  1. Nice build . . . I have the Tamiya kit in the stash.
  2. Last night I tried the turpenoid with some oils and I got some good results. Here is a link to what I tried. It did not seem to bother the future or eat it up. On my next build I want to try and see how rubbing alcohol will work with future. http://www.weberart.com/oil_mediums/odorless_turp.html
  3. Shawn, I totally agree. Though I just bought some Turpenoid that is odorless to try out and finally figured out that Future has a new label, which is listed as Pledge, I am going to try them and see what happens. I just find that the Winston and Newton turp just eats through stuff like crazy even with a few coats. I know some people use rubbing alcohol with pigments and I found out real quick that it just ate through the varnish. Any more advice would be appreciated!!!
  4. So lately I have been trying to use a lot of different techniques to see what works best for me and what gives me certain effects. I have also watched a lot of the youtube videos (those by ScaleModelMadman & Scale Model Medic have been helpful) and reading several different forums to learn these techniques. The problem I am having is finding particular thinners and what not to properly work with the pigments or oils I am using to weather. Though I am working mostly with armor now, hopefully I will finally start a Dinah, I find that those here on ARC seem to be more "friendly" then on ot
  5. HL sometimes does have stuff you can pick up if there is not a LHS. I have found that if there is a kit you want there the 40% coupon does make it worth it. I have also benefited from mismarked items - one being a nice airbrush. I do agree it seems as though 2 to 3 years ago they did offer more kits.
  6. The history of Golden Pavilion is rather unique. It hosted many "Vegas Style" Parties. One game included drinking various types of tea and then trying to guess where it came from. If you got it wrong then you had to drink a cup of sake. Can you put up a screen shot of the box it came in so I can see if I can find it online!! THANKS!!!
  7. If you are interested in an awesome WWII strategy game I highly recommend Hearts of Iron II. Though, Hearts of Iron III came out last year I have yet to try it. I love playing a minor countries like Romania. I also like the xpac where you can play alternative perspectives of history.
  8. I also recommending putting 2 or 3 coats over the things to make sure you got it pretty well coated. I was able to solve some of the problems I was having with this Also I really recommend using different types of paint to make your wash and experimenting on scrap pieces. Practicing and try new things on scraps has really helped me a lot.
  9. DropTank, I recommend taking Don's advice, I just run add some food color to some water and shoot it through to practice. Also, check out his website - there is some helpful info there. Though, I don't wan to hijack this thread. But, I have a Iwata HP-C Plus and am using the .3mm needle that comes with it. I honestly don't do a lot of preshading (I really can't tell the difference), but the .3mm needles seems to generate a pretty small line for me - better then what I can get with my Aztek. Does the .2mm needles make that big of a difference? What size needs are others using. THANKS
  10. People have already mentioned this, but when I have had to strip off the Tamiya primer I just used rubbing alcohol ol.
  11. I was okay. But, I think the British show is just so much better!
  12. Hey Zactoman, I just found out have been awarded 5 bizillion dollars from a long lost relative who was a successful business man in Africa. If you can send me a PM with your bank account info and personal info I will make sure you can get this. The processing fee with be about $100,000, but with a bizillion dollars that is chump change.

  14. I think another things is also like being diverse in the kind of products you offer. My LHS probably does more then half of its business by selling cake decorations and other specialty items related to dessert and chocolate making and materials related to Girl and Boy Scouts. The models, trains, and RC cars are just one portion of his business that by themselves would probably not keep him in business very long. I remember in the card and comic shops that opened in the mid 90's and how many of them went out of business because they did not diversify doing something other than just cards an
  15. Can I send you $30 and you send me the Sally - I been wanting that kit!!!
  16. Interesting responses. I think a lot of why I got it at that price though has to deal with the bad attitude that the employee had, who was the assistant manager. I think he might not have been in the best of moods and when I showed him the price he was not happy as he swore pretty loud. If he would of explained to me that it was a mistake and he could not give it to me at that price, trust me I would of been totally fine. But, when he was like put it back or take it I want to close this cabinet and get on with things - I took it. If this was one of the small local Hobby Shops, where I hav
  17. So I was in Hobby Lobby today just checking things out and I wanted to briefly look at the Iwata AB they had because even though I wanted a HP-CS, I been thinking about a Neo because of the cost. So the manager opens the case and I take out one of the HP-CS kits they have and sale for $179, which is way to pricy. However, the one behind it is priced for $26.99 I grab that one look at the box make sure it is okay and then ask the manager if I can get it for that price. He looks at the box then the other one then says, "Well someone F#@$ UP!" I then tell him hey it says that price. I was n
  18. Rodger has talked to me about going to meetings, but I never really have the time. Yeah I really wished Sprue Brothers had a physical store even if it is in Liberty. George's and Hobby Haven are good, but sometimes they are just lacking stuff I need. On another note to this "non-political" discussion of global warming and the snow storm - its clearly a by product of all the tenax fumes that have been released!!! @ Mynameismatt . . . . WOW I thought I had it tough with the 1.5 hours I spent shoveling!!!!
  19. I just can't believe this. Is pretty dang funny though!!!
  20. I actually live in Lawrence and go to KU. I was suppose to go out and visit some of the student teachers I supervise today and tomorrow, but I reschedule them on Monday to later this week and next week.
  21. Well we got 11 inches so far which is the biggest storm here in 20 years. I just had to help my tenants clear their driveway somewhat so they could get their other car in the driveway. I will not be going out again for the next two days . . . . it is miserable out there!
  22. I agree. I mean its a snow storm that is a little more then what we are use to. NOW . . . . its the end of the WORLD!!!
  23. Hey I just hope those who are getting hit by this storm throughout the Midwest and East coast, like myself, stay safe and warm!!!!! Here in the Kansas City area it is coming down pretty good!!!
  24. I hate to say it but yeah spend the couple of bucks and get a new one. Sometimes Hobby Lobby has then on clearance and I picked up a replacement tan and gray for around $5 each.
