  1. During my recent transcontinental relocation:
  2. Another day and some more decal work: I see the leading edge needs some touch-up painting. That can wait for the first flat coat, though.
  3. Turns out I've had more time to work on this than I expected. Puttied/sanded/repainted the seams, touched up the Future coat and got to work on the stabilizers. Primed and starting on the first coat of paint: Upper surfaces decaled as of this evening (Microsol still wet):
  4. Got quite a bit done this weekend. Here's the fuselage assembled & primed: After some paint, wings dryfitted: Lower surfaces painted black, then wings glued on: Still some seams to touch up this week before adding the horizontal stabilizers. Hope to be able to start decaling by Sunday.
  5. Started this one last weekend, here's where I'm at right now: Based on the night camo scheme I'm going with, after test-fitting the wings to the fuselage I decided it would be easier to paint the wings as subassemblies. Camo is brushpainted freehand.
  6. In with a Tamiya 1:48 Mosquito B.IV.
  7. Another one started too early - just finished my Tamiya 1:48 Razorback today:
  8. Thanks for all the comments so far. Finished today after about 8 hours work. Painted the canopy frames freehand, finished the nose gear door and added the pitot tube & guns. In progress this AM: As completed this evening:
  9. Flat-coated, engine & instrument panel now in place:
  10. Lots of work done since the last update here: Nice bit of engineering by Tamiya to incorporate the nose weight into the model's design: Brush, thinner, paint, repeat: Ready for the Future coat: I set down the decal sheet after about 3 hours decaling (having applied all except a few stencils and the like) and walked away. Unfortunately, I set it down in my bowl of water. Current progress:
  11. Thanks for the offer, but I've already got my markings picked out for this one. I can't really say I've got enough experience under my belt to rate the decal quality, but Tamiya's decals seem to be printed in register and with plenty of detail. Thanks to all for the comments so far. Work's been interfering with my free time a lot more than I'd like in the last few weeks, so I've just been doing sporadic work on the landing gear since the last update (nose gear finished, currently working on mains). Maybe I'll be able to put up a few more shots in a couple days.
  12. Very impressed with the kit's engineering and fit so far; based on test fitting and reviewing the instructions it looks like this is going to be a real winner (nice contrast from the Dragon He-219B I quick-built while I was home with the H1N1 a couple weeks ago - I don't think I'll be using a tenth of the amount of putty on this one!) A couple more in-progress shots:
  13. Here's some I've taken on my vacations the last couple years. All shot with a Canon Powershot A80; I've wanted to buy myself a DSLR for quite a while now, but just can't justify the extra space it would take up in my bike's luggage... July 2008, Mt. Washington NH: May 2009, USS North Carolina (BB-55), Wilmington NC. Got there right at opening on a Sunday morning and had the entire ship to myself September 2009, east of Marquette MI. Finishing up my Lake Superior circle tour and decided to stop for a few photos while riding into the rising sun:
  14. Instrument panel - unfortunately, the IP decal lifted up as I was brushing on the Micro-Sol. I didn't notice it wasn't exactly in place until after it had already set. Oh well, I only notice it with a magnifying glass, or a macro shot like this one...
