As shown at Moson the extra parts proposed for the Special Limited Edition. I am “not sure” about period authenticity of the ZS-5 pilots helmet together with KM-34 oxygen mask. Both of them are more appropriate for say a MiG-21 all the way to MiG-29 or Su-27. It is possible that in the past few decades somewhere in the world this helmet version was used someone flying in a retro MiG-17, but in the 1950’s and 60’s it is highly unlikely since both of them simply did not exist back then! It is like expecting to have an IPhone in the hand of someone in say 1966 (or even 1996)!

All MiG-17s that flew in the GDR in the late 1970s/early 1980s were flown only with leather caps, although the helmets existed of course and were used on the other types. A pilot told me at the time, when I asked about this, that the cabin was simply too narrow, especially for taller pilots. At least it was uncomfortable.

  2. The Accurate kit is still worth building. With the great marking options and PE parts, you certainly can't go wrong.
    Except:
The spinner definitely needs to be replaced, it's wrong and destroys the distinctive silhouette. I once read somewhere that AM measured the IL-2 in the Prague Museum Kbely - and it has an Il-10 spinner. Too bad that Eduard did not include one.

  3. We knew that Trumpeter is a synonym for excellent research. Only because of this could they succeed in making this find in the depths of the archives. It was also hard to imagine that the biggest disadvantage of the Dauntless was not solved after all.  (even if it was 80 years later in China)

    *Irony off*

  4. a couple of notes:
    1. There is no such thing as THE Warpac shelter, many countries have made modifications. The mentioned (very recommendable)
cardboard kit provides e.g. a Polish shelter with completely different gates than in other countries.
    2. On the picture of the ebay seller you can see self-made gates and numerous other modifications.
    3. How do I know? I built it, the picture was stolen by the seller ....😡
  5. I would roughen a shiny surface a little so that it adheres better. If that doesn't work mechanically (sandstick or -paper), also with some primer or something. (although to be honest, it is not so clear to me where you have high-gloss surfaces in the cockpit ...)

I also attached a part (MiG-29 1/48) with superglue, of course that works too, but you have to be very careful.

  6. There are German stencils here: https://www.tailormadedecals.com/decals/jets/mig-21/airworld-15/luftstreikraefte-der-nva/mig-21-nva-wartungsbeschriftung-981-wasserschiebebilder.html?language=de

Ok, the price..:woot.gif:.  Edit: Scale is 1:9...

NVA airforce got some MiG-21, obviously originally planned for Arab countries (Syria?). All stencils and documentation was english.

  7. Real Colors of WWII Aircraft (AK Publishing) says:

"The Initial finish of the first serial-produced Bf 109s that reached Spain, i.e. the 14 Bf 109As coded 6-3 through 6-16, is still a matter of numerous discussions between the researchers. This author tends to agree with Lynn Ritger, who proposed a silver (with some parts left in bare metal as can be seen on photos of 6-7) overall colouring. David Johnston cites a S/88 document from January 1938, which mentions a silberweiß (silver-white) camouflage colour, and Lt. Josef Föröz description of his Bf 109A coded 6-16's finish being silver-grey. What is certain is that some kind of coating had been applied, as some photos reveal damages to the paint layer, down to bare metal. Worth nothing is the very smooth finish of "Antons", the panel lines were apparently taped over (AF Editores Archive)"

Interesting discussions with lots of pics here: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/hyperscale/early-bf-109-spanish-civil-war-t186474.html
