  2. I'm sorry if this offends, but I have to be blunt here: Anyone who thinks that any conventional weapons would have mattered a hill of beans by the 24 hour mark after the Cold War went hot is f**king delusional. The conventional wisdom at the time (I was there, and I remember it) was that if the Cold War went hot, it would go nuclear in a matter of hours, and that that would be a civilization-ending, "the living will envy the dead"-level event. I see no reason to believe that contrary opinions are anything other than historical revisionism, and revisionism through some very unrealistic, rose-
  3. Are those carrier pictures from the deck of the Liaoning? If so, I'm impressed. They're making fast progress.
  4. Heeeeeeeey sexy laaaaady...
  5. Limiting my thinking to the experience that tells me that building the world's tallest building may be something you want to take a little bit of time with, and make sure you get right. Also:
  6. The 2,479 foot building - set to be the tallest in the world - will be built in just 90 days in the city of Changsha: http://gizmodo.com/5962070/china-will-build-the-tallest-building-in-the-world-in-just-90-days What could possibly go wrong?
  7. Between this and the Petraeus story, it seems we just can't keep dongs out of the news this week.
  8. Stoners just can't win. They get pot legalized in two states, and the next week Twinkies go out of business.

  10. In case nobody mentioned it, it seems Broadwell's husband sent a littler in to the New York Times's version of Dear Abby. No, I'm not kidding: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/15/magazine/a-message-from-beyond.html?_r=2& My wife is having an affair with a government executive. His role is to manage a project whose progress is seen worldwide as a demonstration of American leadership. (This might seem hyperbolic, but it is not an exaggeration.) I have met with him on several occasions, and he has been gracious. (I doubt if he is aware of my knowledge.) I have watched the affair intensify ove
  11. OK, so is there anybody in the national security apparatus of the United States who wasn't screwing Paula Broadwell?

  13. It would have gone nuclear in under 12 hours and all the conventional weapons on both sides wouldn't have mattered a bit.
  14. Because it was reported on in a highly-respected tech website: http://www.theverge.com/2012/11/9/3625890/cia-director-petraeus-resigns-in-scandal-was-gmail-his-undoing
  15. Of what's being reported so far, it's the most troubling part. OK, so Petraeus got his d**k wet someplace he shouldn't. Big whoop. Sucks if you're his wife; basically irrelevant otherwise. The fact that the Director of the CIA doesn't know enough about how to keep important s**t secret that he got caught in a career-ending scandal because he conducted incriminating business over an insecure GMail account is a very bad sign indeed.
  16. So, let me get this straight: the Director of the f***ing CIA – the agency we have around in order to do secret s**t – had to resign after he was found out because he was dumb enough to do stuff he really wanted to keep secret on f***ing GMail, and it got hacked? Man oh man... does not sound so smart, I gotta tell ya.
