting a particular brand and color for what they think is the best match for that plane. Acrylic or enamel. I'll start by saying Mr. Color RLM 65, 70, and 71 look pretty dang good to me. Their F-16 gray(lighter tone) does not even look close.
  17. I just got done with a 70/71 splinter scheme on a Stuka using Gunze Mr. Color and as far as I can tell the colors look good. My MM 71 is too light as well. Matter of fact, I don't know that I'll use MM supposed matches anymore. My RAF Ocean grey just doesn't look right either.
  18. I think if I turned out a model that looked exactly like that picture I'd think I screwed it up. Looks like there's a little frosting of the future under the canopy and on the wing. The weathering's overdone. That seam line on the cowling is way to wide. Whats up with the jacked up decals on the wings. I think that if someone entered an exact replica of that picture in a contest, but didn't include the picture, people would probably pick it apart pointing out all the imperfections.
  19. Which kit are you talking about?
  20. Hey thanks, I meant the one piece canopy. The main thing was the cockpit seats. I hate those really plain ejection seats. I think I'm going to start doing my planes with "gear up" for awhile so the tops of the seats and figures are kind important to me. I know sometimes the glass isn't clear enough to see anything really but sometimes you get lucky and get some nice clear pieces. I may start messing around with a little vacu-forming to try and clean that up a bit.
  21. Looks like I need the hard wing kit. I'm doing 67-288 "Arkansas Travaler II" flown by Col. Pual Douglas. I guess I'll start looking for the Promodeler or the early Has kit. Do these come with the single piece cockpit? Can the later ones be modified? How good is the cockpit detail? Thanks for the info!
  22. I have found myself in need of an F-4E in 1/48. I thought I seen something about a new tool Academy F-4 but don't remember where I saw it. Anyone got some advice on what I need? Addendum: So far, and as I expected its the Hasegawa. What are the recommended upgrades for this kit?
  23. From what I've heard the Tamiya is the way to go. I'm building the 1/48 Academy F-16C and the rear doors will fit tight with some work but the front is pretty loose. My 1/48 kit had a lot of flash and some pieces didn't quite get a good enough dose of styrene to fill them out. I don't know if the 1/32 is scaled up from the 1/48 or not. Check out my post from a few days ago about the new Academy F-16I Sufa 1/32.
