  1. A friend of mine who lives under the approach for Boeing Field in the Seattle area messaged me today asking if I could help her figure out what was flying in there today. She didn't have a photo, but she said it was not prop, it was a jet, it was white, it looked "737 or 757-ish in size", and definitely not a 747 (she can accurately ID all the normal stuff that flies in there, such as 737's, 47's, 57's, etc.) and it had canard-looking things right behind the cockpit area. The only thing that came to mind was the F-22 testbed aircraft they have, but I wasn't sure if that thing still even flew.
  2. So I finished putting decals on my Tamiya F-117 (2Bobs Kosovo Bandits sheet), and I notice even after flat coat, they have a distinctive "these are definitely decals" look to them. The ones on the vertical stabs looked so bad that I had to sand everything down and start from scratch (I have a second decal sheet on standby. I haven't tried applying them yet...the paint is drying on the stabs as I type this). The fuselage ones have that look to them as well (not as bad as the ones on the stabs, but you can tell they are decals), but I'm just going to live with those, unfortunately :(/>. My q
  3. Rattle cans are actually all I use (except for detail painting, obviously). Had pretty good luck with them myself, but yes, they are smelly, and they are difficult to control, but that part doesn't matter too much to me because I'm usually painting a fuselage that's all one color (gray) anyway.
  4. That, sir, is the attitude to have, and you will definitely be in my thoughts as you fight...and WIN...this battle
  5. Thanks for the critique. I was just going for filthy, hasn't-been-washed-in-forever, dirty, nasty Humvee. Not really any "look" per se. I'll remember that on my next build. Do you have any suggestions on different weathering techniques? I'm definitely open to suggestions and I'd love to learn, because I can definitely see myself playing with armor kits a little bit more often. I'm going to throw this one in a diorama here when I get a chance. Must finish what's on the workbench here first, though. Glad you like the interior. I was very pleased with how that turned out, which is what convinced
  6. The fit of this kit is fantastic, a true shake and bake job. And what's even better, if you screw up/drip CA glue on it/whatever, just throw some dirt on it to cover it up, nobody knows the difference :rolleyes:/> . Methinks I will be building more armor in the future. Here it is, almost done, just have to add the roof hatches, the roof-mounted weapon, and the antenna and call it finished :D.
  7. So what do y'all think? Don't go easy on me...tell it like it is :)
  8. Very cool. Santa Maria is a Cal Fire air attack base that is activated during fire season, but there's no good spot for photography out there. Last big fire we had was out off of Hwy. 166, and the Stoofs, P-2's and P-3's were pounding the pattern over there like crazy,
  9. I flew on Aluminum Overcast back in 2011 when she came by Santa Maria Airport in CA (which is only about 15 miles from me), and I am seriously thinking about doing it again. I know even if I don't fly, I will at least be visiting her when she passes through in May. What's your local airport, Aaronw? I'm almost exactly in the middle of Camarillo (about 85 miles south of me), where she's stopping first, and Paso Robles, (about 90 miles north of me) where she will visit after that.
  10. After poring over 1,000's of F-117 photos on three different aircraft photo websites, the walkaround section here, AND my two books on the aircraft...it looks to me like sometimes there was only one anti-collision beacon exposed on the aircraft, and it ommonly looks like the one on the bottom side. Concentrated on photos of air shows, since that's where mine will be on "static display". Good thing, too, because it was getting difficult to find a good photo showing the exact location of the one on the top side, but I found some very good shots of the bottom one.
  11. Hmm...I have that IPMS Stockholm page bookmarked on my computer for references...don't know how I missed the shots of that beacon. Judging from those pics, yeah it looks retractable, but could have sworn I read in one of my books that it said it was bolted on for training/non-combat ops and taken off in-theater. I could be dead wrong though. Thanks for the help guys...I've got about 50-75 tabs marked in my F-117 books, and think I've pored over all the pics on Airliners, as well. It just seems to be difficult to find details on obscure little things like that when it comes to this aircraft.EDI
  12. Just wanted to confirm that the F-117 carried just two of the radar signature emitters (one on each side of the fuselage) when it flew training, air shows and other non-combat sorties (I notice Tamiya gives you a pair with the kit, but makes not one mention of them in the instructions. Anywhere. At all.). Two is all I can seem to find in my reference pics, but I just want to make sure that there's none hiding underneath the fuselage or in some other nook or cranny that I may be missing. Also, does anybody have any close-up shots of the red anti-collision beacons that they carry during non-comb
  13. I could be persuaded to poke my head in with a Tomcat of some sort, I'm sure :)
  14. Dude! Magnum PI! I loved that show...one of my favorites! AIRWOLF!!!!!!
  15. I used to see those things on a daily basis out here at Vandenberg AFB. A few years back the ones out here got sent to active missile bases...F.E. Warren and Malmstrom, if I remember right.
  16. Endeavour does not have a tail cone covering the SSME's (she will be displayed as a full stack here within the next few years), Discovery does not, and I don't believe Atlantis will either, as she will be displayed with the payload bay open as if she is in orbit. Not entirely sure about Enterprise, though.I know the SSME's on Endeavour are replicas and not the real thing. They do have one real SSME displayed off to the side with her, though.
  17. Condolences to his friends and family. I will keep them in my thoughts and 's :(
  18. And what happened to your Giants today? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.:monkeydance:/>/> THINK BLUE, BABY! :)/>
  19. Wonderful info! Thanks a lot for the help!I think I may be somewhat musically inclined, because back in the day when I still played, I memorized the entire theme to Star Trek: DS9 on the piano and played it at a recital that my piano teacher had. I was actually pretty proud of that one..LOL.
  20. Hey all, I was just wondering if there's any musicians in the house that could help me out here. Many moons ago, I took piano lessons. My parents started me in it when I was something like 12 and at that time, being a stupid kid, I never really put my heart into it. I really enjoyed going to the lessons, but when it came to dedicating myself and practicing, I guess I felt I had better things to do. By the age of 14, I quit with it. Now, almost 20 years after that, and after seeing people play the piano and thinking "jeez...that could have been me, why was I so stupid to quit playing?", I'm loo
