  1. Great video. I do know that some people will "flip" the video when uploading to Youtube when they are trying to bypass the auto-copyright detection. For example, you can find many full-length feature films on Youtube, but they are flipped horizontally in an attempt to avoid being automatically removed due to copyright laws. That said, I don't think the original video of this was copyrighted, but who knows.

  3. Ugh. I'm not a smart man. I forgot to add the dang pictures. Here ya go.
  4. Gents, If you're like me, you have been waiting for Trumpeter to grace us with a 1/350 scale version of the "Kitty" and the "Connie". Well, it seems the Kitty Hawk is already available and Connie will be available in Fall 2016. What I wanted to show you is an absolutely phenomenal photo-etch detail set for these two ships that I came across on Ebay. They are pricey ($200-$250 US) but I was blown away at what you get for that price. This is, without question, the most comprehensive detail set I have come across for any model - bar none. I have my Connie model on pre-order and will give a full review and build-blog on that when I get it. But, I just wanted to share a mini-review (pics) of the detail set for those of you who are looking to build one of these ships. Feel free to ask any questions about the set.
  5. Hi, all. I'm trying to find out the name of a documentary that was done in the the early 80s covering the Mercury astronauts. It had a few shots of my grandfather in it (he worked at NASA on the late 50s). Anyway, my family had a copy of it years ago, but it has since been lost. All I can tell you is that it's main theme was George Winston's "Moon" - heard here: I know it's not much to go on but I figured I'd throw it out there and see if any of you know the documentary. Thanks.
  6. Here's a video from 1994 about TOPGUN. Lots of shots of student and adversary aircraft starting around the 27min mark.
  7. I sincerely doubt anyone will. The overall build trumps any minor discrepancies like that. Again, I didn't mean to be "that guy", I just wanted to share the info with you. Absolutely stunning work. :)
  8. This build is beyond awesome. And I don't mean to be a stick in the mud or a pain in the rear, but that carrier is actually CV-67 repackaged with CV-63 numbers. There are a few give-aways, but the main one is that CV-63 had the forward end of the landing area perpendicular to the alignment lines with a "notch" cut out on the port side. CV-67 had an angled forward end to the landing area - like the Nimitz class. In any case, like I said, this is an amazing build.
  9. Here are a few more vids:
  10. Hey, guys. I know a lot of you are Naval Aviation fans like me, so I just wanted to show you what some of the new add-ons to Microsoft Flight Sim are like. You can "fly" some of the Blue Angel routines or "fly" some pretty accurate carrier ops. BTW, I'm in no way affiliated with Microsoft, and these add-ons are completely free. Hope you enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_WhaEfwwI0
  11. I salute you, buddy! Thank you for your service. Sincerely. Seems like you had some good times. I envy you.
  12. AH! The hold back FITTING! That makes so much sense!. Thanks, Foxbat. That explains why it is no longer seen.
  13. It's interesting you say that because I watched the vid a few more times. It looks like the launch bar doesn't quite line up with the "jig" and is riding on top of it. The green shirt then grabs the hold back and seems to use it to guide the launch bar down into the track. Once the launch bar does fall into the track, the green shirt releases the holdback. We could be way off, but i'm glad with the theory!
  14. Thanks, Wardog. I'm actually talking about the long metal plates that seem to mounted to the deck. About 10 feet or so long and 4-6 inches high.
  15. Gents, here's a vid of flight deck ops on the Big E back in the day.My question is, at 2:27, right after the Tomcat squats, you see an elongated "thing" sitting behind the actual shuttle. I've seen this often in old clips, but this "thing" is now gone from current decks. What is it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xFpHCL2Ep4
  16. I believe the Zulus are now the model being used by the USMC? Anyone?
  17. I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend.... They spoke to LCDR Mark Dunleavy (a slot pilot) about why they don't do it. Dunleavy's response was that the top brass was very concerned about a tire blowout on landing causing a major catastrophe. BTW, I'd love to see a video of them taxiing out with the wings folded. They should definitely re-incorporate that!
  18. Thanks. Me too. All I ever heard was, "Those were the A-4's that did that. Not the Hornets." 18 years I heard that!!!
  19. For years I've told others who are Blues enthusiasts that they used to do a Diamond landing. Not a soul ever believed me. Well, after going hunting, I finally found a video to prove it. The whole show is a lot different than today's, but there it is at 17:55. I feel so vindicated!
  20. I've never seen a Delta landing , but, as God is my witness, I saw the Diamond land as a unit at Miramar in 1998. No one ever believes me when I tell them that, but it happened. My girlfriend (now wife) was also there to see it. Both of our jaws dropped.
  21. Fellas, I was talking to an old buddy of mine about TopGun back in the day when it was still at Miramar. He told me when he went there he took one of his squadron's line aircraft because the school itself didn't have specific jets for the students to fly. Was this standard practice or a fluke occurrence? All he could tell me was his experience - and that was in 1989. TIA
  22. As to the Aardvarks jet in the picture, in my limited knowledge, VF-114 was never aboard Independence (CV-62) as listed in the top right of the camera footage.
  23. Fellas, What is the Tomcat carrying in the Phoenix station at 3:51 - 4:02? It's new to me! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-vSinNEmso
  24. I couldn't find it either. I actually found a VHS copy on eBay.
