1. While going through my stash, I found the Albatros Decals 1/48 The Dark Mirages (ALC/48010). I couldn't locate the instructions, to show where everything goes. All the images online are so small, you can't make out anything. Can somebody send me a hi-res scan of the instructions?

Scans can be sent to my email address of lengesath@cox.net.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey All,

I've had a Small Shop 'Photo Etch Cut Off Set - Standard' for some time now,  and found it to be a great tool.  I've seen that the Small Shop has closed their business.  I was wondering if anyone knows what type of material the black cutting surface is.  It's pretty durable, but does get some minimal grooves in the surface when subject to heavy handed cutting, but the surface can be restored tp smooth with some sanding.  Just wondering what material that cutting surface is, as it can't be anything too exotic.  I'd like to eventually replace the cutting board with the same or similar material.

Their website says it is/was black plexiglass.

Larry, did you ever find any good info on the JM-1P?  I was looking last night myself and came across some of your searches on same subject.

Sorry Gary, I was unable to find any needed info on the JM-1P, other than some VERY SHORT (1 line) mentions of that variant. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING useful, so that "project" has gone into hibernation. :bandhead2::crying:

Sorry about sending you on a snipe hunt.  I should have taken time to check the details further.  😕

No worries, since my  Lippisch P-13A is pretty much a "What-If" Luft 46 kit, any missile would "tart up" the model.

    Even a Sidewinder!

I can save my HS298 missiles for some other What-If model.

My Luftwaffe Recon conversions will be "Alone, Unarmed & Unafraid". (Except for some cannons)

There are four of those missile shapes included in the DML/Dragon (5511) 1/48th scale Horten Ho 229B Nachtjager

I just double checked my DML 1/48 Ho229B Nachtjäger, and it doesn't have any Ruhrstahl X-4 missiles in it. Instead, it has 4 completely different HS298 missiles.

I will get the Ruhrstahl X-4 missiles out of one of my Ta-183 Huckebein kits.

  6. Thanks for all the good inputs. I already had the AMtech 1/48 Ta-183 "Huckebein" in my stash, so I will be able to use those Ruhrstahl X-4 missiles, since I am converting the Huckebein to a Photo-Recce version that was proposed.

My DML Ho229B Nachtjäger will also be converted to a proposed recce variant with 2 MK108s with 90 rpg in the right wing root and 2 Rb50/18 cameras replacing the left wing's guns.

I didn't even think of looking at those 2 kits in my stash, before posting my request. :worship:

  7. I don't know if this is the right subforum for this, but I am trying to find out if any 1/48 Luftwaffe fighter kit comes with Ruhrstahl X-4 missiles. I need 2 of them, to install on my Revell AG 1/48 Lippisch P-13A aircraft model.

    RSM-62 Strat Recon Snark?  😕

Yes, the Northrop RSM-62 (Reconnaissance Strategic Missile) Snark was designed for "high altitude reconnaissance over large areas of enemy territory".

The info I have collected over the years is as follows:

    1. A copy of the Standard Missile Characteristics for the Northrop RSM-62 SNARK. It's a 5 page "fact sheet" , similar to the Standard Aircraft Characteristics done for "normal" US military aircraft many years ago.

I can't remember where I downloaded the PDF from. Also, the representations of the camera equipment is much different that the later cutaway drawing I have, which shows 6 large format cameras in the nose. There are 3 short focal length lens cameras in the nose just behind the nose Radar. Farther back, there is another TriMetrogon setup with 3 cameras with much longer lenses. This setup differs from the camera setup in the Standard Missile Characteristics pub. I have found, based on my USAF career as a Photo Sensor Technician, that the aircraft camera drawings in the SACs are usually preliminary "ideas", and not what the final sensor fitting turned out to be.

I do not use any photo hosting site, so I can't post the original images online, but I can send you copies of the pages if you are interested. Just PM me with your email address.

  9. Since both my Revell 1/81 SNARK and my Lindberg 1/48 SNARK will be built as RSM-62 Strategic Reconnaissance variants, I doubt anybody will EVER do aftermarket decals for them. I will just try to cobble something together from my "spare decals" stash.

It looks pretty good. AFV Club got the mounting base for the quad guns wrong. It should not be a round, pedestal base. The quad mounts were on a square base with wheels and legs and were rolled up into the truck beds on ramps, which were also stored in the bed.

See here for a tutorial on how to build it accurately.
