  1. Good Morning, Sorry but I only have time for a "mini" update today. I had company over the weekend so bench time was about zero. I did however manager to get the wings on which I'm pretty happy about: In getting them level, it left a small gap at the top. I was able to fill that gap quite nicely with some small strip stryene. Once I sand it down, it should be pretty smooth hopefully. Please excuse the inverted Monogram B-52 fuselage again. I should really move that for photos. More pics and a real update soon. As always, thanks
  2. Thats awesome Kursad. Thanks! Can I send you the ANG photos I have? They are high-res from color 35mm slides. -Derek
  3. Since the 1/144 Roden Convair CV-340 is now out (or about to be out), how about some spiffy ANG C-131B/D decals? I have a good number of high-res photos to share if you need/want them for reference ๐Ÿ™‚ -Derek
  4. Yes. Iโ€™ll be putting it on a clear plastic stand. Check out my recent 1/144 KC-97L finished build to see what it will look like. -Derek
  5. Hi, I managed to get in a little work done on my C-133 the past few days. I glued the main gear doors closed and the fit was so-so. I filled in the gaps and then I glued the sponsons to the fuselage. I'm happy to report they fit perfectly. I won't need to use any filler. Here's a shot of the belly, I need to re-scribe the doors next: Once those had dried, I glued on the horizontal stabilizers. With a little care, they fit very well also: While that was set aside to dry I turned my attention to t
  6. Hi Jon, I've worked on mine a bit not too long ago and put it back in the box recently... ๐Ÿ˜ž The fit of fuselage is okay but be prepared to spend a lot of time on getting the intake ring in the nose smoothed out. I also had trouble getting the cockpit and instrument panel lined up correctly. The trailing edges of the wings are very thin, you might want to use super glue on them. Normal liquid cement might be too hot and will melt and distort them. I squared off the main gear wheel wells and added some material to the doors to square them up - the main gear
  7. Thanks Trojan Thunder. Here are some more photos of my progress. I wanted the bomb bay open as I mentioned and as you may or may not know, the Monogram bomb bay isn't very well detailed at all. There is a plate with bomb shapes molded onto it. That is it! This was the cover for the compartment that held the noise making gadgets in the original issue. So that had to go. I found a few photos of the bomb bay in books and on line but the best photo I had was a 35mm print I took at Davis-Monthan AFB way back in 1988. Back then you could get off the tour bus and walk a
  8. Hello All, Here's another in-progress thread I'm starting for a sort of stalled build. This was a request a couple of you posted in my 1/144 C-133 thread. This is the classic 1/72 Monogram B-52 kit. This kit is one of the first models I remember building as a kid. I was probably around 12 and I'm pretty sure I had the 1977 boxing. That model is long gone, the only thing left are the memories ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, a few months ago I saw one for sale on Craigslist for $20. I couldn't pass it up as these kits seem to sell for a lot on eBay. It was still sealed but really beat u
  9. John, Did you ever find these decals? If not, I think I might have them. Shoot me a PM. -Derek
  10. Thanks Jonah. Yes, that is my stalled 1/72 Monogram B-52E build. I have already scratch built the bomb bay to put two shapeways 3D printed B53 nukes inside. The nukes are done, I just need to scratch up the bomb bay mounts and I can glue them in place. Itโ€™s going to be hanging, wheels up, over my work bench. I have a couple of PJ Products pilots in the cockpit and a Monogram pilot to man the tail guns. It is stalled due to the amount of filling and sanding on the engine pods and closed landing gear doors โ˜น๏ธ I can post some photos of it in a new โ€œin progressโ€ thre
  11. I think I might have a photo or two of this bird in the boneyard at D-M in 1988. Iโ€™ll check when I get home in a couple of days and let you know. -Derek
  12. Thanks viper. I will try this and let you know how it goes. My bill is about $185 and I too have a mid level package, nothing fancy. -Derek
  13. How the heck did you manage that?! Any pointers would be appreciated so I can so the same with my bloated Directv bill! -Derek
  14. Hello Again, I hope all my fellow U.S. modelers had a Happy 4th yesterday. I was able to get some more work done on my C-133. Upon removing the tape from the now dry fuselage halves, the seams looked pretty good for the most post. The belly requited a little putty in a few spots but not much. The only really bad spot was the large wing box area on the top of the fuselage. Perhaps this was operator error, I am not sure. There was a step there that required some putty to even things out. Once that was sanded down, I used a coat of super glue (sanded down of course)
  15. Nice looking Deuce! Thanks for posting this build, you donโ€™t ever see this scheme. -Derek
  16. Thanks for the kind words gents. I am really looking forward to using these decals. The hardest part will be deciding which a/c to model! ๐Ÿ˜„ -Derek
  17. Sweet build! Love the interior details. -Derek
  18. Here's another update on my C-133 build. Earlier today, I glued in the clear "cheek" cockpit windows and the nose gear doors in the closed position. They fit very well closed with just a bit of sanding. I then decided to go ahead and glue the fuselage halves together this afternoon when I got home from work. Once the glue is dry, I will dress the seams and then glue the two rear cargo ramps/doors in place. I elected to leave off all the clear round widow pieces. I will fill these in with Krystal Klear after everything is painted. The Caracal Models decal sheet does
  19. Hi, I decided to post a quick and dirty in box review here: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/hyperscale/new-1-35-I am a spammer, please report this post.-hercules-kit-in-box-review-t506685.html -Derek
  20. My kit arrived from Hong Kong yesterday and it looks superb in the box. Would anyone care to see some sprue shots and/or pictures of the instructions? One funny thing is that it is molded in dark green plastic, similar to the ancient Revell kit ๐Ÿ™‚ -Derek
  21. Good Morning, Just a quick update before I'm off to work. I decided to glue the tail section to each respective fuselage half. The fit was pretty good. I added a couple of scrap plastic strips to reinforce the joint inside which is probably unnecessary, but there you go. I am also currently filing and sanding the seams on the engine nacelles. I'll re-scribe the lost panel lines there before I glue them to the wings. I did glue the crew entry door closed on the starboard fuselage half. The fit was pretty good with only a bit of sanding required.
  22. Hello, Well after receiving my spectacular looking Caracal Models C-133 decal sheet in the mail Friday, I figured it was time to get started on my kit (perhaps can finish it before the Caracal C-124 sheet arrives!). Today started with the assembly of the wings and horizontal stabs. I also just glued together all four engine nacelles and I see some filing and sanding tomorrow morning ๐Ÿ™‚ I had to open up the small intake in the top of the nacelles with a sharp X-Acto blade as they were completely flashed over. Hopefully some putty, sandpaper, and needle fi
  23. Happy Friday! My C-133 decals arrived today! They look wonderful as always, thank you Kursad๐Ÿ˜€ -Derek
  24. Well I think a 1/32 F-105D sheet would be best, the NJ ANG "B" option could be sort of like a bonus option... Although, didn't the 4th TFW with the large Indian head on the nose use both "B" and "D" models? -Derek
  25. Hi Kursad, Have you ever considered doing a 1/32 F-105B/D Thud sheet? I'd think there are any 1/32 F-105B decals out there (OOP Cutting Edge Thunderbird markings excepted) and I am about to start my F-105B conversion of the Trumpeter kit ๐Ÿ™‚ The majority of the sheet could be post-war "D" birds as that would be much more popular option of course than the "B" model. I'm using a resin conversion kit for the "B" so I hope you could at least include a ship from the 141st TFS NJ ANG. Here is the one I plan on doing, F-105B 57-5789 (my own low-res slide scans):
