Impressive, you bet. Scale, 1/16th to 1/8th. At that size, I believe there are a lot here who could do just as well. This is, of course, just my opinion and worth what it took to write it. Regardless of scale, craftsmanship is craftsmanship. It is, however, easier as the scale gets larger.

Any help with Allison -425/-427 engine pics?
HawkeyeP3P replied to HawkeyeP3P's topic in Research Corner
The T56-A-425/427 is what I am looking for, yes. -
If I were forward-thinking, I would have taken shots of them while I was working on them, but back then they were just a P.O.S bird I hated getting dirty fixing! What I am looking for is any good QEC/panels off shots of the E2-C or C2-A engine bays. -425 or -427 ok, as I have plenty of Kinetic plastic to mess with. Any help would be great, as doing the usual Google search comes up pretty empty reference-wise.

When I was in and at VAW-120, the + on the nose meant a GRPII with the -427 (FADEC) engine. I worked on both -425 (TD Amp/TD Valve....mechanical fuel trim system) and -427 (FADEC...computer controlled fuel trim). Along with the -425 TD system, it had T I T (Turbine Inlet Temperature) system with 3 more Thermocouples than the later -427 FADEC system with ITT (Inter Turbine Temperature). The C2-As all had -425s when I left service, and it is now my understanding that with the NP2000/SLEP program that they now have the -427s.

I know this is an older thread, but I just wanted to add as I picked mine up Friday. A HUGE thanks goes out (from me) to whomever designed the decal sheet, as it has VRC-30, VRC-30 Det5, and VAW-120 (my old squadron. Thank you for adding in the VAW-120 decals! Also, the option to build it as either a 4-blade or a SLEP bird is a huge boon (to me anyway) as all the C2s I worked on were 4-blade birds. All around, a great addition to the Hawkeye offerings/offspring (even if it did inherit the Hawkeyes funky main mounts!).

If you have a Facebook account, you can go to the VAW-120 Facebook page. There are a few current 'Hawks there that might be able to help you out with your various questions. Best to talk to the Corrosion Control guys, as it is their job to paint the airframes.

Don't you mean VAW-120? VAW-110 hasn't been in existence for quite a while (even before my time at VAW-120 she had been de-commed).
-
I was in VAW-120 from 1998-2001 and remember these planes with less than fondness (at the time anyway). I loved riding them to and from the boat.........There isn't anything quite like a Carrier Brake in one of these hummers! So, as to Squadron markings...how about another round for VAW-120 (as you did for the E2-C)?
-
Yup, there goes some more of my paychecks! Get some Greyhawk decals and go to town!

I see one thing you have done corectly that others who have built this kit have not done...............your main mounts are facing inboard (like they should be versus like I see everyone elses pointing outboard on this scale build). Very nice so far; I have this kit and am unimpressed with it overall. Your build is changing my mind about the possibilities of this small-scaler!
-
Dang, I didn't know you had two threads going on this build, one in props (the one I responded in) and this one. I thought I lost my mind when I didn't find my response. Anyway, like my post in the other thread; this is looking better in 1:144th than they do in 1:1. I was a mech on the E-2C platform before the 8 blade props were installed and am therefore not too keen on them. yours looks killer though, and at such a small scale!
-
In 1:144th scale........WOW! I was a mech on these birds, and I have to say that your mini looks better than the real units!
