Nobody mentioned the Monogram AH-1? Several times reboxed by Revell. I built it (the Red Bull Cobra) and have to say its good! Of course no shake and bake, but a modeller can make it! You should not be afraid of raised rivets and panel lines, but hey, look at a real helo: it is raised in 1:1, too!

1:48 Phantom FGR 2 92Sqn Special anniversary scheme
tobiK replied to R Spreckley's topic in The Display Case
DANG! awesome, great, stunning, drop dead phantomesque! Hmm...Better look for a Revell 1/48 box of a FGR.2, it contains Hasegawa sprues AND also a blue special scheme. Not sure if that one or the other (as there have been 2 Phantoms in blue). Cheap times are gone but for 20-25 € still availabe second hand. Anyway, have I told you that I love that blue scheme? Still on my unwritten list for modelling projects.- 15 replies

Here the link to the KASL seat w pilot: http://originalundmodell.de/reviews2015_3/kasl_k48021.htm Well, I did 2 F-5E kits already. One with Aires pit and the other with kit pit, QB seat and scratch build details (copper wire, strip styrene, ...) Sure the Aires set improves the already good details of the kit and the fit is - in that case- really good. BUT Aires refuses to give you 100%, means, they left some details. I completed it again with scratch work. Menawhile I know: where Aires stopped, KASL went on and offers us the best detailed cockpit for the AFV F-5 on the market!

MASSIVE shout out to Merit International LLC (aka: AFV)

Good news! I have a F-5E, too. I goofed the windscreen and it cracked, so that kit is still missing a windscreen. 😞 -
Relax! Many sink marks will be not vilible later! My suggestion: add a AM seat (quickboost is nice and cheap) or from KASL Hobby there is a seat WITH a pilot sitting in. The AFV bang seat is realy basic and underdetailed! The IP is one of the best casted IP I found in a kit and a breeze to paint! And please take note later when it come to the left and right engine venting doors: they are only OPEN when the engine is RUNNING - means someone is sitting in the pit. Otherwise take the closed version. Look at the brasilian F-5E just now in ARC on display: it looks wrong there.

Yes, right, Magic Sculp is a two-part putty. You can also use it to create things: bags, FODs, etc. It is more than a putty.
-
Hey Kurt, sorry to tell you that you use the wrong putty for that. For the "wipe-off" method I prefer a 2k putty (like Magic Sculp). It does not affect the plastic because no solvent in, does not shrink and you can smooth it with WATER! Also behaves real good when you need to do some rescribing across the 2K putty area.

CC-129 Target Tow (DC-3). Revell GB.

Colorful! And seldom to see, too. What do you take for the long wire antenna? -
It has its delicate areas: front and back fuselage connection and the nose, esp. the upper part: the engravings do not meet in the middle. The main landing gear is a bit fiddly to glue with all the very small stuff (the doors are fixed to the oleos). Alternatively the old Monogram kit has much more problem zones concerning fit and details, so...no real alternative. And the AFV Club kit is the best in 1/48 on the market! I like it!

Proposal: TOPGUN Group Build for the 50th Anniversary

Hajo, a badass Tomcat! Did you get decals for the cat? -
The tiny booger and all other not so nice areas you showed us can be fixed with CA easily. Do IT! Hard CA can be engraved just like plastic. That's why I like it to fill gaps etc.
-
It is a matter of the washing, I think. The kit is awesome and the build is really nice! The fit of the Aires pit is good, unlike the gun bay (afaik I remember).

What about the landing gear: can it be added later (e.g. after decaling and weathering) or does it have to be glued on when building the wing? Just curious because a C-47 is in my mind to build... -

Nice scheme! Yaa, so bad Canmilair is oob! They covered some nice exotic canadian aircrafts! I see you paint the interior green: did you follow Monogram instruction oder made your own mix of int. green? I read the later revell instructionof the C-47 boxing and they want a mix of twi revell colors for it. 😞 -
For your panel lines, just take the AFV Club kit as a master! 😉

Dremel is one of the finest tools! Not only for modelling (cooking, beauty, etc.). But seams you "melt" the plastic more than cutting, that disc I use for cutting steel needles, also hardened steel. For your purpose Dremel has a sawing disc to offer, too. You my 0,02€ here... BTW. the blue colors on the wings are already awesome! One of my fave cats in that "bad" scheme.

Nice to see you back on the bench!

You could put the pink silikon part on top of the Phantom...will make it really "outstanding" ! 😉

CF-104 Starfighter, 1/32..old school Revell.
tobiK replied to phantom's topic in Revell Monogram Group build
I built the F-104G german air force in 1979 about. I remember that kit. That time it was realy modern, no PE and resin, still far behind the modelling horizon! (not to mention engraving panel lines!!) -
Interesting time frame!

Seams the same Problem like I had with the Cobra Helo: the nice decals for the IP do not hit the moulded instruments.

Hi Kurt! Good choice! It will give you a nice Streak, I remember the HAF GB, where I built a greek F-84F. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/289916-revellmono-f-84f/ Maybe there is something that can be useful for you. The kit has really good details and the fit is not bad. The modern HB kit falls behind concerning details in cockpit and wheel wells, also has a cockpit size for giant pilots (the bang seat is huge!). Only surface details are nice. But anyway, the Mono Streak is good. Will you go for USAF markings or do something exotic? Like Belgium, Greec

Had a look in my stash: I think the Wingman models kit F-21A Kfir will fit that GB very well! Have to be careful to build an adversary and NO aggressor! ;-) Yaaa...it's so gooood to be baaaad! -
What a crazy office! ;-)
