  1. I always feel as though HL is a hit or miss kind of deal. Sometimes the clearance stuff is nicely priced or they misprice items. I typically go by and look every so often. But, it seems as if over the years their offerings have gotten smaller and smaller!
  2. I would be interested in doing this. Perhaps doing a capture Japanese zero or maybe Frank.
  3. Funny I am on my way to the LHS To see if he got this in. He special ordered it for me. I was not able to find a lot of reference material for this tank. Did you find anything or use any reference pics.
  4. As mentioned above I do like the Mig and AK products for weathering armor. I have tried the Tamiya weathering stuff and was not to impressed. I think you can achieve the same kind of effects with pastels. Though, I have found that with armor designed pigment work better than pastels.
  5. I just think it is funny lingerie and models . . . . . and my wife asking me what am I doing
  6. I got in trouble . . . and this time it was not my fault!!! http://shop.ebay.com/jrfox21/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=200
  7. Yeah, I avoid these things like the plague. I cannot believe people use to fall for the "you won the world lottery . . . now give us $20k so you can get your $50 million." In the past I have screwed with a couple of them, like just make up stuff like for a name Phil McCock and numbers like 076-555-6969. Good times . . .
  8. I went to a midnight showing since the wife had the next day off. I thought it was a pretty decent flick an a nice reboot if you will for future X-men films. I am wanting to see Captain America and hoping it is not a disappointment.
  9. Well we survived the storm though KC, MO is getting hit hard I heard. Thanks for the tips about the shop in Owasso. I will see if I can get the wife to stop when we drive through there.
  10. Storms are about to hit us here in Topeka/Lawrence and looking at the radar will be getting a lot of rain. Wife, the kid, and I are suppose to go to Jenks, OK this weekend . . . . wonder if it will be done by then. http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/05/24/severe.weather/?hpt=T1
  11. Here is some footage of the aftermath in Joplin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bu7B4FMKIPQ&feature=youtu.be
  12. Here are some pictures of Reading from the online newspaper here in Lawrence: http://www2.ljworld.com/photos/galleries/2011/may/22/tornado-reading-causes-major-damage/ The sirens went off here, but the storm was way to the south.
  13. I think another thing about doing models in general is that as a kid (between 10-14) I did a lot of models with tube glue, rattle canes, and little bottles of testors. As I got older, I just got into other things like sports, after school job, and girls. 20 years later I returned back to the hobby because I remember as a kid how much fun I had making the models I did. I think that many kids enjoy models, out grow them, and then later in life return back to the hobby. But, I also think that video games and other things are more attractive them doing models. I know as a kid I did a kit in l
  14. So if the world ends on Saturday does that mean a) I am not going to get my Panther A or Dinah done by then and because of earthquakes, plagues and that kind of crap; or B I will get to finish the Panther A and Dinah because people are just gonna disappear - and I get to participate in post-rapture looting I
  15. I agree with Toad. I use to beat myself up over what paints to use and if I was getting the right "shade", but found that the Tamiya stuff works great and I can mix it with pretty easily. Its also easy to work with.
  16. I am going to have to check this stuff out. especially if i has a brush
  17. To add what Antonov said, Very few places take debit/credit cards so always carry cash with you. The post office ATMS are the ones that will let you access funds back home, unless you back with CitiBank - which there are CitiBanks in Tokyo, not sure about the rest of the country. And, ATMS stop dispersing money after 9pm. Kawaguchiko is a great place!!! THe onsens are awesome and the view of Mt. Fuji is good as well. If you are in Nagoya area try to go to the Ise Shrine.
  18. I used to live in Tokyo for sometime . . . . besides the model shops there, I got into modeling after I came back to the U.S, here are some places I recommend going to that are probably in most guides. Akihabara "Tokyo Electronic Town" (also called Akiba) -This is the Mecca of manga and animae and have a lot of really cool shops. Asakusa - You can easily take the subway from Akiba to Asakusa so maybe plan them in the same day. Asakusa use to be the happening place to be in the 1920's and 1930's, though most of it was destroyed and rebuilt during WWII. In Asakusa is Sensoji Temple, which
  19. Triarius, Yeah I know what you mean by head scratching. Hence why I been doing some of my own experiments to figure out what will work. I have never used the old Future, just the Pledge w/ Future. I only wished Winston & Newton distilled turpentine was odorless - then I would be okay, as this stuff seems to work the best and isn't an issue with Future or a lacquer finish.
  20. Okay I had brought his up before in a previous post, I think you commented before Shawn and were going to give turpenoid a try, and have tried some other techniques on model scraps: http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=229055&st=0&p=2187758entry2187758 But, when using oils for weathering, mostly on armor I use a different approach for aircraft, I have used both rubbing alcohol and mineral spirits eat through the coats of Future and lacquer, I used two coats of the stuff over Tamiya acrylics. I found that turpenoid did not. I also found that the Winston &a
  21. Collin Looks good here man. Academy does make some decent kits - well at least the recent stuff.
  22. Thanks. The black on the fender is suppose to be a fuel stain from where it was spilled. It actually is darker then it is faded out. for that I used some oil paints first then after that I took some Future and mixed some black pigments and went over where I wanted areas to be darker.
  23. Here are some pics of my final project. I am making a diorama for it, which will be my first. Critiques and suggestions are VERY welcome, as well as baseless praised.
