here's my starting point from a stripped ebay bike

just a little touch I think will make a big difference ,,,, paint the tyre valves and caps black noticing it on my own bike models and something i'll be doing in future

head glued on and seam has first layer of filler , rear of hair has been carved to fit head correctly , and ear ring taken from the block and gap filed to fit ear lobe !

kit was under a tenner on ebay and looked a bargain for a first larger size bust kit

calling this done !! a quite presentable job can be done with minimal items only additions were a piece of sandpaper and a piece of masking tape for the noseband ( not unrealistic items for a raw begginer to have around the house ) so good value at £6.99

last nights progress it is suprising how much can be done with the little you get in the box !! at first it would be thaught there are not a lot of colours but planned colour mixing can take care of that , even a semmi passable flesh can be mixed from the yellow and red and gunmetal from silver and the black also for an older airfix offering fit isn't too bad either

trying something difrent i baught this kit with this intention in mind i am supposing i am at the very beggining again and starting out with a starter set so appart from 1x piece of sandpaper and 1x waterbowl the only things i'm allowed are what come in the set i am allowing myself nothing else appart from tissues obviously

here is why your method will not be a good basic idea !! i use the paint sampling method you use for oil paintings where i have to get correct colours in specific areas !! look at this picture of the human eye !! now suppose you were tasked with just painting the white of the eye !! white is white right ?? well no !! look closely and do your colour tests if you wish !! but the white depends on many factors such as colours from areas close by reflecting colour onto the white from those areas there are oranges , purples , blues , greys , pinks , greens etc etc so working of a photo w

to some degree checking colours on photo's can be an average aid to reaserch but only used alongside given knowns !! this method is a practical impossibility to give a correct paint colour as there are too many variables what type of light was it exposed in ??? inside ?? outside ?? mid day ?? evening all can give difrent subtle colour casts what film stock was originaly used ??? ideas on correct colour varied wildly when colour film was still in its infancy !! what developing techniques were used and what colour filtration was used whilst printing the photo ?? how many people has it go

at the end of the day airfix have to stick at what they are , and thier targeted market more modern releases are becoming very good for the modeller ( i've just baught the new tool spitfire Va ....) whilst this is good for us advanced modellers airfix's market is not merely modellers airfix has to be many things to many market areas ( a job it does pretty well ) not only do they have to cater for the modeller but also the mother with the whining child that she wants an hours peace from a lot of their kits were from a time where modelling was modelling and if you wanted a difrent version y
