  1. You're better off trying to get rid of the trojan. Try Malwarebytes Antimalware and Kaspersky's online scanner. Try scanning from Safe Mode as well. Your Acer didn't come with a recovery/reinstallation disc?
  2. Normally I'd recommend a Dobsonian for the best bang for the buck, but since you're interested in astrophotography it's not the best choice unless you can find/make a tracking mount.
  3. I bought some Liquitex Matte Varnish (an acrylic) because I had a 40% off coupon, only to find out it's more of a satin/semi-gloss finish. It was brushed on so the layer is probably thicker than what you'd get with an airbrush, but I really don't think a thinner coat would make a difference.
  4. I'll be dropping in at some point. I've been patiently waiting all year for it!
  5. I've recently upgraded to an 8 gallon tank. I know it's good practice to drain the thing, but do you drain it after every session? What's the longest you'd keep air in the tank? I'm mainly worried about water/rust buildup.
  6. I used to live the next exit up from them off Frankford Drive. Alas, now I live in Buffalo and those open warehouse visits are a thing of the past . . .
  7. As a color-blind modeler, I salute you. My painting is largely "color-by-number" because I can't mix paints and as long as it passes the "Does it look ok?" test with family members I'm comfortable with the results.
  8. Too lazy to upload to photobucket. This is a "N" but I think the scheme on the "A" might've been different.
  9. Can you get Liquitex products? The High Gloss Varnish might be worth looking at, but it says it can't be used over oils.
  10. Just wondering . . . Depending on my mood either a Dr. Pepper or mixed drink like a rum and coke, although in the summer I'm more likely to grab a beer.
  11. That would be me. I can't finish a project to save my life. I probably have a dozen half-built kits. But my New Year's Resolution is to finish two by December 31, 2011 so we'll see what happens.
  12. I've used a hair dryer to speed up the painting process but I've never tried it on decals. You have to be really careful though - I melted a thin 1/72 piece even with the hair dryer set to low heat and I was waving it back and forth. One pass was fine, the next pass shriveled it like a raisin. After that happened I stuck with the "cool" setting and only on thicker pieces.
  13. Lots of people having been praising this stuff. I know it's been discontinued but I can get it from a nearby car shop for about $27 for a 21 oz. tube. I currently use the 3M Red but it's pretty "hot" even in thin layers. Is the Blue any better? It would take me years to use up 21 oz., assuming it didn't dry up first. It's hard for me to justify dropping almost thirty bucks just for putty. Would it be worth getting the White, which is the replacement? Opinions?
  14. Link Edit: Google is your friend. In the search bar, I typed: site:arcforums.com fabric painting
  15. I agree that model paints are the way to go, but I've successfully sprayed cheap craft paints. The good/bad thing about model paints is that most are made to match specs (like FS colors) which is great as long as you don't need to paint the custom colors needed for something like a sci-fi kit. Good luck finding "Anakin's Pod Racer Blue #1." Craft paint can be sprayed, but you have to experiment with a concoction to thin it - mine includes future, airbrush retarder and windex. After thinning it you have to filter it with a superfine mesh and it must be applied over primer. So it can be don
  16. Micro-Mark's punch set (can't afford a Waldron set yet). A Revell 1/32 P-38J from my father-in-law, which is not a normal build for me so will be going to the bottom of the stash for now. And a $50 Amazon gift card with too many cool things in mind to spend it on. We got a Wii for the kids; they've been playing nonstop.
  17. Nothing but clouds in upstate NY. However, I just found out that the cave shown in the t.v. series "LOST" is only 30 minutes from my house, which is pretty cool.
  18. I just checked Linden Hill and they aren't listed yet. Does anyone know what the usual lag time is between release and resellers stocking them over here in the States?
  19. From what I understand they decided to use the Mi-28 as their attack helicopter, so the Ka-50 won't be developed. They are producing some Ka-52s as command-and-control. Hopefully our Russian friends here on ARC can shed some light on the most recent news.
  20. This is awesome news! I should be able to get some by the time I'm ready to decal my 1/72 Italeri Ka-52.
  21. I agree with 11bee. The other thing you have to remember is that mainstream music (a.k.a., the synthesized, overcompressed, overproduced garbage on the radio and in music videos) is now a tiny portion of what's out there now that bands can publish their own music straight to the 'net. Back then you had vinyl, 8-tracks, tape, etc. and that's it. Now you can find sub-sub-sub-genres of MP3s as long as you're willing to look around a little bit.
  22. Great tips. I think any company that started producing a variety of helicopter pilots in a variety of scales would find a nice niche to fill.
