  1. am at work now but off the top of my head I think they are all recessed (the one I have cut out on the wing definately is...... as are the access panels on the cockpit outsides (also being cut)... seems to be some panels missing - 2 behind the cockpit above the wing and the air brake - does anyone know if these are later additions to the airframe or standard on all versions (will have to check my refs at home of course)
  2. morning guys.... just a small update showing a part-painted seat (plus ruler) so you can see how I am progressing... also started to see what I can do with the tup - bit of hacking to make it more "spacious" (the behind the front-seat area is just a block where it should be less blocky and have some wires - you can just see it in the closed-up kit so going to do some work on it.......)
  3. four seats done & dusted - now just need to paint 'em.... looking at the cockpit tub and comparing it to the Kinetic 1:48th I dont think I can do much with the base... will look at the rear bulhead and the two I/P (provided as decals but maybe I can put some bumps on instead (perhaps over the top of the decal???) started on the Garret aux. power fan housing now for a bit of variety... panel cut and need to thin the underside wing half to make "room" for the fan (wont be quite deep enough) which will be kindly donated from one of the underwing pods which wont be used (not sure if I will pu
  4. just looked at this thread as I am awiating the same kit in the post....... adding it to my USN (albeit tenuously with the P variant) collection
  5. first seat construction done (as well as I will manage).... as this is the prototype its a little rough - rest are neater (and progressing slowly).... not a lot to see as it is all grey/white - hopefully it will look better when painted
  6. no - this one gets blasted when i need to try something paint wise... it is dead (for now)
  7. cheers Holmes... moving on to 2nd seat (and maybe 3rd & 4th if i do them in parallel) over the weekend... then will tackle that pesky tub
  8. first attempt with the seat (it is 1cm deep, 6mm wide - so macro lens shows stuff you cant see with the naked eye ;-) 0 thats my excuse and am sticking to it)..... things i like 1) wiring, neat, held in place with a metal plate (thats what it looks like on the photos anyway) 2) head rest - little bit of plasti-card detail, a small hint of the material element behind the head rest (will be painted to stand out of course) 3) seats - while untidy at least they have a pattern to match the original what i dont like 1) non-wired side.... may have to look at adding a little detail on it 2) the
  9. started work on seat number 1... not 100% accurate but it looks less generic than it did to start with. first 2 photos compare in-box with my adaptations last photo compares my adaptations with the Tomcat GRU 7 seat (willc orrect the overhead handle to match the GRU7EA version but apparently the rest is OK (and in 1/72 you wont notice anyway ;-)) anyway - there is still a lot to do to tidy it up, add wiring etc but it is a start
  10. photos.... usual suspects plus some with words on to show what I am thinking.... starting with the seats and cockpit - will see what that comes out like (may opt for resin seats @ &2 a pop if it fails too badly)
  11. so following on - nose is only removed for major work..... my thoughts in the build i have planned: 1) 1 or both cheek panels open 2) 1 (are there 2) panel open behind the cockpit - seem sthe model I have (old Hase) doesnt have panel lines for this - is this a newer adaptation or standard on all Prowlers 3) drop down unit (center line) open - seen photos of only 1 box in it,guess for all other units to be taken out that wuld be amjor overhaul? 4) Aux power supply popped up on the port wing root 5) wing-fold access panel open (not got a decent photo of that and again kit s=deosnt seem to h
  12. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm is the best I can come up with for the OOB acrylic paints.... the light blue tail sprayed quite well so then thought I would do the underside grey.... not sure what happened but the A/B was pushing air but no paint coming ouit... thorough clean of the A/B and still doing the same... re-cleaned and at last a bit of paint... but the finish is attrocious...... so anyway, going to hairy-stick the upper surface and then redo the lower (assuming I have enough of the damn paint left).... this has put me off acrylic (and yes i had thinned it (with water admittedly)) so will be stocking
  13. would've put photos up today but left my CF card reader at home... pics tonight.....
  14. saw that - also saw the comment that it was copied (or part copied) from verlinden.... but will go have a look anyway... what a bout seats only - are there any differences GRU-7 from the F-14 vs the EA-6B (pavla have seast for the F-14 for example) EDIT - going to look at scracthing the seats as I did with the T-1A... enjoyed that and picked up some tips... should be able to do hat with pictures... then the cockpit as well.... so maybe I dont need AM after all ;-)
  15. Guys, what after market can I look for on the hasegawa 1/72 Prowler (not sure exactly which kit). I know there is the Eduard PE and the Wolfpack wingfold but anything else (tonnes of decals too I guess but that can wait for now). i think the main area I am interested in are seats/cockpit (resin options as am too ham-fisted for PE (after trying it on the F/A-18C I built) cheers all Rob
  16. place holder for my next build... the old EA-6B from Hasegawa.... going top open a few panels and add a but more detail to the cockpit... exact extent of the scratch will be seen once I start working onm this in earnest but thinking 1) one of the 2 avionics bays (maybe both) 2) one of the 2 bays behind the cockpit (maybe both) 3) the APSU on the port wing root 4) cockpit 5) underside drop down electronics bay 6) wheel wells 7) arrester hook & chaff/flare housings - left open on the kit extras I am contemplating 1) wing-fold access hatch (ie not folding the wings but there is a mai
  17. primer on (just, ran out of the humbrol enamel I use but managed to get all but the pylons done...) so on to main painting. Going to use the box-supplied little blue pot for the tail, its acrylic - something I have never airbrsuhed before - so not sure how well I will do, but its only a small area. If that goes on ok then I will use the box-supplied acrylics for the fuselage too, if not I will have to go get MM enamael versions......
  18. Holmes - its already comeplete AND you commented on the completed build ;-) http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=230633&st=0&p=2199172&hl=dragonfly&fromsearch=1entry2199172
  19. looking good...s till the best kit i have finished (for now anyway)..... you havent opened the center-line holes up - is this deliberate? anyway ... the effort is worth it in the end
  20. nice cockpit work... shows the 1/72 version isnt far off..... looking forward to seeing more of this...
  21. the fit is not perfect but it isnt horrendous.... worse culprits 1) nose->fuselage (filled & sanded) 2) wings - one of theundersides had a 1mm gap where the flaps are - again filled (badly) and sanded 3) air-brake (?) - seems to fit on whe nopen but not closed.... left it as is or i would lose the raised detail but I am pleasantly suprised (dont know why, guess a perception that airfix = bad fit) that this build is progressing so well... lets see what paint does to it (apart from showing up more flaws) oh yeah - and canopy - seems to be slightly too wide so wil have to be held in p
  22. progress made... airframe all done and awaiting primer.... canopy been kleared - waiting for that to dry (tomorrow) to mask and glue onto airframe...... then its painting time.... actually like the look of it on the stand..... maybe more will be mounted
  23. photos to show current progress....
  24. still owe you guys some photos but more progress.... cockpit done, fuselage buttoned up (going to fix the nozzles and tail in place so not using the plug thnigies to allow them to move)... was pleasantly suprised by the lack of gaps in the fuselage - yes there will need to be some filling/saniding but after the wings I was expecting a lot more - and dry fitting of the wings only shows one gap (under the LERX) so that again is a nice bonus...... photos soon I promise
