I made the seat belts out of thin strips of paper: I realize the instrument panels are wrong for a 2000d, but I did not correct them:

Finally wrestled this thing into submission. * Paint: Tamiya and Gunze acrylics, Alclad II on the exhaust and AS-30L * Airbrush: Iwata Revolution BR with 0.3mm tip * Camouflage: Freehand * Wash: ProModellers Weathering Wash (black) * Flat Coat: Microscale Flat The aircraft is built completely OOB. The ProModellers wash didn't stay in the panel lines very well, probably because I didn't add some drops of dish soap into the bottle.

I don't usually use primer under the gloss black coat. It's not necessary. Yes, you can use gloss black under normal Aluminium. You can also use Alclad grey primer with microfiller, which you do not need to sand.

I sprayed Tamiya smoke clear through my HP-B+ just fine. I thinned the paint with Tamiya thinner, so your air pressure and/or your thinning ratio is not optimal.

Start with a double action airbrush and you won't regret it in the long run. Otherwise, you will have to relearn if you decide to switch to double action in the future.
-
Great Models in the U.S. carries Humbrol acrylics and enamels.
-
Have you tried The Detailer? I've heard great things about it, and it goes down into the panel lines better. I have some bottles, but I have not tried them yet.
-
You can also use any window cleaner or dishwashing detergent mixed with water to clean your brushes and airbrush.

Looks like aluminum.

Just distilled water or even tap water.

The problem with Future is that it darkens the paint job significantly. The final semi-gloss or flat coat doesn't lighten the finish back to scale. Most hobby gloss clear coats do not have the same issue.

I get much better and consistent results with hobby gloss varnishes:
