  1. For those who have been waiting for Peter and Nigel's publication on the Boxted era of the 56th FG, it is finally available:
    https://ak-interactive.com/product/the-56th-fighter-group-in-world-war-ii-18th-april-1944-to-v-e-day-and-beyond/

    Publisher's blurb:

    English. 244 pages. Hard cover.
This book covers the 56th Fighter Group during the Second World War for the period between the 18th April 1944, when the fighting element arrived at Boxted, and the 8th May 1945 when the war in Europe ended. There is also short account of post-war events leading to the group’s return to the United States and de-activation.
Authors Nigel Julian and Peter Randall, respectively owners of the web sites www.56thfightergroup.co.uk and www.littlefriends.co.uk, have again joined forces to bring you the very latest in the ongoing research relating to this exceptional unit.
The artwork has been selected and used to correct several profiles previously shown incorrectly in other publications, and present new images of P-47 Thunderbolts that have only very recently been identified. In total, the book includes 100 color and 336 b/w period photos, along with 40 color profiles painted by the top aviation artist, Janusz Swiatlon. Both the Razorback and Bubbletop variants of the P-47D are covered, together with the P-47M.
Each limited copy is supplemented with 2 decal sheets printed by Cartograf which contain individual markings for 13 aircraft, in 1/48 and 1/72 scale.
Aircraft selected as subjects for the decals are those either not previously covered by decal manufacturers, or incorrectly presented where they have been.

Illustrations were created by Janusz Swiatlon and Anders Hjortsberg. None of these marking options have previously been reproduced in decal form. Period photos of two of depicted aircraft are included in the instructions. This set is available directly from the manufacturer:

Set no.14 is entitled “Wulf Pack vol.2” and covers three different variants of the famous ‘Butcher Bird’:

    - Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-5, WNr. 2648, ‘Yellow 3’, flown by Lt. Josef Wurmheller, Kapitän of 9./JG 2, Vannes, France, summer 1943.
    - Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8, WNr. 737938, ‘Blue 9’ of 4./JG 301, Germany, spring 1945.
    - Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9, WNr. 210129, ‘Red 9’ of 12./JG 54, Frankfurt am Main area, Germany, spring 1945.

    ed48014_cover5ekdi.jpg

The markings for one of the very few known Fw 190 A-5s with the famous JG 2 eagle design and a rare Fw 190 A-8 carrying the name ‘Steppke’, JG 11 emblem and JG 301 identification band, have never been reproduced in 1/48 or 1/72 scale before, whilst the Fw 190 D-9 with the sparcely seen bright blue band of JG 54 was recently incorrectly identified and depicted by one of the kit manufacturers. Our instruction sheets include several photos of all featured aircraft, some of which you may have never seen before. Illustrations were created by Janusz Swiatlon. This set is available directly from the manufacturer:
    - in 1/48 scale: https://exito.site/en_GB/p/EXITO-DECALS-ED48014-148-Wulf-Pack-vol.2-Fw-190/62565

    - in 1/72 scale: https://exito.site/en_GB/p/EXITO-DECALS-ED72014-172-Wulf-Pack-vol.2-Fw-190/62563

As previously, the decal sheets are printed by industry leader, Cartograf of Italy, which ensures top printing quality and ease of application. These are complemented by instructions that differ from the plain market standard. What you get are essentially high quality posters with accurate and inspiring illustrations. Each subject is presented on an A4-sized sheet, with large side aircraft profiles printed on the front, and the remaining artwork, reference photos and all necessary information laid out on the rear side. This way you not only get some cool decals for your model kit, but also attractive posters to adorn your man cave, at the same time!

Further releases are already in preparation – follow Exito Decals on FB not to miss the latest news: https://www.facebook.com/Exito-Decals

There will not be a 1/72 version of this set, but you will see these two aircraft as options on separate Caracal A-10C and F-16C sheets coming soon.

Thanks for prompt answer, you can count me in for that F-16C set.

  5. Does anybody know who is working on decals for this scheme? It was mentioned in comments on 149th FW Facebook page but without details. If there's a 1/72 sheet in the pipeline, I wouldn't like to miss it.

  6. A tip: those of you who would really like to get these Skyhawks may try to send emails with this proposal to Hobby 2000 who rebox a lot of Hasegawa (and already has a bunch of Fujimi Skyhawks reboxed in 1/72):
    https://hobby2000.pl/index.php?controller=contact
If they see that the demand is considerable, they might be more eager to add these to their release list.

Being mainly interested in aircraft camouflage and markings from the World War II era, I’m always curious about the new additions to the Mushroom/Stratus’ White (Rainbow) Series. That was also the case with the first volume of ‘Yugoslav Fighter Colours 1918-1941’ authored by Ognjan Petrović and Djordje Nikolić, especially as both these names were already known to me: Mr. Petrović had illustrated the truly excellent ‘Messerschmitt Bf 109. The Yugoslav Story’, whilst Mr. Nikolić co-authored valuable publications on the Dornier Do 22 and Rogozarski IK-3. The result of their cooperation is also not disappointing: on 192 pages of Vol.1 we find a plethora of unique information which in most cases is likely available in English for the very first time, accompanied with dozens of photos (in large part of surprisingly good quality) and fairly nicely rendered colour profiles. The aircraft covered in Vol.1 are Nieuport 24 & 27, Spad S.7 & S.13, Albatros D.III Ba.253 (Oef), Phönix D.I & D.II, Aviatik (Berg) D.I, Ansaldo SVA 5, Bristol F.2b Fighter, Dewoitine D.1, D.9 & D.27, Avia BH-33E and Potez 25 A2. In each case we are offered with a short story of the type and its use in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, followed by the description of its camouflage & markings and tables of its basic characteristics. My only complaint would be that the colours are usually specified in a rather general manner, but then it is no surprise that it is very difficult, if not impossible, to determine the exact shades used in that early period of aviation – we can therefore agree with Mr. Petrović’s interpretations presented on the profiles or make own choices on the basis of the textual description. Not to be forgotten are the appendices, which deal with the evolution of markings & insignia in 1918-41 period (illustrated with a number of drawings from the era and several photos), camouflage and colours, unit structures, aviation ranks and abbreviations used. Also included are a reproduction of a pre-war pilot map of the Kingdom and a listing of all fighter aircraft types used there. The latter allows to determine what types will be covered in Vol.2: Hawker Fury & Hurricane, Ikarus IK-2, Rogozarski IK-3, Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3a & Bf 110 C-4, and Potez 630/631. I warmly recommend this book and really look forward to obtaining Vol.2 which, according to the publisher, is being printed right now!

Illustrations were created by Janusz Swiatlon. All aircraft feature sexy nose art which is rarely seen on Supermarine Spitfires. For the very first time, artwork and markings of MT841 are correctly reproduced in decal form. The second 1/32 scale release is entitled “Eastern Front Fighters” and covers three different Messerschmitts flown by notable Luftwaffe aces in the East:

    - Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-7, ‘White 2’, flown by Lt. Heinrich Ehrler of 4./JG 5, Alakurtti, Finland, late April 1942.

    - Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-4 trop, WNr. 10266, flown by Maj. Gordon Gollob, Kommodore of JG 77, Oktoberfeld, Crimea, USSR, between June 2 and 6, 1942.

    - Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6, ‘White 10’, flown by Oblt. Robert ‘Bazi’ Weiß, Kapitän of 10./JG 54, northern sector of the Eastern front, USSR, January 1944.
