  1. Hello Tracy Yes, that is a Bf 110 and the insignia is that of the Dackelstaffel of JG 5 equipped with these twin-engined fighters in the far north. The Eduard 1/48 scale Bf 110 E (8203) includes markings for an aircraft of this unit flown by Felix-Maria Brandis. Horrido! Leo
  2. Hello Tracy Honestly I have no idea what is available regarding 1/48 scale but I do know that Hasegawa issued their 1/32 scale Fw 190 D-9 in a special Rudel boxing (08143). I have no idea if this is still available, though, as this was a limited edition release. I am aware that EagleCals has available decals of his Ju 87 G-2 that he flew to Kitzingen on 8 May 1945 in both 1/48 scale (97-48) and 1/32 scale (97-32). Some interesting photographs of Rudel and one of his BMW 801 powered Fw 190 aircraft can be seen at http://falkeeins.blogspot.com/2011/12/hans-ulrich-rudel-fw-190-sequence.html I ho
  3. Hi guys From reading the Hyperscale thread, I get the impression that the trouble is that the kit appears to be somewhat larger then 1/48 scale but is proportionally accurate. Is this what others come away with? If so, then the main problem would be that any aftermarket used would have to be specifically designed for this particular kit. As an aside, I also have noticed that Eduard has molded three weld seams on the front of the drop tank forward of the carrying strap. The majority of these drop tanks had two weld seams in that area for what I understand Horrido! Leo
  4. Hi guys Somewhat belatedly as I did not notice this thread until now here is an image of the seat of the Bf 109 G-series included in The Messerschmitt Bf 109 Part 2 by Ritger. It seems it was a good idea to get rid of that odd cover on the Aires cockpit set. The cockpit is looking very nice and especially since you are using toned downed colors for the wiring and piping. Horrido! Leo
  5. Hi guys I came across this link in which Master Model has announced that they will be releasing three armament sets for the Fw 190 A-series in 1/32 scale. The sets are for the Fw 190 A-2 through A-5, the Fw 190 A-6 and the Fw 190 A-7 through A-9. I also am aware that Aber has available an armament set for the Fw 190 A2 through A-6 in 1/32 scale as well. The differences that I see are that the Aber set includes full length barrels for the MG 17 cowl mounted machine guns and the wheel well fairings for the MG 151/20E cannons are a two part arrangement rather then a single tube as Maste
  6. Hi schonert According to The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Dora by Jerry Crandall the early Sorau built Doras were painted Gray-Violet and Dark Green over Light Blue. Based on the new evidence that has come to light recently this scheme would be RLM 75/RLM 81/RLM 76 if I am not mistaken. Horrido! Leo
  7. Hi guys In the Bodenplatte book by Manhro and Pütz are included photographs of the wrecks of Fw 190 A-9 "Black <-" (W.Nr. 980 543) flown by Oberstleutnant Johann Kogler, Geschwaderkommodore of JG 6, and Bf 109 G-14/AS "Yellow 19" (W.Nr. 784 986) flown by Oberfeldwebel Paul Schwerdtfeger of 11./JG 6 which show these to have the red-white-red tail bands. Interestingly, it also now appears that III./JG 6 also used white-red tail bands such as those on Bf 109 G-14/AS "Green 1" (W.Nr. 784 938) of 12./JG 6. Horrido! Leo
  8. Hi guys Not much to add as I am anything but knowledgeable in this field but just to keep in mind that whatever the RLM number it was or was not the Dark Green formerly known as RLM 83 and now based on current thinking to have been a variation of RLM 81 did exist as can be verified by wreck recovery. All that is being argued is the numerical designation. The same can be said for the Light Green known as RLM 84; whether or not it was a variation of RLM 76 Light Blue or a entirely new color the fact remains that it did exist and aircraft were painted this color. For historical accuracy perhaps

    Bf-109 Question

Hi guys Boris is correct in that the base of the Morane mast was clear. A photograph of this can be seen in Aero Detail 05 which I have included in case it may be of some help. Horrido! Leo
  10. Hi ch9862 The two BarracudaCals sheets do have more variety in the sense that there are aircraft from more units represented (JG 51, JG 300, JG 27, JG 301, JG 52, JG 4 and KG(J) 27) whereas the majority of those on the EagleCals sheets are from JG 300 and JG 301. I wonder what the other two subjects will be of. For those interested, here is a preview of the BarracudaCals sheets: http://www.hyperscale.com/2013/reviews/decals/barracudacalsbc32144previewbg_1.htm Horrido! Leo
  11. Hi guys For those interested in the Revell 1/32 scale Bf 109 G-10 Erla, Judy Crandall has posted some very nice color profiles of various subjects that will be among those offered. http://www.network54.com/Forum/149674/thread/1393363055/Two+new+EagleCals+for+the+Erla+Bf+109+G-10!!! There are some very attractive aircraft included in these and this announcement should be welcome for those with this model. Horrido! Leo
  12. Hi guys Many thanks for your review of the Karaya correction set. I have to admit that I some times am a bit suspicious of resin aftermarket reviews since usually the set in question is provided to the reviewer for examination. Obviously, the manufacturer is going to provide as perfect an example as possible and given the nature of resin parts this might not be similar to what the average customer will end up with. I prefer more to see how the parts anonymous customers receive are in order to gauge the quality control the manufacturer has. In this case it seems as if the parts are of high qua
  13. Hi Chippy I'm glad that you went ahead and bought this set as from what I can see in the photos it appears to be of quite high quality. It certainly appears to address a number of issues that the Eduard kit has so hopefully you will be satisfied with your purchase. Please post your findings here as the Fw 190 is my favorite subject and I am very interested in how this set results. Horrido! Leo
  14. Hello Unfortunately, I have never seen this correction set used on any online build that I am aware of which is a pity as it seems to be very comprehensive and adds much to the Eduard kit. Considering the popularity of the Eduard kit one would think that somebody has used one of these. Like you I would be very interested to know how it fits with the base kit and such. For a price of $26 it seems to be excellent value for money considering what you get. Horrido! Leo
  15. Hi 11bee Yes, Erla did produce a small number of Bf 109 G-14/AS fighters compared to Messerschmitt Regensburg which produced the vast majority. These aircraft had the "half-moons" as was normal for G-6/AS and G-14/AS machines. Only the Bf 109 G-10 Erla had the odd asymmetrical cowling. I hope this helps and any comments or corrections will be appreciated. Horrido! Leo
  16. Hi guys The only fool proof way to distinguish a G-14/AS and a G-10 is by the werknummer. The positions of the oil tank filler and cold weather start hatch are also generally used to distinguish between the two. This will work with the majority of cases although it should be pointed out that even here there is some elements that can lead to confusion. For example, "Red 2" often associated with Eberhard Gzik is currently identified as being a Bf 109 G-14/AS. Previously, this machine was identified as a Bf 109 G-10 due to it having the deeper oil cooler and the oil filler hatch is mounted in th
  17. Hi guys According to The Messerschmitt Bf 109 Part 2 by Ritger the ways to identify a Bf 109 G-6/AS or G-14/AS as compared to a Bf 109 G-10 built by Mtt or WNF are the following: the G-6/AS and the majority of G-14/AS fighters were fitted with the Fo 870 oil cooler wile the G-10 and some G-14/AS were fitted with the deeper Fo 987 oil cooler; the DB 605 AS used the same 38.7 liter oil tank as the DB 605 A whereas the DB 605 D of the G-10 used a 50 liter oil tank and thus the filler point immediately behind the spinner on the port side is mounted higher; the DB 605 D had larger rocker covers th
  18. Hi guys I have no idea which version they will do next as the only 2014 schedule for Revell of Germany that I have seen makes no mention of anything aside of the Bf 109 G-10 Erla. However, a Bf 109 G-6/AS or an early G-14/AS will almost certainly be based on the existing G-6 sprues as can be inferred by the fuselage halves which were clearly designed to accommodate the "half-moons" that these aircraft were fitted with. The later production Bf 109 G-14/AS fighters built by Messerchmitt Regensburg were fitted with the large chin bulges much like the Bf 109 K-4 and the existing Bf 109 G-6 fusela
  19. H guys Brett Green has posted a review of this kit over at Hyperscale: http://hyperscale.com/2014/reviews/kits/revell04888reviewbg_1.htm. Seems quite nice and finally the wait is over for those wanting a 1/32 scale Erla Bf 109 G-10. Horrido! Leo

    Me109G-6 Gun cowl

Hello Boris Have you tried contacting Masur Mustafin about this? He would probably be the fellow to ask since he has blueprints of the Bf 109 G-6 in his possession, if I am remembering correctly. Perhaps it would be worth the effort to ask him if he is willing to help or knows the answer? Horrido! Leo
  21. Hi guys By all accounts it does seem to be quite nice for its age except for the very sparse cockpit typical of kits from that era. I did see that Mike West of Lone Star Models also offers a cockpit detail set for this kit so I went ahead and bought one while also ordering the Hawk III conversion set. I agree that despite being a nice kit and all the price is frankly quite exorbitant considering the age of this kit and that the new tool Dragon 1/32 scale Bf 109 E-3 that I plan to get simultaneously will cost about the same amount. At times like this I really wish that I had an eBay account bu
  22. Hi Jan It is generally regarded that the aircraft that you are interested in was a Bf 109 G-2/Trop of the Geschwaderstab of JG 77. I hope this helps somewhat. Horrido! Leo
  23. Hi John That is excellent news. As you wrote that is the last of the major errors of the Revell kit that I am aware of and now finally this has been addressed. Too bad this issue appeared after the first correction set was released but it solves the trouble of having to correct this error yourself. The price will be about $9.85 for what I see but it is necessary in my opinion. Thanks John for bring this to our attention. http://www.a2zeemodels.co.uk/messerschmitt-bf-109-gun-decks-set-for-revell-kit-6374-p.asp Horrido! Leo

    Bf-109 Question

Hello John Yes, I did see that Green consistently refers to this aircraft as a Bf 109 G-6/U4. However, the fact that photographs appear to show no evidence of either the air outlet nor the filler point, both necessary for the operation of the MK 108, makes me wonder. Also, I noticed that both Lynn Ritger on his web site and Ferdinando D'Amico over on TOCH, who is one of the most knowledgeable individuals on late war Bf 109 fighters, each refer to this aircraft simply as a Bf 109 G-6 and not a G-6/U4. I will readily concede that Green is far more knowledgeable about these aircraft then I could
  25. Hello dann I am currently living overseas but I do have an account with a US based bank upon which the check would be drawn and my brother to whom I will be shipping the model to while I am not in the country resides in North Carolina. So basically everything would be as if I live in the States. If you wish, please contact me by private message with the price and shipping and other details if you are still interested. Many thanks. Horrido! Leo
