This one represents an aircraft of the British Army Air Corps as operated in support of the United Nations in Bosnia during 1995. The aircraft was operated with a machine gun on the left side, as this is the side the Aircraft Commander was flying from, and he/she directed the fire. After the UN mission failed in November 1995, the Army Air Corps re-painted their cabs into Grey/Green camouflage and fitted live TOW missiles to the right side, retaining the MG on the left. In this fit, they then patrolled in pairs. You may notice that the aircraft doesn't carry national insignia, or

With the two types of Airfix 1/48 Lynx, the Army version doesn't have tail folding, but the Naval version does. Both versions have the main blade folding option. My kit was built using the kit tail and main blade folding parts.

So, for my first build of 2013, it's remarkably similar to the last one of 2012 - a Lynx. This one is the Airfix HMA.8 kit, modified to represent an earlier HAS.2 model. The main modifications involve making straight metal blades from the modern composite CMRB's, new tail rotor blades and a new profile for the nose.

Thank you all for taking the time and trouble to put those replies together. :salute:/> I certainly know the way forward now and it seems that 1/72 might be easier to achieve than 1/48. Regards, Nigel

It's a different subject - we don't see many of these. Nicely done!

For a small model, that looks very nice. I like the weathering and the faded dayglo!

In June 1979 I had a 30 minute flight in what my log book says was a Cobra AH.1S, 71/21026 from Detmold in Northern Germany (a British Army Air Corps base at the time). For some time now, a project that's been eating away at me is to build a model of that helicopter. Could anyone recommend an appropriate kit/aftermarket combination that would suit that model from that year please? I seem to recall that it has the "rounded" canopy rather than the flat panels that I see in every model readily available (so far). Advice appreciated. Nigel

In the early 1980’s it was not unknown at RAF Cottesmore (the Tri-National Tornado Training Establishment - TTTE) for a problem to occur with the Tornado, when a microswitch fault in the nose undercarriage bay prevented the nose gear from retracting. Air Traffic Control would declare an appropriate Emergency State to bring the Crash Crews and Medical Centre to readiness in case of an accident on landing, and to alert the Engineers for possible aircraft recovery on the ground after landing. State 1 would be a crash on or off the airfield, and a State 3 would be a precautionary measure, but

This is my final build finished in 2012. The recently released 1/32 kit is a superb offering by Revell and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it! The blade fold was done using the kit from Scalewarship Ltd, I have scratch built the FOD covers and forward rotor stays, but apart from that it's pretty much OOB. A pinch of salt is required with the Sea Skua missile, as it wouldn't normally be fitted until the helicopter is ready for flight!

The Green Goddess vehicle was based on the Bedford RL chassis rather than this MK type, and was a fair bit older. The Green Goddess was a Fire Appliance rather than a refuelling vehicle, but they have all been withdrawn from British service now.

Over the weekend of 16 & 17th June, Newark Air Museum hosted the annual and long running CockpitFest event. These photos are from the Saturday, when rain threatened for much of the day. Luftwaffe Phantom Jet Provost Mk.3 Jet Provost Mk.5 Harrier GR3 - very much a work in progress! Phantom FGR2 Spitfire Nimrod - minimal, but you have to start with something... Lightning Lightning uncovered Canberra & Hunters

That's a spectacular looking Cobra!

My apologies if this isn't the correct forum, but it's not an aircraft, not armour, but is most definitely a vehicle - and a long serving one in British military service to boot.

Thank you - yes, the green was freehand. :D
