  1. Update 21June2010 The build is coming along pretty well. Ran into some minor fit issues where the wing section meets the fuselage...Tamiya has an interesting way of dealing with the attachment (see my earlier pics of the spars running behind the cockpit). Fixed it with a bit of Testors Putty. Underside of the aircraft is airbrushed with a Delta Ceramcoat Acrylic to represent "Hellblau", and as I'm probably going to make this a post-war captured British aircraft, I've painted the correct sections on the nose cowl in Model Master Aluminum buffing metalizer. Landing gear, bay doors, and othe
  2. Larry, I've got a few sets of 18F decals...those are nice, and I would be interested in them, but I am mainly looking for single seat 18E decals. Let me know if I've got a decal set you'd like to trade for those, though. Thanks, Jay
  3. If only the F-35 looked that good. Hell, I wouldn't even mind paying for them for the rest of my life if they had lines like the Gripen...may have to pick one of these up, thanks for the info!
  4. Hahahahah.... That was pretty much my thought about the whole thing, I just wanted to make sure that it looked close to more than my eyes. Still gotta love the name "Blissful Blue" going on a warbird. Thanks to everyone that responded. Pics of the build in progress and once its' completed will be hanging in the Trainer group build! Jay
  5. Actions speak louder than words...so THAT's where the Speak softly and carry a big stick line come from!
  6. Thanks for the help Greg, I must have misstated my original question, in that the color I airbrushed on tonight was the only reasonable substitution I could find at my local Hobby Lobby. The main idea I was trying to get across, is the example I provided (paint chip) and the paint on the wing of my model, are those acceptable as the color known as "HellBlau" Or even "Lichtblau" because I am nowhere near a shop that sells paint labelled as either of those. Anyway, I do appreciate your help, anyone have any ideas on my revised question?
  7. Well, here we go again folks: I am in need of some 1/48 F/A-18E decals...got 2 of them staring at me from the stash...and am always looking for a set of FoxOne "Combat in the BUFF" decals... WTT: 72 or 48 aircraft, or 35 armor or Helos for any/all of the kits listed below. Among those, I confess, I like Seaplanes, Bigger scale Helos, Century series US Jets, Or large scale -32 would be awesome- Early WW2 Naval Aviation. I've got some weird stuff overall, not the everyday 15,16,18 stuff. I do enjoy esoteric kits, so if you've got something weird in your stash you'd like to part with, shoo
  8. Hello all, I'm working on a Do-335A-12 for the Trainer GB here on ARC, and have run into a bit of a question. I'm without a LHS in reasonable driving distance (closest is around 90 miles) and have to get by with the supplies available at the local "Hobby Lobby". Now, on to the question. According to most of the pics, info, and Tamiya's instruction sheet, the lower surfaces of the Pfeil were all painted in "Hellblau" -Referenced as Tamiya's AS-5. Well, I bought a little bottle of what I think is the closest I'll get without ordering something, or taking an hour and a half drive. Now, in l
  9. PM sent with some THUD info for ya. HTH.
  10. Nice looking sheets! Price?
  11. VERY cool! Always did like the Cheyenne...got a couple of the old Aurora kits in the stash, been thinking about modernizing one of them, thanks for the pics!
  12. Thought I'd share a couple pics, just getting into the swing of things with my build. Here's the quick & dirty details: 1/48 Tamiya Dornier Do-335A-12 Trainer "Ant Eater" Building straight OOB, though I may do post war UK markings, still looking for references on those, though. Any thoughts/suggestions/complaints? Box Art: First main sub-assembly: Same assembly, different view: Thanks, Jay Update: Both cockpits finished, will be joining fuselage halves and maybe a bit more today, took a few mock-up pics for the build so far. Thoughts?
  13. Hello folks, I've just started working on Tamiya's great 1/48 Do-335A-12 for the Trainers group build. In digging through my references, I was able to find one pic each of a trainer Pfeil in US & UK markings, and I know it's a bit of a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone else might have some pics/info/reference handy for paint, unit markings, or any other relevant info. I'm not above possibly trying a "Whif" paint scheme, but would like to have the markings as correct as I can manage. Thanks, Jay
  14. Well, I'll jump in with Tamiya's 48th scale Do-335A-12. Always thought the "Anteater" was a cool looking bird, and the extra bubble on top makes one of the strangest looking trainers I've ever seen. Will post In Progress.
  15. Beautiful work, Ken! That Bounder looks awesome! I've been trying to find a decent store locally for spray...nearly everything at the big box stores here is gloss, textured, or nearly $7 a can. I'll try to put a couple pics of some of my other rattle can birds later today. Thanks again for the pics, they look great! Jay
  16. Showing off the F-35's sexier, older sister...that actually flies!
  17. Very Nice! I really like your Heyford and He-111, beautiful stuff! I've done a few with rattle cans, most lately have been using the airbrush. Been fighting a mean case of insomnia lately, did a little messing around tonight/this morning with spray cans and masking tape on a 72nd Henschel HS-123 (just the lower wing tonight). It may be a little over the top, but I think it looks pretty good.
  18. Just as a bit of a challenge to myself, and to see if I still have the "mad skills" I used to, I've decided to build my entire "Not Your Nation" Group Build entry - a Has. Ju-88A4 using only rattle cans...no airbrushing, no brushing by hand. Gonna take an awful lot of time and masking, but I've done it before. My question to you all: How many people have gone start to finish on a kit using only spray paint? I'm planning to use brushes for weathering once paint and decals are fully in place. Anyone out there feel like stepping up to the challenge with me? :( And if you're not up to it ri
  19. PM with links inbound, let me know if ya need any help with those.
  20. a 48th Global Hawk?? Reeeallly? Sweet! Looking forward to seeing it.
  21. So, is there a "Worst Movie" thread? I just watched "Interceptor", and WOW....I love low budget cheesy film, but this one is in a class by itself. F-117s being launched out the back of a C-5? Got it. "Have-Blue" style paint job? Got it. TV guided Mavericks as air-air missiles? Got it. REALLY bad acting? Yep, Got that too. Ah, and can't forget the old "Climb down the boom of a KC-10 to hijack a C-5" gambit. If you've got 90 minutes of your life you'd care to waste, check it out
  22. I've got a few e-books about the BUFF (in PDF format). Planning on uploading them to Rapidshare, will share the link if you'd be interested.
  23. Let's see if my memory is working any better than yours  -10 Air carts hooked up to the #2 nacelle...-96? Hobart generators, plugged in just aft and starboard of the crew hatch (those cords were always so bulky)...Those were nearly always placed around the SIOP pad...IIRC, Intake covers were not used too often on alert birds, but I could be mistaken. Might be cool to scratchbuild some starter carts. Red in color, about the size of a large coffee can. Damn, trying to remember all this AGE stuff is hard. I'll look through some of my stuff and see if I can find anything else to help
  24. Is this what ya need? http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10068884 Should be pics of instructions there, assuming it's the right kit. If not, may be able to find it there.
