  1. Obviously you didn't, and maybe I missed it but I don't recall any naval battles with the Russians during the Cold War. Communism as in the Soviet communist state is a single party government with ownership of everything. No private property, so private business, no democratic elections, etc. The textbook definition is the people own everything, there isn't even a state but that definition is of a theory not any large scale reality. Either way I don't think you find CNN advocating for either definition.
  2. I have no problem with people who don't share my views, I don't like people who throw out words like communist without understanding what that means. If you choose to only accept news you agree with that's your choice, but it's a good idea to hear many viewpoints and make an informed decision.
  3. Your reference to CNN as the communist news network says enough. That you think the opinions of those on the other side of the aisle are communist is telling. The people who believe what it is on Fox don't know that it isn't accurate. They believe it, they aren't smart enough to look at multiple sources and have an informed opinion so they believe what Hannity tells them to believe. You are right, I don't think too highly of the people who only get their news from Fox.
  4. It's killed more people in the US in the last month than car accidents do in a year, but continue to downplay it.
  5. I do like NPR. There is certainly bias in cable news going for ratings over truth. Print media is a little better, the WSJ and Washington Post are still good sources
  6. Based on daily averages the number one cause for the last two weeks is COVID. It's not just NYC. Michigan, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Orleans, and other parts of the country have been hit hard. The number of viewers has nothing to do with accuracy or quality, even though they are interesting to watch at times. Most of the time they are so far from accurate it's almost funny, but I don't mind hearing opinions I don't agree with. They have a large audience of people who only want to hear opinions they agree with, so anything that doesn't match their worldview
  7. I don't understand their logic at all, I don't think anyone does. I really hope they don't end up killing a lot of people, and that somehow it works but what they are doing doesn't make sense. They still have hundreds of new cases diagnosed a day, even though they fall well behind the average for testing so it's safe to assume they have thousands more not being diagnosed.
  8. This isn't a one or the other issue. We have to take very strict precautions for the virus, while doing what we can to keep the economy going. You don't have to downplay the severity of the virus which is what is happening with media like Fox News to acknowledge the economic impacts or the risks that come with keeping people isolated.
  9. Based on just testing the US is just over 5%, but it is certainly a lot lower which is why I said 1%, even at 0.5% we would be looking at 1,000,000 dead to get to 60% exposed with immunity.
  10. Look at the Smithfield plant South Dakota for what can happen quickly in a small town. The stay at home orders will have to be lifted and things will open, but it has to be done wisely. Georgia is a prime example of how not to do it, they are reopening movie theaters, restaurants, tattoo parlors, barbers, nail salons, etc all at one. I will be shocked if they don't have a huge resurgence of cases.
  11. Again you won't find many credible scientists saying that at all. Herd immunity from a vaccine is possible, but with the mortality rate of this virus a natural herd immunity comes with an unacceptable cost. Those young people come in contact with older people, plus the number of high risk people in the US is greater than the low risk population. The top comorbidity with COVID is obesity, and that's 40% of the adults in the US. Plus we have 50 million over 65. There aren't enough low risk healthy people in the US to even get to the minimum of 60% to get to herd immunity. I a
  12. I agree, the problem is the millions of people who won't listen to anything but Fox. Sadly the Fox viewers tend to be older and the ones most likely to die from COVID, and they are being told it is nothing.
  13. You won't find many scientists that are saying we should expose everyone and build herd immunity. Herd immunity can come from a vaccine, but to have herd immunity you need at least 60% up to 90% of the population immune, but with COVID killing an estimated 1% to get to the minimum for herd immunity about 2 million people in the US die. That also isn't certain to work since people have recovered and then tested positive again. We don't know how long immunity lasts, some natural immunity doesn't last.
  14. Have you seen the people protesting? Most aren't wearing masks, they are huddled together in large groups because they have been told by certain parts of the media that this is nothing more than the flu and it's all a big hoax. The same media is telling them that the number of deaths is inflated, that X drug is a cure, that it will go away when it gets warmer, and a lot more that is just false. Now we have states like Georgia and South Carolina about to reopen restaurants, movies, etc, but what they do has ramifications for all of us. I live on the I-95 corridor less than 100 miles fro
  15. I think Canada and the UK will be generally smarter about this than the US. There are a lot of Americans who don't trust anything, including science and many who won't use common sense because they think that wearing a mask is somehow infringing on their rights. We also have prominent media that is doing everything they can to downplay the threat, with many Americans still thinking of this as no more than the normal flu.
  16. My point is that 95% isn't good. There isn't much I would do if there was a one in twenty chance of dying. If it was one in two hundred or one in a thousand that still wouldn't be worth it to go to a movie or get on a cruise ship. To claim this isn't bad because it only kills one in twenty is downplaying the threat. I am not saying we should keep everything closed, but dismissing it by saying it has a 95% survival rate is foolish
  17. If someone told me that by going to a movie or a concert there is one in twenty chance I would die because of it I wouldn't go. If a medical procedure only had a 95% survival rate it would have to be critical for me to do it. 95% isn't good, it is certainly something to think twice about.
  18. I was with 4ID on the 07-09 deployment, 1CD was before us. I felt bad for the 1CD guys they were extended, at least we knew going in that it was 15 months.
  19. I've done quite a few things, I was in the offensive in Sadr City in 08. I've personally requested about 100 airstrikes in OIR. I was up and down Tampa and Irish in Baghdad, and was lucky enough to never get blown up. I didn't do anything special, I did what a lot of other people did.
  20. My first tour I was on a MiTT, embedded with the Iraqi Army, living and working with them everyday. We were mostly around Taji, and it was when the EFP threat was high and then we had the offensive into Sadr City. Overall as MND-B we lost 113 in combat that year. The second was mostly uneventful. It was during OND so Iraq had calmed down and we were mostly transitioning bases to the ISF. The third one was as the first BCT back into Iraq for OIR one was eventful. I was with an Iraqi unit that had battlespace from Baghdad to Fallujah and we were their link to CAS and we stayed very busy.
  21. So you were a REMF. That's a big difference between what you did and what I do. I do jump on the first thing going, and can jump out too if needed.
  22. You were on shore duty, so you sat those out? Were you there for DS or did you miss that one too? I'm really amused by the REMF comment now.
  23. So that Chief rank is nothing, meaning you are a civilian. The Army did go in, did you? Were you there for OEF, OIF, OND, OIR, or OFS. Thanks for loading bombs, I requested a lot of them in OIR. Mostly they were coming off USAF aircraft, but there were some F-18s occasionally.
  24. It's a medical opinion, if they had symptoms of COVID they most likely died from COVID. You have no military authority, try using that Chief rank to give an order sometime. As far as DS, the Army was on the ground long before shots were fired, they were also in Iraq the 2nd time and the 3rd time. I was in Iraq for OIF, OND, and OIR. I also deployed this year when the balloon went up on New Years Eve and I was on a plane few days later. You were on a ship hundreds of miles away from any actual combat. Your pilots were in combat, you weren't. You like the term R
  25. She didn't say that at all, but I'm sure you heard what you want to hear. What she said was cases assumed to be COVID related would be counted even without a positive test. With tests being hard to get doctors don't want to waste them on people who are already dead. Being far away from combat is the very definition of REMF. There is a forward echelon, and that's typically not Sailors. What you did had an element of danger, no more than many others though. We can all tell stories about things we've seen, like driving with night vision or rail loading armored vehicles. Than
