  1. I use Testors acrylic flat on my models, and it does the same thing (as I found out when the dried green paint on my latex gloves started appearing on my gray model). But if I airbrush it on, I don't have a problem with it with the paint that is already on the model. If you have to brush it on, you could try applying a coat of Future, letting that dry, and then putting the flat on there. But I think you should be spraying it on - most flats will give a foggy look if they are too thick.
  2. High-end tea sometimes comes in nylon tea bags which have a very tight square mesh (about 4 squares to the mm). The cheapest is the Lipton teas in the pyramid bags (the Caramel Truffle is particularly tasty with milk and sugar), which you can get in most stores. Other brands might offer larger areas or less fraying, but that should work for you.
  3. Those sponges have big holes, so they wouldn't work as well. What does work are makeup sponges (the ones that look like triangles).
  4. My money's going for the 1/144 Yukikaze Mave. Or two.
  5. Wow, your structural modeling ability is incredible. I'm just worried that you will either get a show-stopping Fulcrum, or it will utterly destroy you and make you take up scrapbooking as a replacement hobby. I'm rooting for your side.
  6. It might be easier to model a little Navy plane rather than these big Air Force ones, but I don't think any decals exist for the A-4E that, with a bomb, went over the edge of the USS Ticonderoga. It would look like the following: http://www.skyhawk.org/5e/g149959/html/150030.htm Number 151022, but I don't know what it's nose number would be. I don't even know what the colors would be.
  7. This is new to 1/48. They released a 1/72 a long time ago, and it's a nice kit, but this one is different parts-wise. For example, this has a real intake instead of the wall that the 1/72 kit has.
  8. Yeah, but that's something that won't be as easy to fix. Besides, this model's spine is kind of half-way between the MF and the bis, so I figure it's good enough for both.
  9. This is really an amazing build, and done in an absolutely blazing amount of time. You've done more in one group build that I did all year. I particularly like the heat-distressed coloring on the tail pipes.
  10. More things you can do: First, try Google Similar Image search: http://similar-images.googlelabs.com/ Type in "FW-190", search, find a outline drawing, click "Similar Images" under that image, and you will get lots of outline-type images to search through. Second, if you want the very best, you can buy plans from the source: http://www.albentley-drawings.com/fw190a_f_g.htm
  11. Have you seen this: http://www.airwar.ru/other/draw/fw190a.html It is a zip file, including cross sections of fuselage and wing. The problem is that it looks like they were resized down poorly, so the text is hard to read and the information might be of limited value for a model of your size.
  12. I had finished the main construction and I wanted to move on to the detail work. Then I saw Flankerman's post on the differences between the MiG-21 MF and bis. I hate you Flankerman! I was so much happier when I was innocent... So I'm fixing the location where the spine ends. First I put Tamiya two part putty there (I also used this to fill the gaps around the wing and stabilizers because otherwise the connections there would be weak). Then I sanded it down to shape. I also put in some of the detail, such as new wing fences and those little stubby things below the cockpit.
  13. It wouldn't be easy to find. It's about 15 years old.
  14. It isn't about changes in the plane, it's about changes in what the carrier crew has to do when the plane takes off or comes in to land. For example, the Growler is heavier than the Super Hornet, so it has to be handled differently. But "Growler" is very close to "Prowler" when spoken, so EA-18G's are referred to as "Grizzly" by the carrier crew. Same thing here - they are not changing the official nickname, just making a second name the carrier crew can use to quickly identify the aircraft.Since OV-1's are not used any more, how about "Mohawk", since Hawkeye was the last of the Mohican's? And

Don't try to upload images into the forum - that ability has been disabled because it is an unstoppable way of letting viruses into the server. Just link to the image you have in Photobucket.

To past it here, just put the link to the image inside of [ IMG ] tags, like this (but without spaces):[ IMG ] htp://sitewheretheimageis.net/fancypictureofairplace.jpg [ /IMG ]
  17. That was easy - it has the same size "ME" as the one I made before, so all I need to do is change the numbers. The hardest part was trying to guess at what the tail tip stencil should look like - I'm not sure I have it right.
  18. I just use Microsoft Paint. If I were smart I would use a vector drawing program, but I'm just used to doing things with bitmaps. Here's where to put the decals:
  19. How well did all your parts line up when you put it together? I worked on the same model, and I literally spent days bending and rebending and reglueing the wings and tail trying to get everything square, and those gull wings certainly don't help. I grew frustrated and it's been in that unfinished state for well over a year now, but you, with your nifty build and great idea and execution for the diorama, make me want to revisit it.
  20. I'm building an Attack MiG-21 in the MiG group build. Here is the link: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=192689
  21. I'm usually in the "buy American" camp. But the very first priority should be the needs of the military. Boeing has been years late in delivering tankers to Japan and Italy and the Wedgetail to Australia, incurring large fines in the process. Meanwhile, in the first procurement battle, Airbus took a plane off the line, decked it out for refueling, and had it in the Air Forces hands for demonstrations while Boeing could only show paper designs. They also committed to having the first plane delivered two years ahead of schedule. That just sounds like a killer argument for Northrop/Airbus.
  22. Oh, and you will need white "10" decals for the flap interiors, placed close to the fuselage. Hopefully you can get these from the existing decal sheet.
  23. The museum still exists, and it's open on weekends. I'll go next week. I made a sheet for 1/48 aircraft, if you want to do some testing now. This will create the aircraft (5009) closest to you in this image: http://www.alamedanavalairmuseum.org/units...ft/vma-133.aspx The very same aircraft is pictured on the back cover of "Navy Attack" by Francillion & Lewis. You will still need all the detail kit decals. In particular, this requires a white "Danger" decal to the aft of the "Jet Intake" V decal. I made two versions of the "VMA-133", one sharp and one fuzzy - the actual writing on aircr
