  1. Thanks for this. Unfortunately most of the sheets are out of production  I have the Superscale 885 sheet, which features a VF-41 Tomcat but from 1994 so I don't think the markings are appropriate unfortunately. Any ideas anyone? Thanks, Arnaud
  2. I'm very tempted to join with a 1/72 F-14 but none of the kits I have includes appropriate decals. Does anyone know of any appropriate aftermarket sheet? Or if you have leftovers from a kit let me know please, I have largely enough stencils to complete the markings :) I will do my best to do your decals justice. Thanks and hopefully see you soon for my first ARC group build Arnaud
  3. I would definitely go the HLJ way: Find which Hasegawa sprue contains the props and order just these, it should not be too expensive (certainly cheaper than the whole kit). Arnaud
  4. 1 - Milliput with cling film, allows almost everything in the field of scratch-building complicated shapes 2 - Needle files: I've been modeling for some time now but I just discovered the existence of these a couple of months ago and they literally changed my (modeling) life! 3 - Extra liquid plastic cement ("Plastic weld"), makes scratch-building and clean assemblies so much easier
  5. Thanks for the encouragement guys, the support really helps in long projects Over the past week I have worked mostly on the starboard engine bay. It is the only one that requires detailing as the engine will be removed from it. The portside engine bay will have its engine fitted and therefore requires very little work. Most of the time required is... Milliput curing time! In order to ensure optimal fit a lot of Milliput was used, as you can easily see from the pictures... First a structure is made out of plasticard on the bottom fuselage, and then it is printed on the top fuselage:
  6. Nice and tempting, thanks a lot ;) Now I have to finish an Iranian F-14A, the open F-14A, an open F-14B or F-14D, an F-14A ready to launch, and THEN I can tackle this baby
  7. Great picture Steve! Do you have others of the same? It could be a tempting scratch project in 1/72
  8. I had the same while building a 1/700 Aircraft carrier, and I was going crazy at all the details I felt I needed to add. I decided to put it on hold and start aircraft models, getting a well-engineered nice model (1/72 Hasegawa Tomcat), with minimum scratch building for maximum relaxation. It worked as you can see, I am now back on slightly crazy projects but without the burnout effect :) Good luck and let us know what works for you!
  9. Hello Alek, I would stick to a conventional scale, it will be easier for you to get accessories (in particular figures) and, maybe, to sell some of your parts if you want to. Good luck with this amazing project, Arnaud
  10. I can only concur, a great trader. I obtained all the information I wanted before buying, and the parcel was received in the UK from Italy in just a week in perfect condition. Definitely recommended!
  11. Parcel received, fantastic to deal with you Luigi, as always B) That's four more Tomcats for my stash plus some extras, thanks again for these ;)
  12. Yesterday evening I took a major step: I cut the fuselage! Bottom fuselage, with the rear parts cut out and glued onto the top fuselage. Note the Milliput reinforcements, necessary to keep the general stiffness of the half fuselages. Top fuselage with the rear parts of the bottom glued on Assembled (Without glue!!) to check the general fit. I will now work on inserts to place in the engine bays, to simulate this. Sorry to share such a small step but it really keeps me going
  13. No problem ;) That's the way all Hasegawa 1/72 F-14 boxings work: A base kit provides the actual plastic and the assembly instructions of the original kit (thus including the instructions for the original markings), and the difference is made with an additional sheet of instructions and a new decal sheet. Note that the additional instructions read "Decals for the original kit are not included" unfortunately :(
  14. Hello Shawn, Any open panel picture will make my day Many thanks, Arnaud
  15. Beautiful markings and paint job, bravo! Is the blue on the nose the same as that of the markings?
  16. Where did you get these markings with this kit? I built the very same kit a few months ago and it only had two markings: VF-2 Bounty Hunters and VF-32 Swordsmen. The kit is described on Andy Mullen's so informative website. Do you include aftermarket decals in the deal?
  17. Some (slow) progress! In order to ensure the strength of the wing bladders, and because I plan to do an F-14D in the same configuration, I casted the modified parts. They are here glued onto the top part, not the bottom (Hence the misalignment with the bottom part ) and from hte other side. Note that the small hydraulics bay has been painted and glued in place. I also made the hydraulics bay in the beaver tail, out of plasticard. I'm afraid that's all for now!
  18. Here is how I proceeded: _Pour some PVA glue in a saucer and dilute it SLIGHTLY (~20-30% water, no more) _Cut a tissue roughly to size, taking 2-3 layers. _Put it in the glue LYING FLAT, leaving an edge free of glue for easy manipulation _Apply on the plastic part and once it lies properly remove excess glue _Dry with a hairdryer, carefully monitoring as it dries and contracts that it keeps the shape you want (Contraction is the tricky bit, it took me three attempts to achieve the right sagging shape but over a canopy it should be easier) _Let dry for an hour _Dip in Future and let dry
  19. Tissue and Elmers glue is the way to go, fairly easy to do, and easy to remove and re-do if you miss I did it last week for my Tomcat. The link in my signature shows the process and the result, if it helps. To obtain a good finish apply several coats of Future, let dry thouroughly and sand lightly. Otherwise you will get quite a rough texture. Good luck, Arnaud
  20. Welcome on ARC! A very nice build indeed, nice scheme Since you asked here are a couple of possible improvements for your next Tomcat: _The panel left of the ladder is one part, not two parts (There is no panel line between the large rectangfular marking and the probe). The Hasegawa kit requires careful filling/sanding to correct this, I don't know why they designed it in two parts. Photo David Aungst from his walkaround published on ARC _Your plane is on the ground and apparently without power so I guess (I am no Tomcat expert so this may be wrong in your case, if so I'm sorry) the wi
  21. I had the same problem with their 1/72 F-14A cockpit set, the box is shallower than the cockpit so it necessarily breaks the RIO's ejection seat rails... Quite a shame given the price of this stuff. But packaging is not their only issue: There is so much work involved to fit the resin parts in the kit's fuselage that I don't think I will do it too often. To conclude, great details but very poor engineering, both on the parts and on the packaging. Not very user-friendly
  22. Beautiful model, I especially love the finish. The decals are perfectly merged into the rivets, the camo is fantastic... Maybe it's just a bit too glossy? I had the impression israeli Phantoms were quite dull?
  23. Liquid Fairy works well for me: I put the model in a sink filled with cold (not to warp the plastic) water and liquid Fairy, brush it with a toothbrush where needed.
