  1. Hi habu2, thanks for dropping by : ) - I'm using Solidworks. Rebuilt that part at the top of the aft section. I was wondering why the aft section wasn't aligning right. When I rechecked the blueprints I found out I had built this part a 3mm too tall. Now it's all good. Sorry for the huge photos
  2. Thanks, John! I hear you - there's really nothing like getting your hands dirty on good ol' real modeling. I won't be abandoning the 1/10 entirely. Just wanted to play around with CAD a bit for now and see where I'd come to a halt again. Completing and printing a good CAD scale model has been an elusive goal for me. I wanted to test my capabilities this year as part of my new year's resolution (none of which I fulfill : ( - there's always a point where I face a blank wall and I'm expecting that to happen - hopefully not too soon! Playing around with the assembly before I get down to
  3. It's so bare in there. Plenty of room for interior paneling - maybe later. It'll look better once the side humps are in place. I'm not looking forward to the dreaded FIMU, though. If I survive that I'll be happy.
  4. Hi, here are some updates. I set the wall thickness to 0.4mm to save on printing. I'm sure it's sturdy enough at 1/24 or even 1/18.
  5. Even at an unfinished stage your work is already worth displaying, John. A real treat watching this!
  6. Hi Pete, thanks! : ) I'm using Vincent's blueprints of his 1/24 LM. So this model is basically in 1/24 but can be scaled up or down for 3D printing. Somehow, I wanna go back to 1/18 - nice and big but not as big as that 1/10 monster. I'll probably print out the forward section first and we'll see what she looks like in person.
  7. I just read this - so sorry to hear about this terrible news, Jennings. I admire your spirit. If it were me I'd be down and out for a very long time. You seem to be coping well - keep it up. And may you have a blessed year ahead.
  8. Thanks for your kind words, Bubble : ) Looking forward to seeing your Eugene resin figure!
  9. Hi John, that is one sweet LLRV kit! : ) Do post buildup shots. We don't see much of those around!
  10. I guess these are the last updates for a while - got some chores to do. I haven't really put any alignment pins on the rear section yet but wanted to see how it looks attached so I just slid it onto the back temporarily:
  11. Sorry for updating again but I was able to turn it into a nice solid - ready for hollowing out : ) It had so many facets I was so sure I'd run into issues closing up the surfaces but somehow luck smiled at me!
  12. Hey John, thanks! I really appreciate your dropping by! It's been a while, ain't it? : ) No finisher here either - most all of my projects stay stuck at an early stage. Everytime I run into some hitch I tend to rest all too long : ) Do post your LM photos again - whatever stage it's in, I'm sure it would be something to encourage everyone - you've surprised us with some amazing stuff! Sometimes we think it's not worth posting, or it has lost its novelty that people won't be interested. But remember it's other people's WIPs that we learn building methods from and not their finished mo
  13. Excellent find! The band-aid made me happy already but this one's very convincing - definitely looks the part! A+++++++++++
  14. Merry Christmas, everyone! I'll try to do the pressure panel next. In the meantime I made some progress on the midsection. It's putting up quite a fight : )
  15. Hey, Pete, yes I figured modeling in 3D offers some good benefits to scratchbuilding. I'm able to picture the end model better by spinning it around and seeing what it looks like before getting down and scratching one from styrene. I'm able to "flatten" the individual parts for cutting the styrene pieces. And lately I've been hankering for a smaller model but when I think about how much time it takes to scratchbuild a new one I become so frustrated even before I start. So maybe this is the key - something you can print at any scale you like. Skinning it would be a must, though - we know 3
  16. Hot dang!!!!! Manfred you are incredible!!! Waaait a minute - You have a shrinking ray gun stashed somewhere, do you?
  17. That's good to hear, Pete! And good to hear your sister's doing ok, considering the circumstances. A good number of homes are slowly getting their power back but I heard others will have to wait until after Christmas : ( Made a bit of progress on the RCS thruster quads:
  18. Hey, Pete - how are things down there? Do you at least have power and heat? It's getting really ugly over on this side of the forest. We're lucky in our area but thousands are in the dark and the damage is terrible.
  19. Thanks, Hotdog. Engines are nice even displayed on their own, aren't they : ) I'll try to model one for displaying separately. In the meantime - l've hollowed out this thing - I'm thinking about printing it in 1/32 or 1/18 when I've saved up a bit. I'll be spaced out again today from lack of sleep. I'm like the walking dead when I don't get enough rest. But I always ask myself - would I rather have accomplished something at night and be like a zombie in the day, or get enough sleep and wake up with nothing? Invariably, it's the latter for me! : )
  20. Man you weren't kidding when you said *after dinner^. Excellent job with the toothbrushes, by the way.
  21. Hi Pete! Merry Christmas! Yes - just last week I slipped on the front steps and landed on my arm. It's still sore as heck and wouldn't heal up as quickly as I was hoping it would. So be careful out there. Hey Hotdog, thanks for dropping by - the feeling sucks doesn't it - I'm forcing myself to at least accomplish even a little bit during the holidays. I really shouldn't set any target schedule or I'll just keep frustrating myself. About the descent engine I didn't have the necessary skill to model it completely before but I'll give it another try.
  22. Thanks guys. Sorry for the long hiatus. I actually had plans of abandoning the project. Last night when I decided to pick it up again, it felt like I've forgotten how to cut styrene : )
