  1. Nice kit. Yellow Wings said they'd be coming out with decals I believe.
  2. Hi all. I'm building the Zevezda 767 and want to do it in the Star Alliance livery for United Airlines. The engine nacelles are painted the dark blue color United uses. Anyone have a close match? I know Xtracolor does a United Blue but it seems everyone is out of stock on it. What's a good alternative? Also, while we're at it, I got the Austrian Airlines decals for the Embraer 170 with those light blue nacelles. Any thought on a match for the light blue? Thanks in advance for any help. Steve.
  3. Hi all. I've been using acrylic paints for many years (plus a few lacquer metalizer paints) and done OK with them. Just started using some MM enamels due to easy availability and color selection, plus I want to try some of the White Ensign paints and Xtracolor enamels. I've been thinning with some Mr Color leveling thinner plus a little Testors enamel airbrush thinner. The paint sprays very well but doesn't dry very well. It remains a little tacky for days afterwards, at least in spots. I presume it's the lacquer thinner doing this, is it OK to use the Mr Color thinner? I know others have and
  4. Planning on doing an SAS A340 (the Revell 1/144 kit). Just ordered the SAS grey and red colors from the Xtracolor line but wondered what was a good match for the blue? Nothing specific was available so I presume it's an easier match? Thanks, Steve.
  5. Hi everyone, question about decaling over a natural metal finish. I'm looking to build the 1/200 scale Hasegawa 737-800 in the American Airlines retro scheme. I plan on using Alclad natural metal finishes over gloss black for this highly polished metal finish. I wonder how decals will look over this? My concern is that when I did a highly polished metal finish on a Mercury Atlas launch vehicle I could clearly still see the decal film even after clear coating with Alclad gloss. I was afraid I'd lose the nice metal finish if I put down a coat of Future first. The finish seemed mirror smooth so I
  6. FYI I've seen and photographed this aircraft as well and the tail wheel well is salmon colored. There is absolutely no evidence of an over spray with a different exterior color. It was salmon pink. As you can see from the pictures the fire wall was salmon as well but unfortunately the engine cowling was no where to be seen to see what the interior color of it was. I was kind of hoping to figure that out. Cockpit was dark dull green I believe.
  7. Are they "useable"? or are they the old style super thick and glossy decals Monogram was known for? I have several A-6E kits in the stash but would buy another if the decals were good as I, too, have been waiting a long time for those hi-viz VA-35 markings.
  8. Hi all. Just wondering what the final verdict is on Rhino products? I see several items available on Ebay and know there's been several threads on this company a few months ago. But no one has yet written a review of the products in actual use. How do they look in real life and how are they to use/fit? I'm interested in their F-8 Crusader intake for the 1/32 trumpeter kit in particular but many of their sets look interesting. Thanks, Steve.
  9. I'd really like something in North Afica/Med. sand colors. I have both the K and N kits and really need something other than the kit decals please. Steve.
  10. Hi all. I'd like to participate in this one too. I've entered several group builds over the years but never actually completed something in time so hopefully this time will be different. I've got all three versions of the Tamiya 1/48 P-47 in the stash as well as the 1/32 Hasegawa D model kit so I'll have to see what strikes me. Right now I'm trying to complete the Tamiya Bf 109E3 kit for a club BofB contest and was looking at also doing either the Tamiya Spitfire Mk1 or Hasegawa Hurricane too. The Hurricane looks like more work but I just really like that airplane for some reason.

    B-24D decals

I just got the 1/72 scale Hasegawa B-24D kit and am interested in doing a sand over gray machine. The classic one is "Strawberry *****" which currently resides in the USAF museum. Mike Grant used to do them but he's sold out. Any other options? I notice that Minicraft does the B-24D with these markings, are the decals usable? I thought I might buy one just to steal the decal sheet if it's any good. Any other decals available in that scheme and scale? I know the kit comes marked that way but I don't really care for those markings. Thanks, Steve.
  12. Actual show dates are August 3-7, mark it down!
  13. The suspense is over, WE GOT IT!!! Omaha in 2011 it is. Not a big surprise as we were the only bid but until they announce it you just never know. Dates are August 3-6 so it should work out well for everyone. The venue is the brand new LaVista convention center just off Interstate 80 in southwest Omaha. The convention hotels are a brand new Embassy Suites and Courtyard by Marriott both of which are attached. A huge Cabella's outdoor outfitter store is across the parking lot for those interested in another type of shopping. An open cockpit BBQ evening event is planned for the Strategic Air and
  14. Did I see that you were vending at the IPMS/USA show next week? If so hopefully you're bringing along a good supply of these and I'll pick one up then.
