  1. Very nice so far, makes me wish I'd have bought a PE set for mine.
  2. Not much, but it's a start. Tomorrow I plan on painting and weathering the cockpit, hopefully by Sunday I'll have the fuselage closed up. I'm not going crazy with AM.....I was planning on it.......but the only Merlin I have in my stash doesn't have the tropical filter, so I'll only be adding AM flight controls and wheels. More to follow..... Bill
  3. Very nice work so far, I can't wait to see all those parts come together.
  4. My Spit finally showed up in the mail today, so I'm in! I've had these decals in my stash for a long time and have been dying to use them, but never have seem to gotten around to it, so this is the perfect opportunity. I'll be building the markings at the top, I'd considered the shark mouth because it looks cool, but I have nothing in my collection with Torch markings. Customary sprue shot....... AND.........GO! More to follow...... Bill
  5. I lived in Ypsi for a long time, as well as Lewiston, close to Tawas. There is fantastic fishing in the Northern Lower. East and West Twin Lakes, Tee Lake, Bear Lake......the list goes on. Plus there are always charters on the Great lakes if you don't have your own boat.
  6. Alclad done....... More to follow........ Bill
  7. Very nice! Is that the kit canopy? It looks less chunky than the one on my Airfix 109.
  8. That's a good looking bird, nice job filling the gaps.
  9. Most of the painting is done, I ran out of rubber gloves, so when I get more tomorrow, I'll break out the Alclad and paint the cowl and shrouds around the nose. The red may seem a little dark at the moment, it's mostly the light, but it will lighten more when I weather. Not too much longer, and I can decal, then start the landing gear. More to follow........... Bill
  10. Beige is done, next up is to paint the white. I'm not going to use the large kit decals for those portions of the markings. More to follow...... Bill
  11. I haven't forgotten about this build, it's just been really cold in the garage and I haven't wanted to airbrush. I put on the last of the PE for the fuselage, and am going to prime tomorrow, and hopefully Sunday the painting will be finished. More to follow....... Bill
  12. I have a 1/48th Special Hobby Martin Maryland Mk I that has been begging me to build it.
  13. 6 months ago I got one of German armored cars of WWII, nothing I really knew anything about, but it was pretty interested and got me interested in building some
  14. I just got a hardback B-52G/H in action, I'm pleased.
  15. Pushing the TEFs up sucks, that's one of the things that's better on Supers, they don't have to get pushed up to open the 64 doors. You have to move the rudders by hand to get the 71 panels off for the stab servos and the rudder shrouds, or to do a post wash if the rudder is facing the wrong way and is covering the grease tip. It's not uncommon underway to have winds strong enough, no one is allowed on top of the jets, usually when the ship is going someplace in a hurry.
  16. If the aileron locking pin, the mechanical spring loaded one under the aileron shroud doesn't engage, with the wings folded and the TEF's open full, the aileron can move in enough to rub upper edge of the TEF. Sometimes those locking pins will get bent, or they will stick if they aren't lubed enough and not lock.
  17. I can't tell you how many days on the flight deck with 30+ knots of wind I've seen every rudder facing aft, the wind can certainly move them if its strong enough. I've seen squadrons crunch ailerons, because the locking pin didn't engage with wings folded, and the wind pushes the aileron back into the TEF, I've also seen jets on the 1 or 4 row with the horizontal stabs lift due to updraft over the bow.
  18. I remember my mom kept me home from school to watch, she grew up in the Mercury/Gemini era, so to her space flight was very important, and I remember when it blew up, her squeezing me insanely tight. I was old enough to realize something bad happened, but her reaction is etched in my memory. I was stationed in Fallon when Columbia happened, it was faintly visible. Sad indeed
  19. Yes, the form lights get sealed in when they are installed, usually with -8802, which is not necessarily right, but it works just as good as anything else and is the go to because of availability and ease of use.
  20. If by nose gear actuator you mean the drag brace, it's about 5 to 6 inches in diameter, I know that from handling a few hundred of them. I haven't seen the size of the Kinetic part, but I could easily get an exact size, if it really matters that much.
  21. They aren't that hard to fold manually, that's why God made airmen Especially on supers where you don't have to stream line the ailerons. It's a lot easier to crank them up than waste precious hangar space. As long as the wing fold transmission is in, they will fold, and they can't fly without the transmission, that's a definite z code. The only real possibility it if the carousel for the lock/unlock cable is broke, but you still do it maunally with a flat head.
  22. I've seen welding inside of drop tanks, it just requires gas free procedures and needs to be certified class 4, safe for hot work. The welding is done by I level with a work request.
  23. I think I have a couple 350,000 and a few 500,000 Turkish Lira in my souvenir box someplace, they should be worth a couple bucks. I seem to remember a beer costing around 300,000, made me feel like a high roller buying a round!
  24. I was missing a piece for a B-17 from RoG, I emailed them and offered to pay for a replacement, they sent a new part, free of charge within two weeks. I couldn't have been happier with the service.
