  1. Thanks for the compliment and the info!
  2. The spandau is complete and fixed in place, and I painted the padding around the edges of the cockpit. The red leather will be toned down a little when I do the final weathering. Tomorrow I'm hoping to get the ammo belt in place, and finish the last few decals, then I can move onto the rigging mast and the undercarriage. More to follow......... Bill
  3. Thanks for the comments. Yes, it's completely OOB.
  4. If I can do it, anyone can I just finished rolling and attaching the PE cooling jacket for the gun, once my nerves unfray, I may attempt to install a thin piece of wire through the hole in the front for the barrel, then again, it's so fragile is it worth it, and How many people will notice................ill mull it over More to follow Bill
  5. Thanks dnl. First I put down a coat of Alclad aluminum, the I used a regular silver sharpy, and worked in a swirl motion, building up a few layers of sharpy ink. Once the ink dried, I did the same swirl motion using a silver prima color pencil, a little at a time until I had the effect I was looking for. I really had no idea what I was doing, I was just hoping it would work, if it didn't, just repaint, but I think it turned out pretty good. The pictures don't really do it justice because my lighting sucked. Maybe it'll show up better when it goes in the display case.
  6. Thanks Adam, and no they weren't, they were very fragile. So I just finished the swirled machining pattern on the aluminum parts that were such a hallmark of the Eindecker. I tried to keep it subtle remembering this is 1/48th, and in real life those swirls are roughly the size of a silver dollar, maybe a tad bigger. More to follow...... Bill
  7. Ailerons attach points are filled and sanded, and the ailerons are in place, if you fit them in straight, there would have been big, noticeable gaps, so I deflected them a little more than what I saw in most pictures, I think it looks ok. I've hit a snag, I accidentally broke the aft canopy, so I'll have to order a vacuform. I have a few odds and ends I can do till it shows up. More to follow........ Bill
  8. I still haven't fo gotten this one, just really slow and I have been working on two other models. I've gotten some of the decals on, really just the crosses. They were really fragile, especially the fuselage crosses, since they had to be cut from a larger decal. Tonight I'll put setting solution to get them to snug down, then I'll do the rest. More to follow........ Bill
  9. Well, I can add this one to the shelf. For my second NMF finish, I think it turned out, ok. It's by far, not the best I've ever done, but it was a fun learning process as far as prepping seams and such for an NFM finish. I used two different colors of Alclad aluminum, and gave it an over coat of dull coat. I intentionally went a little light with the Alclad in places to allow more black to show through, hoping it would give the impression of a metal surface that has seen a few Siberian winters, I think I went a little too light in some spots, but like I said, it was a learnin
  10. Oh no, the elevators and the rudder look great, and were easy to do, I'm just talking about the ailerons, the fit was fiddly, the instructions were vague, and the fit is a little off.....although that could be my fault, but I blame the unclear instructions
  11. The fuselage is attached to the wings, what can I say, Tamiya, no seams to fill. I do however need to do a minor amount of sanding and filling at the aileron attach points for the AM, not bad though. I also attached the rudder and the elevators in deflected positions. I'll attach the ailerons after I've filled. More to follow........ Bill
  12. I started to work on the AM ailerons, this looks like it's going to be a pain to sand and fit to get these in place. I may end up wishing I'd left the kit ailerons in place. More to follow........ Bill
  13. In progress: 1/48th Tamiya Mk Vb trop Spitfire 1/48th Eduard Fokker Eindecker 1/48th Hobby Boss MiG-17PF 1/200th Trumpeter Bismarck Next up: Nooooooooo idea...........
  14. I've removed all of the kit flight controls, next up I'll remove the resin stuff from the big chunks, (technical term), and wash them really well. It's going to take some careful sanding and testing to make sure the aileron attach points fit right, the directions are pretty vague other than, "sand flat". I'm going to drop the horizontal stabs to a rest postion. More to follow....... Bill Btw, the wing surfaces aren't cemented yet.....
  15. I always assumed with some of your detailed and inspired posts here, blogging was your thing!
  16. I got the fuselage glued together this morning, and started removing the kits flight control surfaces to make room for the AM stuff. More to follow............ Bill
  17. Thanks AX The interior is finished and weathered. I'm going to wait until tomorrow at my club meeting to close up the fuselage, that will give me something to do there. I didn't realize until I uploaded the pictures they are a little out of focus. More to follow......... Bill
  18. The rumor is because it "generates" hydraulic power, who really knows. Stuff like that is why you just never wear clean uniforms unless you have watch or quarters Coveralls were the greatest!
  19. We call it a jenny, or genni, spelling depending on who you talk to.
  20. I've tried a few times to make tape belts, and could never really pull its off. It'll be ok with the canopy closed.
  21. Well, the interior is mostly painted, I need to do some minor touch up. Tomorrow I hope to get the wash on and hit it up with a silver pencil to cap off the weathering so I can close it up. I really wish I'd have invested in a PE set, I didn't have the right interior set in my stash, I didn't even have appropriate belts. Oh well, maybe next time. More to follow....... Bill
