  1. I don't know why you would think that. It's a fairly common business model. It's used for everything from sports stadiums with limited seating to collectables with small runs of products. Heck, it's even used in some real estate projects. It's used all over the business world. If the consumer knows there's no chance on missing out, there's no incentive to buy now. I have customers that were pretty upset that I had sold out of my voodoo colour scheme markings, even though, in some cases they waited almost a year before trying to order them. But now those same customers know my stuff doesn't
  2. Supply and demand. When a decal provider invests potentially a grand or more on decals, they (usually) want to recoup that investment as quickly as possible. If a customer knows they can buy a set of decals a year from now, there's no incentive for them to buy them now. Which means it can take the decal producer much longer to recover investment or make a profit. Keep the supply low and limited, and you drive the incentive to purchase now. Add to that there are always new products to invest in that will drive more revenue than rehashing old stuff that your core customer base likely already
  3. Just found out today that the 10th annual HeritageCon model show, in Hamilton Ontario, is scheduled for March 20th, 2016 http://www.ipmshamilton.ca/default.aspx?pg=f5656173-a3c1-4635-ac3c-b589f2cba25a
  4. Hi Everyone. I'm happy to announce that Canuck Model's has reached an agreement with Harbour Air / West Coast Air, operating out of Victoria BC, to produce a set of decals for their fleet of DHC-6 Twin Otters. These schemes (shown in attached photos) are produced with the airline's permission and will be based off of original art assets that have been provided by them as well. This will also be Canuck's first civilian subject decal set and will be intended to fit the Revell (Matchbox) kit. Our thanks go out to Harbour Air, and more information will be made available in the next few weeks o
  5. Hi Chuck. I know you mentioned this yourself in another thread, but the thought of what would be involved in trying to get your builds through customs without damage is horrifying. I just can't see how you would do that. I've only taken my, incredibly mediocre, builds across the border once as part of a move, and the border agent in Maine insisted on "inspecting" (read handling) each one out of their packing. You know, because there just might have been cocaine stuffed into the intakes or something!
  6. I had planned to take Canuck Models to the US Nationals and I booked a table in February. It's only a 6 or 7 hour drive from my place, so about the same as it is for me to get to the Ottawa show in September. But here's why I pulled the plug. Back in April, when I was really starting to plan this trip, I drove down to a US border station and asked what is involved, paperwork wise, to bring my products into the US for the show. Well, not only did the guy at the desk have no clue (it seemed) as to what the process was, but then he went so far as to say that if I tried to "smuggle my items into
  7. Hello Everyone. I'm happy to announce that Canuck is now accepting pre-orders for the 1:72 scale CF-18 Battle of Britain scheme hobby kit. The sea shipment out of Korea is due to leave for Canada this week. I'm expecting to have plastics in hand come the 2nd or 3rd week of August and be shipping to customers shortly after that. Please note, All orders that include this kit will be shipped once the kit is in stock. If you want additional items without the wait, it's better to place two orders. Otherwise you'll get everything together at once later on. There is a dialog box on the pre-order b
  8. Canada flies A++ model Hornets with bird slicers. Has for quite a while now.
  9. Hi Hitch Thanks for the kinds words. Glad you like the products. I have a 1:48 scale version of those CF-104 markings coming out later in the year. Just an FYI though, it's Canuck ... with a c :) Always good to have feedback. thanks David
  10. I thought the show got better once Maj Burns was gone and Houlihan got on side with Pierce and Hunnicutt. The one episode that does sort of stand out was the one where Radar was mailing home a jeep, one part at a time.
  11. That looks great. I've always considered that one of Revell's nicer 'home grown' kits.
  12. There's another thread in the Jets section with photos for those that don't have facebook... http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=285913 Also, because I've already had some questions via email and my facebook page, I'll post this here; Once I get some plastics in my hands, I'll look at updating the CF-18 demo sheets. The artwork for the tails and false canopies are fit sensitive and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that there are significant differences between the shape of these tails and gear wells as compared to the Hasegawa kits. So when the time comes sometime next year,
  13. Its "primary role" was nuclear strike, but really, it was just a mud mover fitted mostly with conventional bombs. They were never even wired for air-2-air missiles, which, considering the aircraft was designed first and foremost to be an interceptor, that was pretty silly. For what Canada was doing with it, I don't understand why we were not using F-4's like everyone else. Heck, F-4's would have done the job of both the Starfighter AND the Voodoo.
  14. Of the 238 CF-104's that flew with the RCAF/CAF 112 were lost with 37 Fatalities* Given the (rather silly) role the CF-104 was put in I'm not sure if that's a high number or not. *CF-104 Starfighter in Profile: Robert McIntyre
  15. A full refund for a poor fitting kit? I'd have a lot of free kits...
  16. Yes, this dude really just suggested coffee grounds be recycled and used in your garden. Can't believe the dude that asked that seems to have never heard of this before. Yes, obviously they'll break down in a landfill, but they're not doing any good there. Putting them in a garden or compost actually does something useful. Wow.. can't even believe I had to explain that.
  17. Of course they left when the Canadian's did, it was there for the Canadians! As far as charging, a cup of coffee at Timmies is about a buck. Really not a big deal. And if memory serves, the people on duty got their coffee from Tim's for free anyway. It was the men and women off duty that paid.
  18. Just update your flash player https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ [edit]. On this page you're given an option to install McAfee Software. Personally, I never, ever, install anything by McAfee. Their software is a bigger problem than the virus' it's meant to protect you from.
  19. Firefox disabled a specific version of flash. Just update flash and it will work again just fine. There are reports that only 11% of websites use flash. This is a bogus claim put out by Apple a couple of years ago when they were trying to kill flash then. It's simply a completely inaccurate claim. Heck, CNN reported this story, along with the 11% claim, yet the videos on their own pages are all Flash based. Just about every website I use on a daily basis use flash in someway shape or form. Flash is still the #1 development tool for website hosted games. It's not used all that much by large s
  20. Tim Hortons not only sends coffee to troops, but they have a complete mobile coffee shop they send out there...
  21. You don't throw away the grounds. They go in the garden as fertilizer. If you don't have a garden (living in an apartment building or something), many local green spaces will take your grounds off your hands. I guess I have to agree with others, I understand the desire to often just want to make one cup of coffee, but the one-and-done plastic Keruig cups are an environmental disaster. Yes, I understand that there are ways to hack around the restrictions the company has put on the machine so that they can sell more disposable cups, but they shouldn't be selling little disposable cups in the fi
  22. I stopped using official Chrome when they killed off the original New Tab Page. Then, to make matters worse, they disabled the ability for me to run my own extensions off of my own computer. Now, you MUST upload your extensions to the Chrome store for them to work. Which is ridiculous; I wrote this extension for my own use, it's not for public consumption, so why can't I use it? Because Google doesn't think it's safe for me.
