  2. I did both, but poor sales led them to be discontinued. None had TX ANG however.
  3. Which scheme? Yellow/Blue or Overall Sliver? These are very simple schemes to replicate. Yellow/Blue: 4 position National Insignia with side numbers in yellow and wing top number in black. Rudder has the Tail Stripes. 45 degree block numbers can be found in most Model RR shops. Overall Sliver: 4 position Insignia with black 45 degree block numbers on fuselage sides, wing top and under wing. I have a few pictures of PT-13D that I will use for a Trainer sheet in the future. 90% of them are as bland as white rice. It's why you see more of the USN aircraft, at least those had fuselage stripes
  4. I'll dig it up, scan it, and PM it to you to protect the guilty from the public embarrassment. They are well known modelers. I would have paid good money to have had a video of the incident. But having the article that was printed as a response is good enough.
  5. What I have been able to turn up on this question is absolutely nothing. Pictures of aircraft that flew during the raid are extremely rare and mostly in private hands (pay me $100 and I'll show you type stuff). The NMUSAF P-36 was painted based on the little info they had. They are not even sure of the Serial Number. I do believe the plane was scrapped after the battle due to the extensive damage the airframe sustained. What I can tell you is that of the photos I have, and have scene of NM P-36s some have the Bronze Green (not black, not OD) anti-glare panel, and some didn't. If I sort them by

  7. Judging from the photograph you linked to, it's hard to say as it looks very weather beaten. A similar photo I have dated to 1936 of the XP-936 (and looks to be the exact airframe down to the uncovered spats)and it looks to be Blue 23 with Yellow 4 wings. The "US ARMY" is present under the wings.
  8. Looking for the BuNo. for VP-44 PBY-5As from the Midway Battle. Anybody have any leads?
  9. Just primer the kit before using. I would suggest painting the hotter paint first (Grabber orange) then the cooler acrylic. Testors Paint has been formulated to be kind to other paint, espically their own, but I try not to temp fate.
  10. Polly Scale offered the color for years. You may want to check around the various on-line retailers and see if they have any left. I was able to buy it direct from Testors up to last year, until I scored a bunch from a local wholesale dealer. Tamiya Camel Yellow, TS-34 is a pretty close match. Testors Grabber Orange (28105) is almost dead on for Yellow 4. Yes, the USAAC is more Orange than Yellow. Tamiya Camel Yellow is the best match for the USN Color, as is FS13538 Chrome Yellow. But can be used in a pinch without too much fuss or complaining.
  11. Couple of more 1/144 decal suppliers: http://www.starfighter-decals.com/1144-aircraft-de.html http://lepidoptera.datahosting.com.br/fcm/escala/1-144 Others to look up on Hannants of the UK web site: Astra, 3-D, Aztec, Blue Rider, Begemont, Mark 1, Fineline, Kits World, Warbird, and XtraDecal.
  12. The NoVa IPMS show is one of the best local events you can attend. I recommend attending if you can. I'll be there vending. Haven't missed on yet,so far.....
  13. AFAIK P-26s were not stationed at Mitchell Field in the 30's unless it was a hack. 1st PG was at Selfridge (MI) (94th, 27th, & 17PS), 20PG was at Barksdale (LA) (55th, 77th and 79th PS) and the 17PG was at March (CA) (34, 95, & 73rd PS). Later some P-26s were in Hawaii (19PG), Panama, and Philipines(17PS) as newer aircraft came into service. I have decals for a P-82 stationed at Mitchell, but that's post war. I think Mitchell was a Bomber base in the 30s, so B-10s or A-8,12 or 17s might be a more logical choice for being based there.
  14. It could go either way, as the regulations for USN Interiors when these planes were built was for a coated natural metal interior. However, photos from this time (1940-41) show Bronze Green and "Interior" green coming into use by various manufactures to help with the wear and tear in the interior. This is where a photograph of the specific plane comes in handy. If you don't have one, stick with the Coated Natural Metal interior color if in "Yellow Wings" scheme, and the Green with any war paint scheme (Lt. Gray or Blue/Lt Gray).
