  1. OMG, two of them?? Truly professional finishes!!! Tim
  2. You'd be surprised. The Horton brothers did extensive research on flying wing design. It was a very stable and manoeuvrable aircraft. The prototype was capable of 800 kph. Tim
  3. I think they screwed up on the tanks though. Research shows those panel lines are incorrect. :P
  4. Ken, that is VERY cool. I could see Richard Branson doing something like that. Tim
  5. As a design professional I use the Pantone system in my work. Pantone covers inks, fabrics, plastics......and paints, including that used on commercial airliners. In fact, it is used in any industry that require colour standardisation. I agree, however, that aircraft paint (like all other types of paint) comes in the manufacturer's standard colours. But they still have to be formulated and mixed to match a particular airline's corporate colours which are usually identified through the use of the Pantone system. Say, for example, one version of Qatar Airways' corporate logo is comprised of Pant
  6. Actually airline liveries are as part of the corporate identity system. Paint colours are matched or mixed to match the Pantone colours of that system. Pantone is not relegated to printed matter only. Tim
  7. My friend, Rick Sternbach, has a Saturn V model website and he suggests using "corrugated metal siding" or "board and batten" by Evergreen. Here's his site: Saturn V Clinic Tim
  8. I found Pantone 424 to be very close which is a 60% grey. Now to translate that into a paint colour. Tim Oops, I goofed...that's the logo grey. The top of the aircraft is lighter - perhaps 40%-50% grey.
  9. Airline liveries are based on the Pantone colour system. Find the Pantone colours used in the Qatar Airways corporate logo and find a matching paint colour. Or you can download the logo here and match the grey: Qatar Airways Logo It's a copy but it's close. Tim Edited for addition info.
  10. Although I use Badger airbrushes (a 100 and a 150) for my model work, I also have an Iwata HP-C for my artwork. I've been very pleased with its performance and definitely recommend it as I'm sure it can handle model work as well. Easy to clean and maintain. Good coverage. Tim
  11. True, true. I've never used a regulator either. I finally bought an Iwata Smart Jet a few years ago and can't calculate how much I've saved over propellant. Very reliable. Tim
  12. Yeah, I started out with the same airbrush ages ago (and actually still have it somewhere). I also used enamels and got some really decent results on a couple of tank models I had at the time. It gave me a nice scaled texture to the armour. An air compressor is a definite must as the expense of using multiple air tins build up over time and it's difficult to maintain adequate pressure. Never used the spare tyre before. I use a Badger 100 and a Badger 150 now for modeling (I also have an Iwata HP-B and HP-C but they're strictly for my artwork). Tim
  13. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! Tim
  14. The nozzle alignment cannot be adjusted on this type of airbrush. Tim
