  1. Dr Brix did not say that, what she said was probable cases will be counted. Meaning people who die with symptoms of COVID will be counted, without a confirmed test. That makes sense, and that is a lot. For example the number of people dying at home in NYC more than quadrupled, they were already dead so not being tested. It was bad enough the National Guard took over recovery of bodies because the city services were overwhelmed. My wife and kids are dependents, and civilians just like you are a civilian now. You have no rank, no authority and are not serving. That makes you
  2. The theory about the air wing makes sense, the first cases didn't appear until 24 March, 15 days after the port call and there are no cases on the Bunker Hill which made the same port call in Da Nang. There were two British citizens staying at the same hotel as 30 members of the TRs crew, and those two later tested positive. However none of the 30 sailors who stayed at the same hotel ended up positive. With the economy I think we need to be smart about it, businesses should open when possible but some aren't coming back for a long time. Movies, theme parks, cruises, concerts
  3. It does take time, but it shouldn't. That's one of the biggest problems, is the lack of testing. We don't know who has it because we can't get tested unless we are already symptomatic. So without lock downs it just spreads, because despite promises from the government there are not tests available. It's even more embarrassing that Modly did serve, and the only silver lining is that he didn't stay long. His rant towards the crew of TR makes me wonder how he even made it through Annapolis. I've listened to his speech a few times, and as someone who has commanded I get furio
  4. The numbers aren't as bad because we have done something, but we aren't even close to this being over. It's growing still and it's starting to hit the most vulnerable countries like India, Indonesia, Brazil, and others that have widespread poverty with people living on top of each other. It's going to devastate those areas quickly. We do have to reopen, but carefully. We won't be going back to sit down restaurants, movie theaters, taking cruises, going to Disneyworld or things like that for a long time.
  5. A couple corrections, they weren't all tested initially. They didn't finish testing until a day or two ago. Modly is a civilian. That he served previously doesn't mean he is somehow not a civilian now. Unfortunately he didn't learn anything from his service and the only thing he has demonstrated is he is a horrible human with no honor or integrity.
  6. Yeah, and with that I don't see how anyone can say Captain Crozier did anything wrong. We can all see who it went to, and now know that Modly lied about it. If Crozier isn't reinstated it will be a travesty.
  7. There were over 1800 who died yesterday. I hope things are improving, but we are still seeing over 5% of diagnosed cases die and so far those treatments haven't slowed the deaths at all. There are certainly a lot more people with it that don't require care, but we don't have enough tests for widespread testing so we have no idea who is a carrier. Here is the email with who it went to. Note that he states the ship could go into combat if needed.
  8. I think being concerned about the leak over the welfare of the crew is the wrong answer. Disembarking the crew and putting them in quarantine isn't something that could have been hidden. I am not saying leaking it was alright, but there is no way to hide a carrier in port or that the crew was off the ship. Plus the public release of the letter forced the Navy to act. It is interesting that a letter from the TR's commander in the press likely saved lives, much like Teddy Roosevelt's leaked letter to his commander in 1898 saved lives. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nationa
  9. The number of deaths is about 40K, but what you refuse to understand is that is with the precautions and restrictions in place. There is no doubt that without it the number would be far higher, and possibly in the millions. We've lost 40,000 people and will lose many more even with social distancing and restrictions. We are learning a lot about this virus, like many people can be carriers and never show symptoms. That's not a good thing, since it means the only way to know is a test and we don't have tests to give to find out who is really carrying it and who is not. We'
  10. My wife and my kids have access to all that too, they are civilians just like you. What is your opinion of Captain Crozier now that we all know his letter was sent to a few people in the chain of command. Are you still going to use the ridiculous OPSEC argument to say the Captain was wrong and the former acting SECNAV was right? When it comes to making decisions Colin Powell said it best "The commander in the field is always right and the rear echelon is wrong, unless proved otherwise." Now we know with certainty the commander was right,
  11. I didn't know him, not that I need to know him for his death to be tragic.. I do know the Captain went to his chain of command for help, and the weasel former acting SECNAV fired him for it. The acting SECNAV lied about the Captain, and then attacked his character in front of the ships crew. From everything we know the Captain did everything right, and the acting SECNAV did not. You've made claims about violating OPSEC which didn't happen, the Captain went to the chain of command. He did what a good commander would do, and he was relieved for it.
  12. In my 25 years I don't think I've ever heard somebody say that is acceptable to take an unnecessary risk that will likely lead to the loss of life when we aren't in combat. We aren't at war in the Pacific and no sailor needed to die. Everything you mentioned has risk, but we mitigate the risk and never intentionally put someone in the position where there is a high risk of dying. I am a paratrooper, that's a risky job, but we never put ourselves or our troops at even greater risk by cutting precautions or not using common sense.
  13. Nothing indicates he violated any OPSEC or release classified information. The ship was already in port in Guam when he wrote the letter. The BGC was on the ship, how could he not know what was going on? The Captains letter was sent to 10 people, not the 20 or 30 the former acting SECNAV claimed. It was sent to the Strike Group Commander , Rear Adm. Stuart Baker, the US Pacific Fleet Commander, Adm. John Aquilino, and the commander of Pacific Naval air forces, Vice Adm. DeWolfe Miller. The other 7 included are all Captains, 5 of them live on the Roosevelt, the
  14. I hope to get back to this in a couple months, I have to travel for work for a few months but plan to finish this as soon as possible
  15. Some progress. One thing I really wanted to try to replicate is the distinctive pattern seen on many P-38s. This seems to have been a tape and sealant applied over certain panel joints during shipping and with the removal of the tape dark lines were left around the panels. I applied tape to the lines and sprayed MRP exhaust soot over it. This is similar to Tamiya Smoke, it is very transparent and the effect I got is close to what I wanted but needs some work in a few spots. The props were painted black and then the yellow tips sprayed on. In hindsight I wish I had done some hairspray s
  16. I just saw the part on the sprue, it never crossed my mind there would be two of them for different versions. It's fixed now.
  17. Thanks, I used a technique I saw in a video by Plasmo on YouTube. I loaded a paintbrush up with the wash I was using for the splatter, wiped off much of it but still left it wet and used my airbrush to blow on the bristles splattering the paint.
  18. Discovered a self imposed problem. The part I glued on for the front of the cockpit was not the right part. There are two in the kit, one must be for the later models. So the front canopy wouldn't fit and I have to take the old part off. Fortunately I was lucky and the part popped off with a little pressure, which was surprising since it was all glued together with TET and I used some melted sprue to fill some small gaps. Added the new part, I'll have to clean up the seam and repaint.
  19. Thanks, I sanded it all back, but on the second attempt I sprayed a reddish brown underneath the olive drab to give the plane some tonal variation. This unrestored P-38 that is at the Udvar-Hazy center is my inspiration without being as heavy as this, since this plane has had 75+ years to weather.
  20. Some fun with masking this evening, I cut out the masks on a Cricut and applied them. The mistake I did make was spraying the white first, I should have done it in reverse and painted the blue, masked over that and then painted the star. That would have prevented the white showing at the edges, and I knew that but took the risk anyway. Oh well, this can be fixed fairly easily since I cut out 4 times more masks than I needed.
  21. I've forgotten to take pictures, but the seams are fixed and the olive drab is painted. I want a well worn Lightning as was common in the Pacific so I did some hairspray chipping. My first attempt went a little overboard so I sanded it back and tried again with some better results. First attempt Round 2 Here is where it's at now
  22. I can do that, I'll try to do it today.
  23. I'm starting this thread to commit myself into the Fortress showdown after I finish the Lightnings. The old but still very accurate Monogram (now Revell) B-17G vs the new kid on the block Hong Kong Models B-17G. I've got a ton of aftermarket for the Revell kit,, but I probably won't use much since it is largely for the interior, and I may use Quickboost engines for the HKM kit.
  24. Bumping this post since the GB is underway and going well. If you haven't already come check it out and join in.
  25. I got mine from Spruebrothers today, and did a quick comparison with the Monogram kit. The HK is about 1/4 inch longer, but the shapes in my view look fine. The other things that have been mentioned like top turret location look the same as the Monogram. Fuselage halves, Monogram on top Tail taped together, the size and profile is identical between the two tails. The wings are slightly different around the wingtip and ailerons, but the rest matches HK and Monogram wing taped together, the Monogram i
