  1. We had the CO's radar go down once when he was engines turning and loaded with missiles on the flight deck. Key part of that sentence was "CO's". It was a simple fix, they shut down the stbd engine so we could open the radome (port engine still running), extend the radar package and change out the receiver crystals. They were little ceramic cased diodes that isolated the receive circuit from the transmit circuit. We closed up the radar and radome, he started the starboard engine an off he went on his sortie.   2. Common practice is white glue, something like Eileen's Tacky Glue. It's thick enough that it will hold the piece after a short time and it remains a little flexible after it dries so small knocks won't break off the antenna. You can smooth a small fillet with a damp Q-tip after the glue dries.
  3. The B-36 just had its forward upper turrets out, one trained forward, one aft, all guns at about 45 degrees elevation. On the second page, the Skyknight with the LT tailcode; VMF(N)-531. Gray Ghosts! Yay!

  5. especially if the jet in question has been in the hands of corrosion control. I did that gig for a month on the boat, we used the "MK 1 Mod 0 eyball and masking tape" font. "that looks about right..."
  6. You don't usually need to hold it the whole time, but you do need to wait for several minutes. Sometimes you can hold it for a minute or so and then it will stay in place by itself but you still need to wait longer for it to harden before going to the next section. Tape works too. It really depends on how much manipulation the parts need for good alignment.

  8. You could possibly "external tab" using CA and then debonding the tabs after the cement dries (if you use non CA to actually glue the parts together). The debonder may mar the plastic somewhat but if you use small tabs and are careful during gluing and debonding I expect it will work. This is a guess, personally I use the align and glue by sections for troublesome fit.
  9. Most putties will be attacked by liquid cement so it is possible to glue stretched sprue to putty. The glue join might not be as clean as sprue to plastic as the putty is porous compared to plastic, but it will stick.
  10. I noticed her left leg also, her food doesn't seem to be in alignment with her knee, looks kind of painful... Her over-all proportions are nice, not big-headed or otherwise awkward looking. Nice job!
  11. I'm going to do the Belgian F-16 with the plan form of the Spitfire on the back. No aftermarket, maybe just add some seatbelts and brake lines. The kit looks like it will stand up on its own merit.

  13. I'm in with this one. I'm not going to start it until the summer house stuff is over with though. I'm anticipating a more-or-less OOB build. Nothing more than adding belts and brake lines I think.
  14. The Avrolidated Libercaster has a specially designed tail to offset the torque characteristics of the engines. Speaking of Frankenplanes, when I was in the Hawai'i ANG there was an airframe in the hanger for a while. It was a jet that suffered a spar crack and they replaced the entire wing. While it was in work it was a SEA camo fuselage with a Hill gray wing. I SOOOOO wish I'd thought to take a picture of that!
  15. I never heard, "spark chaser" much. There were tin benders, knuckle draggers and bubble chasers but the avionics shops were usually called "tweaks" or "tweets". I was radar, the real "tweaks", we called the electricians "one wires" and the com/nav guys "two wires" because that's all the circuit complexity they were capable of troubleshooting... B)
  16. At least half of my stash is pre 1980. I'm thinking it might be time to bust out the Monogram F7F and Cobra Company night fighter set. Either that or the Matchbox F3D Skynight with Skywaves brass.
  17. Did I mention the set improves the Matchbox kit VASTLY? It's worth the $58.
  18. Cobra Company has a resin upgrade set for the Privateer that includes props and a whole lot of other stuff that will improve the Matchbox kit vastly.
  19. In WWI a fighter went from concept to prototype to combat and on to obsolete in about 9 months. Why'd the F-15 take so long to develop, then?
  20. Wrong. A vocal minority. There's LOTS of VTANG F-35 stickers on cars around here and most of them are not on the cars of VTANG members. If a few people post 1000 times each that they hate the F-35, that doesn't make them a majority.
  21. I'd say that if they're strictly indoor cats, that's all the insurance they need. They're not exposed to communicable diseases or parasites and they're safe from predators and motor vehicles. A vet visit once in a while is probably the only other thing they need. I'm assuming you've had them tested for FeLV?
  22. I think by the time the AIM-9L was in service, all the A-7s were E models.
  23. The VTANG announced that they're scheduled to get theirs in the fall of 2019. Unless the crybabies win the lawsuit!
