  1. Mold shadows in the plastic due to the wheel well bulkheads on the other side. Some green filler over the top to see it easier... Filler sanded away till a flat surface is achieved, then panel line details scribed back in. If I had not filled this, the aluminum finish would have made it stick out like a sore thumb. 2.2mm and 1.6mm Model Railroad lenses placed in the Taxi light ports with Ultra Glue. Solarez UV resin will go over the top, then sanded back to the shaped of the leading edge of the wing, then polished back to a clear finish.
  2. Awesome start! I'm still chewing on getting the 1/48 P-3. Tracy
  3. Try Absolute Models E-D set at Federation Models under the decal tab. Tracy
  4. The N1 fans snuggly fit into the new inner intake detail, I used UV resin to secure and lock them in this time. In inner intake surfaces have their preliminary paint scheme applied before gluing them into place. Some of this will be damaged during the gluing and filling process. But it does get the Boeing Gray and the fans established. Fan assemblies glued into place. A little green clay to help them keep their position till the cement cures. Nacelles glued, filled, and intakes repaired after blending the inner surface
  5. Better plan this time assembling the engines. The styrene tubing for the inner intake surface details are ground down to shape - as are the inner surfaces of the nacelle halves up to the engine anti-ice lips to receive the tubes for a flush fit. The back 3rd of the inner surface of the styrene tubes, as well as the Fan bullets are shot with Boeing Gray. The fans have been shot with a dark metal color, then dry brushed with medium grey to make the stator detail pop. The markings on the tubes represent the top of the tubes due to them needing to be tapered back about 1/16
  6. I received another box from them last week. It was the fuselage halves. I didn't even realize they were missing in the original box! Getting old I guess. Everything is here... Now I'll be waiting on some great decals for this kit. Tracy
  7. Dabbling a bit late at night. I'm still working a bunch of paint mules for the optimum bare-metal look. In the first build, after building the engines I noticed the N1 Bypass exhaust was just a step in the surface detail. I've decided to carve out some material to give it some relief since it is the exhaust for the bypass fan - which can be up to 85% of the engines thrust. left is done, 7 more halves to do.
  8. I'm in the process of using several Paint Mules to come up with a better painting plan. Think I may have a solution for the right look. Tracy
  9. Welp.... My flaps got here before my model did! LOL Tracy
  10. This is a wonderful build. If you don't mind some constructive criticism, you may want to check the installation of the static wicks. They should not be perpendicular to the trailing edge of the wing. They should be parallel to the longitudinal axis of the plane, or relative wind. Regards, Tracy
  11. Ordered mine and the flap set just released by LACI. Tracy
  12. UV resin polished in for the windscreens and Pax windows. I donated the clear cockpit part to Vintage Flyers and asked them to make a 1/100 scale masking set for this kit. However, I did ask for a change. I requested a full mask that includes the wind screen frame. This allows for the proper placement of the windows, as well as allowing the framing mask to be removed to paint it bare aluminum. The frame mask can then be placed back on to mask the framing for shooting the color. Several Airlines left the windscreen framing bare metal.
  13. The product is called Solarez. I used the Doming Resin - I may want to try a thinner version next time for the windshield. Be sure to buy their UV light. It's tuned to their resin for best curing.
  14. Going about the new build in a significantly new way. This copy of the kits was not shattered and did not have the pax windows glued in. The cargo door and entry doors have been cemented, filled, and feathered into the fuselage. Panel lines in the cargo door had to be filled in and re-scribed due to them being too wide and deep compared to the fuselage details. Instead of the badly engineered kit clear parts, I have opted to fill the pax windows and windscreen with clear UV resin. The right is the raw fill after removing the scotch
  15. I agree with Silver Seraph... This is a nice-looking kit! The close-up images of the sprues in the link are really nice. Interesting how they deal with the inserts over the wings where the pylons attach. My bet is they are planning for variants dealing with different pylons in the future. I'll keep an eye out for a release with a different livery though. Tracy
  16. More issues arose in one of the engines that was unfixable. That was the straw that broke the camel's back... I chucked it! I've broken out another copy of the kit and have already started on it. It's easier because the kit is intact this time. I will come away with some different approaches on doing things with this kit that I believe will come out for the better in the long run. I'll revisit this thread when I get past the priming stage. Tracy
  17. All the masking ripped off without any love to prep for a Purple Power bath.
  18. OK, this project is over. I went too far and ruined the finish. I would have to strip down to bare plastic and start over. The heart isn't willing, but at least I didn't throw it against the wall.... YET. Maybe I'll come back to it. Too nice a kit to just throw away. Learned what not to do when I do the AstroJets. Tracy
  19. Great looking project! Nice job on the color choices for the TF-30 exhaust. Most don't quite catch the tones. Tracy
  20. First color on, Alaclad II Aircraft Aluminum. Not my best but I'll live with it.
  21. I made more than enough pots of primer black while shooting the 707 project, so I used some extra to check the wing seams. I've also added the first decal. This squadron put squadron Zappers on the rear decking under the canopy. This pretty much dedicates me in a specific direction for a "What If" squadron.
  22. OK, I'm done going over and over the surface looking for and fixing flaws. The Black Basing is finally finished... The base color of Aircraft Aluminum goes on tonight! Crossing fingers.
  23. First coat of Gloss Black applied. It'll get to set while I'm out on a 4-day trip. I'll be able to handle it by then and give it a good going over before the Metal work can start. Tracy
  24. HF antenna fixed TWICE! Mr Surfacer 1500 applied in preparation for the Gloss Black base. Will check one more time for seam shadows.
