  1. I agree MOST figures just ruin the illusion of scale for me. I go from seeing an airplane to a model real quick. As for the brush painting I like to use liner style brushes. You can get them in 10/0 size but they have fairly long bristles, about 1cm on finer brushes. My favorite, a #2 has 1.7cm bristles. The long bristles really dampen the little shakes and movements of your hand resulting on some surprisingly straight smooth painting. They also nestle into an edge or feature beautifully and track along it. These style brushes hold a nice amount of paint as well so I find if I moisten the brus
  2. Hi Chuck. We met briefly in Nanton a few months ago. I'm also the guy who's bacon you saved by giving me a few extra F-16 engine bits some years ago. I think I've seen most of your models in person and I really enjoyed looking at them. You're a fantastic modeler and your attention to detail and the patience to go that deep are some of your biggest assets. I think you should build not for winning contests but for the the love of the craft. Scribe a nice sharp thin light seam on your leading edge and who cares what the judges think. Put a note on your entry card to explain or maybe the judge wil
  3. I built that model a few years ago and I added weight everywhere I could. Even with weight in the engines you'll still need a good amount in the nose. I think if you didn't get weight in the engines you'd never get 60 grams of anything in the nose, it's not a big space.
  4. Another nod, order with confidence. I got a flawed sheet and got a replacement with no trouble at all. First rate.
  5. I think all the white areas of the fuselage are pearlescent and the wings are white only. I'd definitely do a test piece and then compare it to the decals for colour match. I considered it for a 787 I did in BA livery. It looked great in the bottle but way too light when it dried.
  6. I had intended to work on aircraft when I studied gas turbines but I ended up in the wonderful world of industrial engines. My company does GE and RR engines, and I'm on the RB211 line. I love going to the test cell to run 'em. Similar to your ground run but of course the industrial versions don't have a nacelle or any cowlings so it's basically just the core of the engine. Don't know if your familiar with a DLE combustion system? Totally different from a SAC engine (we do both) but they are incredibly loud. I'll go in to the test bed at idle to perform a leak check. Sometimes you have to go u
  7. Cool job. When I went to school to study gas turbines I couldn't wait to spend some time around planes. Then I ended up on industrial RB211s so the only planes I see are the ones that fly overhead. Who knew. Is that YVR?
  8. How can you tell if there's a pilot in the room??Don't worry.... he'll tell you!!! LOL I work with a bunch of ex RAF mechanics, that;s one of their jokes. For some reason this post reminded me of it! Edit: On topic the model is looking AWESOME
  9. Wow that's very kind of you! I really appreciate it but I have something in hand that I'm happy with. :)
  10. Ok I ended up with Humbrol French Blue and Midnight Blue. After brushing out a couple samples and looking at them once dry I can see I'll be using the French Blue and adding some Midnight Blue. I thought it was going to be the other way around! And I think I'm going with blue nacelles. I've found pictures of both one the net but I like the blue better. :)
  11. Thanks guys I will write these suggestions down and take them, and the decals, with me to the store! My next indecision is wether the nacelles should be white or blue. The F-Decal instructions show blue, BAs website under 'future fleet' shows them white. I want to go white so my RR badges stand out better!!
  12. Well I considered that but I thought since his instructions said "Match blue to decals" I assumed from that he wouldn't have a definitive answer. I guess I could rephrase the question to: Would MM Blue Angel blue work for a British Airways livery?
  13. Hi guys, Building the Zvezda 787 currently. I ordered the F-decal BA set. I just couldn't get into doing the Boeing house colours. Anyway the instructions just say to match the blue for the underside to the decals. well I went to the hobby store today (without bringing the decals) and I just couldn't pick a blue. I know Xtracolor 322 is supposed to be a match right out of the bottle but none of the stores in my city stock Xtracolor. I was thinking of going with MM Blue Angels. Just wondering if anybody knew a Testors/MM/Tamiya/humbrol paint that would be close enough? I was going to also try
  14. That's looking great! Question though did you finish your Barak?? I did one earlier this year and I was looking at your build thread for the Barak and it seemed to fizzle out but it was months ago that I last looked at it.
