  1. That's one period I've not looked into much and I don't know when exactly they got the first turret other than some time first half of the 1980s, possibly as late as around 1983 but definitely by 1984. By at least early 1983 though they were already in that transitional period of low viz grey tail markings and still in overall LGG/white, but also by mid 1983 they were seen in full TPS scheme (and no turrets, at least not on all a/c yet if there were some?) Refer to their 1984 Saratoga deployment workups in 1983, low viz and AA tail codes. For the 1984 Sara cruise they appear with (white) TRAM
  2. Bringing this thread back up as the 1/72 sheet was sold out for a while but it's now been reprinted and is available again. Other than printed instructions having some tweaks, the sheet itself is the same: https://aoadecals.com/72006/ (the original printing of 1/144 is still available https://www.aoadecals.com/14401
  3. Meant to mention - the mission marking bombs are printed the same color as the numbers/letters.
  4. I can't give an unbiased opinion as they're my sheets, but to be honest the darkest grey (the 533 markings) did end up printing lighter than I intended on that 1/72 sheet - and similarly the VA-65 markings on another 1/72 sheet (but wasn't issue on the 1/48 and 1/32 versions). I don't have that Italeri kit/sheet to directly compare the darkness/lightness of the greys on the sheet to the AOA one, and I'm not sure of the opaqueness of the kit decals? The AOA sheet is printed by Microscale and shouldn't have any issues for opaqueness or application (Microsol/Microset should do).
  5. I'm late to your post but to echo what the others have said, that's a fantastic build and paint/weathering.
  6. Another alternative for ED-403 (and 410):
  7. He posted in Sept: "Things are slowing down. What’s happening? Mark Tutton is working on three 1/32nd and two 1/48 AH-1G decal sheets for the ICM/Special Hobby kits." With that many in the works, doubt I'll bother releasing my own.
  8. At the time, I never planned one day I'd make decals so I wasn't intentionally getting pics of all sides of all airframes and unfortunately the only pics of 03's left side I took were partial views, thankfully due to taking loads of pics in general. Here's another right side of 03 that wasn't included: Here's another one from a different day:
  9. Thanks - hope to see some completed builds Had planned on it since the Vietnam AH-1G is a favorite but unfortunately I still haven't had the time to get to them like I had hoped to, not sure if/when I'll do them at this point. As I recall though, Floyd/Werner Wings already announced I thought that he's releasing sheets for the Cobra.
  10. The 1/35 Seahawk family sheets are now available. https://www.aoadecals.com/
  11. Here's a USN example, rear wall here too looks (to me) to be a dark grey metallic. Also unlike the pics above of Army/USCG, for Navy the work platform interior is (usually) green/yellow, this specific one below including the front support edges, others like the second/third pics instead with black there.
  12. As you probably figured out by now, that artwork isn't accurate with the gun pods (or the VMFA-122 markings), the three pods should be HIPEGs. I believe in the same book, or one of the other older SS F-4 books, there is a photo caption that also mentions SUU pod when it's clearly a HIPEG in the photo. Although troublesome, use of the HIPEG was common enough with USMC F-4 and A-4 squadrons in Vietnam, also OV-10s. VMFA-122 only wired a handful of F-4Bs to use the guns on the wing pylons, I don't remember the number now offhand but as I recall too it wasn't used for that long in that configurati
  13. I wonder why the MH-53E gets the re-release attention instead. I too wish they would repop the CH-53E instead. Similarly, the early H-46 series too while they're at.
  14. Finally got around to completing this USN H-60 release, and it expanded greatly since starting last summer before being put on hold - will be two large releases plus full airframe data/stencil sheet. They're at the printers now so looking at a Q4 2022 release. Part 1 (AOA 35-003) covers the SH-60B, SH-60F, HH-60H, and MH-60R: SH-60B: HSL-43 Battle Cats (2011) HSL-48 Vipers (2013) HSL-51 Warlords (2011) SH-60F: HS-5 Nightdippers (2012) HS-11 Dragonslayers (2015) HH-60H: HS-5 Nightdippers (2012) HS-11 Dragonslayers (2015) MH-60R: HSM-46 Gran
  15. As title says, is Crossdelta still in business? Looking for their "old" 1/48 F-16C stiffeners, not sure if should give up waiting for restocks. thanks
  16. Oops try this http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/books-plans/aircraft-pictorial/06-F4BN/Book Review_F4BNPhantomII.htm
  17. As others said, it depends on when/where. Here's some examples of the different CAUTION colors (and difference style of data markings) for upper surfaces. For these three cases, warning colors were all red (red WARNING and red text). edit: there are exceptions of course, and the below isn't meant to be an "all" statement that every a/c followed this color or stencil after first repaint (also seen examples showing red WARNING but with black text). An original McD factory data (this would be as provided by fundekals), cautions are all black: A depot repa
  18. If applicable, airframe data stencils would've been applied during the depot repaint, not added later on at squadron level. That particular 153009 airframe and time period you're asking for it had very minimal airframe data stencils. Here's a scan from the Classic Warships F-4B/N book review on modelwarships showing better views of 3009 at the same period (1971). In the full size book it's more clear, you can only see only a very few were applied, like the caution at the wing fold for example: http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/books-plans/aircraft-pictorial/06-F4BN/CWF4B_N_0007.jp
  19. For T-45s just look at the tail codes to tell where they're from. T-45s are only based at three air stations (plus flight test at Pax River MD): NAS Meridian MS - A NAS Kingsville TX - B NAS Pensacola FL - F So you'll want to look for any with a B on the tail. There are none stationed at NAS Corpus Christi, but you'll see them there in/out (and at other areas in the US, both military and civilian airports doing training).
  20. The three OV-10A sheets are now in stock and available at https://www.aoadecals.com/
  21. Not sure about USN but there's some Desert Storm pics showing LAU-10 5" rocket pods on TERs that I can't find right now, from VMA(AW)-224 I believe. Realize we're talking A-6E, but for general info to show some TERs on A-6, here's some on A-6As, similarly primarily used for rocket pods like in the first/second pic but also the occasional bomb load in third pic:
  22. I don't have a F-100 kit anymore to size it out but if you have the Techmod 6" sheet or any sheet with 6" USAF letters, you can check the math width layout/size of them and compare to that kit area and see if it matches in size to the specific airframe you're looking to model. Or just measure the height of that little kinked corner height of the rudder compared to 1/48 scale 5" or 6" numbers (0.1042" or 0.125" respectively) and see how it compared to the sizing of the 1/1 pic between the heights of the kink and the numbers. Although the TO says 5" for F-100, 6" was common for that "USAF xxxx"
  23. No specific date other than Q1 2022 as stated. They're at Cartograf for printing and could be anywhere from 1-3+ months.
  24. Here's the official sizes per the TO (real life may differ):
  25. Not that I'm aware or seen that I recall, these were all FAC types, no special roles like the O-2B or anything.
