  1. Hello Would anyone have one of these in their stash and be willing to sell it? I would prefer an unopened example but am willing to consider if the price is right. I can pay with a personal check drawn on my bank in the USA. Horrido! Leo

    Bf-109 Question

Hi guys John, are you referring to Bf 109 G-6 (W.Nr. 163 824) of the Australian War Memorial? I looked at various online photographs and I did not see the air outlet aft of the exhausts either. However, it should be noted that this was a Messerschmitt Regensburg built example and therefore not fitted with the MK 108 as originally constructed. I have seen some statements that this aircraft was latter modified to the U4 standard but I must admit that I have some doubts regarding that. While searching for some sort of an answer I came across this web page: http://www.dws.org.pl/viewtopic.php?f=6
  3. Hi guys I do not think that there is anything terribly wrong with the Hasegawa 1/32 Bf 109 F-series but considering that the Zvezda kits in 1/48 are frequently described as being the best Bf 109 kits available in any scale it is understandable that many hope that they will eventually scale up these. I have heard that they are working on the G-series in 1/48 but unfortunately nothing about any 1/32 scale plans. In fact, I am not even aware they have released anything in 1/32 scale. Have they? Horrido! Leo

    Bf-109 Question

Hello 11bee A quick glance through Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-10/U4 by Japo mentions that the MK 108 installation can be recognized by the cover of the compressed-air filler point located on the bottom right of the fifth fuselage section and the air outlet aft of the starboard exhaust as you mentioned. Although specifically dealing with the Bf 109 G-10/U4 I would assume this pertained to all MK 108 armed fighters such as the Bf 109 G-6/U4 and G-14/U4. It should be noted that WNF was the sole manufacturer of the MK 108 armed variants so any model should generally have the normal camouflage scheme
  5. Hi guys The web site that I have seen that has the best kit reviews in my opinion is http://scaleplasticandrail.com. Very extensive and well researched reviews of both kits and accessories can be found there. Horrido! Leo
  6. Hi guys The Eduard aftermarket appears to be very nice from what I have seen and looking at the prices for various of their sets at Roll Models I honestly feel that they are not any more expensive then similar products. For example, the Eduard cockpit set is available for $37.50, the bronze undercarriage legs for $17.25, the exhausts for $7.50 and the main wheels for $11.25. By comparison, the MDC cockpit for the Hasegawa kit is $38.25 at Ultracast (Roll Models does not appear to carry MDC), the G-Factor metal landing gear for the Hasegawa kit is available at Roll Models for $16.75, the Quick
  7. Hi Guys I have seen that Hasegawa will soon be re-issuing its 1/32 scale BF2C-1 Goshawk. I do not know much about this kit except that it is of 1970's vintage. I would really like to have a available a 1/32 scale Hawk III export version such as used by China during the Second Sino-Japanese War and I see that Mike West of Lone Star Models has just released a resin conversion set (LSM 30537) based on this kit to enable one to do this. Can any one tell me a bit more about this kit regarding accuracy and detail? Any comments on the quality of the sets issued by Lone Star Models? Many thanks. Hor
  8. Hi Have you already seen the Bf 109 G-2/4 cockpit set by MDC? http://www.largescaleplanes.com/reviews/review.php?rid=851 Hopefully this is of some help. Horrido! Leo
  9. Hi guys Some images of the soon to be released Revell 1/32 scale Bf 109 G-10 Erla can be found at the following link: http://www.ipmsdeutschland.de/Flugzeuge/Wiegmann/Rev_Bf109G-10_Erla_32/Rev_Bf109G-10_Erla.html I hope this is interesting for those waiting for this kit. Horrido! Leo
  10. Hi guys Honestly I must admit that I have not heard anything that Revell of Germany plans on releasing a Bf 109 G-14 but it is almost certainly going to happen, especially as 11bee noted virtually all the necessary parts are already included in the G-6 boxing. The Bf 109 G-14 was basically a Bf 109 G-6 fitted with MW 50 so it should not be too difficult for them to do. Yes, late production Bf 109 G-14 fighters were occasionally fitted with the larger main wheels. For example, Erla built examples from the 465 werknummer block were often seen with the large wooden tail, large main wheels and th
  11. Hi guys It seems as if some late production Bf 109 G-14 fighters were fitted with the larger 660x190 mm main wheels and larger wing bulges. I have no idea if Revell of Germany plans to include these in the G-14 boxing but it would be quite nice if they did. Horrido! Leo
  12. Hi guys That certainly is quite unfortunate news. I never thought that this kit would be a limited issue and that it has already virtually sold out. Perhaps one will have to wait until the G-14 boxing since I would presume it will include all the parts included in the G-6 boxing plus the larger main wheels and their associated wing bulges? At least that is what I am hoping. Horrido! Leo

    BF 109K-4

Hello Pierre It is my understanding that the Bf 109 E-7 was generally fitted with the ETC 500 whereas the Bf 109 K-4 was generally fitted with the Schloss 503 although it could also be fitted with the ETC 500 as well. Both of these could also carry bombs as well as drop tanks if needed and the primary difference that I am aware of is that the Schloss 503 was more aerodynamically efficient causing a loss of four km/h at sea level as compared to the ETC 500 which caused a loss of 12 km/h at sea level. Hopefully this might help you and any comments or corrections will be welcome. Horrido! Leo
  14. Hello Gary The Bf 109 F-4 used Federbein 8-2787-07 and -08 with 650 x 150 mm main wheels. Again, I must admit that I have no idea of any external differences between any of these but perhaps by studying photographs some noticeable aspects will appear for those interested. Horrido! Leo
  15. Hi guys Like the above I would presume that the Erla boxing will contain parts specifically for that version and the Mtt and WNF versions will come later. I also would presume that the larger main wheels and their associated wing bugles will be included in both boxings since Revell engineered the kit to accept the two. I can only assume that the appeal of the Erla built versions is due to the fact that they were fitted with a noticeably different engine cowl compared to the Mtt and WNF versions and that this version was never available as a 1/32 scale injection molded kit before. There were t
  16. Hello Jennings For what I understand the Bf 109 G-2 used Federbein 8-2787-09 and -10 with 650 x 150 mm main wheels as well as Federbein 8-2787-11 and -12 with 660 x 160 mm main wheels. The Bf 109 G-6 was fitted with Federbein 8-2787-11 and -12 and later Federbein 8-2787-13 and -14. The different landing gear struts were necessary to cope with the increasing operational weight of the aircraft. Unfortunately I can not remark on any visual differences between the various landing gear legs. Horrido! Leo
  17. Hello 11bee Here is a link to a webpage that identifies some of the differences between the Erla built versions and those by Mtt and WNF. http://109lair.hobbyvista.com/articles/g10/g10.htm I should point out that the general consensus now appears to be that there was no difference between the Fo 987 oil coolers fitted to the Bf 109 G-10 fighters produced by the three factories and that the previous idea of Erla built examples having a different oil cooler housing was due to an optical illusion caused by the deeper and flatter lower engine cowl fitted to the Erla produced versions. Hopefull
  18. Hello John You will want kit number 8071 (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10036915). If you are lucky you might be able to find kit number 8172 (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10058413) which already comes with decals for the aircraft you are interested in as well as his less famous Fw 190 A-7 "Red 23" although I believe this was a limited edition release. I hope this helps. Horrido! Leo
  19. Hello John Cutting Edge CED32068 also includes markings for his Fw 190 A-7 "Red 13" (W.Nr. 431 007) if that is the aircraft you wish to model. You can find this sheet at http://www.fineartofdecals.com/goodies/132-treasures/ as Exciting Fw 190s #2 for $17.97. I hope this helps you. Horrido! Leo

    Bf-109K4

Hello Pierre I know that both Eagle Editions and MDC offer a Bf 109 K-4 cockpit in 1/32 scale; perhaps online photos of these can help you? You can also find a diagram of the cockpit on page seven of the Bf 109 K-4 handbook available at http://109lair.hobbyvista.com/techref/manuals/k4_handbuch.pdf that might be helpful. Horrido! Leo
  21. Hi guys Just to mention that I have been in contact with Alistair McLean of A2Zee Models regarding the possibility of including corrected machine gun cowls as the ones included in the Revell kit have the gun troughs spaced too closely together. Perhaps others will wish to ask that these be included as well? As the aphorism goes the squeaky wheel gets the grease. His e-mail is sales (at) a2zeemodels.co.uk. Please be understanding that this might or might not be possible. Horrido! Leo
  22. Hello Mike That was the specific thread that I had in mind when I wrote my question. However, now that Thierry Laurent has posted the length of the gun breech panel based on blueprints which confirms that the Hasegawa kit indeed is in error the question is solved for me. I should point out that it appears that the spacing of the MG 131 gun troughs is in error on the Revell kit; hopefully A2Zee Models will eventually incorporate a new upper cowling in their correction set. Horrido! Leo
  23. Hello all I have a question regarding the dimensional accuracy of the 1/32 scale Bf 109 G-6 kits by Hasegawa and Revell. The general consensus of opinion for some time now has been that the Hasegawa kit is a bit too short (some two millimeters) and that most of this error is concentrated in the nose area, specifically in the area between the Beule and the windscreen, if I remember correctly. Most reviews, including the detailed one at http://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/1238-132-messerschmitt-bf-109g-6-early-and-late/ state that the new Revell release is quite accurate dimensionally-wis
  24. Hello 11 bee I am not aware of any aftermarket set that can be used to convert a 1/32 scale Bf 109 G-14 into a Bf 109 G-14/AS. Perhaps some one else can confirm if this is the case or not. Horrido! Leo
  25. Hello J Which Trumpeter kit in 1/32 do you have in mind? I think that most everyone here will agree with me to stay away from their E-series as it is very inaccurate. The best Bf 109 E-series in 1/32, in my opinion, are the Cyber-Hobby kits as nerdling pointed out as they are accurate, detailed and easy to build. Horrido! Leo
