  1. Thanks ikar! I'll probably drop by! Another quick question. My finishes with matte sprays tend to have a very "dusty" finish. How do I make it smooth?
  2. You guys know of any modeling clubs around Orlando? Had some frustrations with filling, sanding, and painting. I've got a nose section that looks aligned on one side, but the other side looks completely mis-aligned. I'm also using brushes to start off with and I can't seem to get all the enamel paint to come off the brush using thinner and is the paint supposed to be very "runny"?
  3. Trying to start this model again after months of sitting in the garage. It'd be great to hear any tips!
  4. Didn't have much time for this build. Everything in the picture will be included minus the ping pong table lol. (Squadron white putty, testors model glue, glue tips, testors sanding paper etc). Some parts have been painted, but can easily be removed. Hinge on payload bay door broke off. Asking $50. I'll pay for S&H.
  5. Update: Just cleaned off the botched paint using Easy-Off. A bit more optimistic. Just had a few questions: 1. Is there a way to separate the liquid plastic cement-glued halves? 2. When using a brush my enamel paints are very watercolor-like and they run when applied to the plastic surface. Any way around that? 3. Had an oopsie with the spraying and forgot that I masked off an area incorrectly. How would I even this out? (the raised line going horizontally across)
  6. I'm located in Orlando, FL. The hobby shop that I get most of my stuff at is comprised mostly of train modelers. Do you use sanding paper dry or wet? I dry sand it first then I tried wet What do you use for paint demarcation? I used Tamiya masking tape How do you apply paint? Testor's spray cans =\ for the smaller areas I brush the paint on Did you use any primer before painting? No I don't use any primer Did you let putty/paint to dry properly? Yeah. This project has been going on for about 3 weeks with several days off. Working on it out in my hot steamy Florida garage. Bigges
  7. I've already invested about $140 starting up in this hobby and i'm just ending up disappointed in the results i'm getting from all this tedious work. Just wanted to see what you pros thought I could do better before I give up and try to sell it. My biggest problem at the moment is the puttying/sanding/painting. Here are a couple of pics: I can't get straight lines painting, I can't get a smooth texture sanding, and the paint/putty is going on too thick to see the finer details. I think I also put too much putty. Any way to resurrect this? Used: Squadron White putty Testor's spra

Is there a way to make the model's surface appear "smoother" using only a brush to paint? I've got brush stroke lines all over.
  9. first of all thanks for the great advice! ya'll are very welcoming but oh my heck $62 worth of paints and brushes/$30 model/$25 worth of above list. Wasn't expecting to drop this much "change". I bought a can of Tamiya gunmetal paint and sprayed it on only to find that it bubbles up/is very 'wet'/and gives me an uneven finish. I figured it was because I just left the model out there in the garage even AFTER soaking it in salt water. I'm gonna try using Pine Sol to remove the paint and maybe start over, but my honest feeling is that I should return most of this stuff before I get disappoint
  10. I've read a few articles on here and have a small grasp on what I need to get started. I really wanted to build the 1:200 Hasewaga Space Shuttle. Is that too much of a curve to start off with? This is my shopping list: -starter model -cheap but effective airbrush...any recommendations? (anything good less than $60?) -liquid cement/super glue/glue tips -testors or 3m masking tape -assorted brushes -x acto knife -paint should that be it for now? and.. is there really a need for primer? i know most of you probably have huge workbenches with loads of tools/paints etc. but i just wanna t
