  1. Hi, the figure kits are from the manufacturer "Games Workshop", other things like the diorama base or the whip are scratch-built.
  2. The Ultracast figure was a really fun project and, that´s for sure, it won´t be my last pilot figure made by Ultracast! I´m looking forward to build and paint the other excellent figures of WW2 fighter pilots from Ultracast, Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, Francis Gabreski, the RAF pilot from the Battle of Britain and the Japanese Navy pilot. Stay tuned!
  3. Hello folks, I made some new pictures of my finished Ultracast Luftwaffe pilot, after the work on his base was done. But first I want to show you the propaganda poster, which I used for inspiration: .... Just a joke of course, I just played a little with a picture of my figure and a photo editing software. Here are the other pictures:
  4. Yes, it is a poster of an artwork. I looked for an artwork, which shows a fire and then ordered a poster of it in the right size from a poster service. When the daylight shines on the back of it, there is a very nice effect, almost like real fire.
  5. Hello folks, just finished my first Lord of the Rings diorama, the epic battle between Gandalf the Grey and the evil Balrog of Morgoth. Scale is about 1/64th. Hope you´ll have fun with the pictures:
  6. Did a little mistake....the edge of the Luftwaffe epaulettes should be yellow for a member of the "Fliegertruppe", not red....but all you need is a good brush and a steady hand...and the problem is solved.
  7. Hello, I just finished the miniature of the German Luftwaffe Pilot, made by Ultracast, 1/32. It is made from resin, the cast, level of detail and the fit of the parts are just stunning! It was really fun to paint this miniature. I used acrylic paints (Vallejo and Revell Aqua) for the base colors and artist´s oil colours for the light and shadow and especially for the leather flying suit. The pilot is holding a cigar (made from copper wire) in his right hand...well, this guy is appropriate for the late war period, so he´s probably exposed to greater perils than the aftermaths of smoking...
  8. I painted further shades of grey on the base and finally, I finished the inner areas of the Balrog´s wings. Painting all the small "lava slits", it can drive you nuts! But when it´s finished, it looks quite impressing. The head was painted with artist´s oil paints (shades of grey) and acrylic paints (shiny yellow, clear red for mouth, tongue and nostrils). I painted on the Gandalf miniature further details as the sword or the bar, so it will be finished soon. There´s still some work to be done, but the goal is near...stay tuned!
  9. Time for base coating. I also added the two miniatures temporarily, to see how it looks already. Then I started the further painting of the base (black base coat, different shades of grey with acrylics and artist´s oil paints) and painted light and shadow on Gandalf´s cape and some details of the miniature.
  10. Time to have a look, what´s going on with Gandalf. Painting the faces of figures is quite challenging for me, especially when they are as small as the Gandalf miniature. I painted the base colors with acrylics, light and shadow were added with artist´s oil colors. For comparison, Mr. Costner is a 54 mm miniature (about 1/32th scale, perhaps quite taller). For the base I wanted a rock face, I decided to build the entire base scratch. I used "Modur", a kind of hard foam. I cut out the structure with different carving tools and knives. To give the ground more structure, I apllied a
  11. After this was dry, I started to paint the "cracked skin", using Vallejo flat black. This is a quite daunting task which takes a lot of time (if you want a good result), so the following pictures are "fast motion".
  12. Hello folks, sometimes it´s time to try something new. I always liked figures and I liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy...so why not try to join them? The manufacturer "Games Workshop" produces a Lord of the Rings series with some very nice figures. Actually these figures are designed for the table top game, the level of detail is so good, they are inviting to build little dioramas with them. For my first attempt I decided for the epic battle good against evil, Gandalf against the mean Balrog, at the Bridge of Khazad-Dûm. The figures are 28 mm scale, that´s about 1/64th scale, as you ca
