  1. What I really want, and may have started a rather ill fated attempt to complete my own art for is:

    MKK demonstrator 502

MKI demonstrator Blue 06 (pretty easy one)

But there are so many un-decalled Flanker schemes that are just downright beautiful. There are already the Linden Hill Stencil Sheets, just the aircraft specific markings need to be created.

all in 1/72 scale of course!

  2. Yeah,

I came up with some art for 502, the MKK demonstrator, and unfortunately they were sitting on the hard drive of my computer in the back of my truck for the last 7 months (as well as all of my models and equipment. I've finally moved into my own place and have been able to break all of that stuff out again in the last week and start working on some models again.)

I have done art for the specific markings as best as I can, but unfortunately I don't have any cool art programs, so it's in a .bmp format. I have it at 600 dpi right now and the files are correspondingly huge.

I do not have an ALPS Printer, and was planning on eventually getting this done once I had amassed enough other art to fill an entire page. There are some others in progress right now.

If someone wanted to do a run of the MKK markings, I'd be happy to offer up my art...

  3. I saw it on the news as well, small diameter counter weights on top of the verticle stabs, two seater, looked like with LANTIRN pods, and while the picture was distant and fuzzy, it did look like it had the GE Engines. My guess was F-15K as well.

  4. If it's truly to succeed the P-3, how about:

    Pattern Obstructor

    or

    Cable Befouler

Because that's pretty much all I ever see the P-3 do!!!

It's you and your damn FCLP's Karl! Sitting at the hold short for 30 minutes while those noise makers fly around and around in a circle is enough to make any pilot float it a little bit and knock the gear out of battery...

EA-6B "Three down and locked, cleared to land"

Tower - "Aircraft on final, go around, gear is out of battery"

    P-3 - "Oops! Hahahahaha!"

just giving you a bad time Karl...

  5. Gentlemen,

The U.S. Navy is out soliciting ideas for the name of the P-3 replacement aircraft based on the 737 airframe. It came out a while ago that it was to be designated the P-8, but now they are soliciting inputs for names.

The last few Patrol aircraft have been named for figures in Greek Mythology, the Neptune and the Orion. I was thinking along those lines, but I haven't come up with anything really good yet.

Triton? One of the american truck companies are already using that for a line of engines.

Aries - Taken by the EP-3

Apollo - Taken by the space missions

    Mercury - Taken by E-6

    Poseiden?

    Any good ideas?

  6. As I was looking for information on the P-3 Orions that Germany is getting, I came across this.

A little bit of a thread-jack, but I'm curious as to what more information you have dug up concerning the Marine P-3s. This is what I know so far:

They'll be stationed at Nordholtz, flying for MFG 3. They're getting new wing spars and a fully update mission systems suite from the Lockheed folks that is roughly comparable to the U.S. Navy's AIP, and the Norwegian UIP program. The Germans are supposed to have complete posession of the P-3s towards the end of this year I think. I've seen a couple of profiles of the color scheme and it seems to be reasonable considering the paint schemes for other P-3s around the world. They're supposedly going to be the overall gull grey, with the "anchor in while circle" insignia on the outboard of the outer engine nacelles. Codes on the sides aft, and the flag on the tail. Not very exciting, but who knows what it will actually wind up being.

I'm curious to see if you have seen anything else...

    Thanks,

    -Jared

  7. Hey Neu,

I got a few pictures of the X-31 while I was there a year or so ago as well. Unfortunately they are on my computer which is packed up right now. I took pictures down the left side of the aircraft and some close ups of the tail/exhaust area. Only about 30 or so if I remember correctly. I'm not particularly interested in that aircraft, so I didn't do a full walkaround, but figured I might as well take some pictures while I was there. They're all 1024x768, good quality picture, and if you're interested, I'll write a not to myself to e-mail them to you in about a month when I get my computer back.

While I was there I talked to one of the currators and they let me behind the ropes to do a full walkaround of the MiG-27 and the MiG-27MF, so I was pretty happy with that.

    Hope this helps,

    -Jared

  8. Thanks Prowler, those pics are great!

I'm getting pushed further and further towards building a Polish An-26, does anybody have a picture that shows the camoflague scheme on the upper surfaces?

    Ken,

I'm familiar with your An-22 and was even considering a "Antonov prop lineup" after seeing the gallery here a couple of days ago. But then I remembered how often I move, and that I don't have any dedicated display space, and I decided that maybe a An-26/An-72 display would be a bit more reasonable.

No matter what, a beautiful looking airplane...

    -Jared

  9. A-Model makes a kit of the An-26 in 1/72 scale too, it's supposed to be pretty nice as well.

I've kicked around the idea of doing one to put next to my An-72, the two light transports together, but I haven't decided if I'm going to do it or not yet...

  10. Master of Puppets is back ;)

Great work as always my friend :)

Too bad that israelis don't fly a-10 :D

That doesn't rule out a "What If" build.

I can see it now, the four color desert camoflague, maybe the scorpions on the tails, loaded with all kinds of weaponry. It would look pretty imposing, that is for sure...

  11. From Diego Himself:

    Dear Flanker Group Build participants,

First of all congratulations for the superb Flankers that you have build for this GB!

It was a really difficult job to choose between all these beauties, but I had to take a decision: As all these birds were beautifully done I had to consider other aspects. Knowing the quality of the different kits and conversions I had to find a Flanker that needed a special effort to be done.

Therefore, I have a real pleasure to announce the winner of this GB:

    Solher's Su-35 "Red 88"

    Enhorabuena, Juan !

The winner can choose 2 sets of decals ( 1/72 or 1/48) from our catalogue at:

    www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Hi-Decal_Line.htm

Many of the participants have unfortunately been lost "on the way" and so all that have build their Flankers in time deserve special congratulations and a reward! I have therefore the pleasure to offer a free decal sheet ( in 1/72 or 1/48 ) from our catalogue to ALL the participants that managed to finish their Flankers for this group build.

Please send me a PM with your choice and your postal address, so we could send you the selected sheets.

Once again my sincere congratulations to all and thanks for your effort !

    Diego Rogoz

  12. Looks really good Zmey.

One thing I noticed when I built my first Heller UB, and it would make sense that it would be the same on the Airfix birds too; it seems to me that they made the landing gear a bit too long. I don't have any measurements to back it up, it's just that after staring at so many pictures of Flankers, that when I looked at my Heller, it seemed to sit a little bit too high off the ground. What do you guys think? Am I seeing things?

Don't let my musings take away from a very nice build, congratulations Zmey!

    -Jared

  13. Here are the individuals that were able to get their Flankers wrapped up in time, congratulations to all that participated. Diego will make his announcement concerning the prize shortly I am sure, so keep your eyes posted (I know what's going to happen, but I'm not going to tell...)

    So here they are:

Alex Sidharta's Italeri TNI AU "B":

    Red 01

    Aussie Paul's Academy "B":

    Blue 31

    CW3 Erick Swanberg Hasegawwa "B":

    Blue 388

    dashotgun's Academy "B":

    Blue 24

    Jim Barr's Italeri Su-34:

    White 45

    Joachim's Revell "B":

    Blue 57

    solher's Academy with Sol Su-35:

    Red 88

    Zmey Smirnoff's Heller "UB":

    Red 61

Once again, thanks a lot, and I'm glad I got to see so many great Flankers!

    -Jared

  14. Looks very good Jim, I especially like the in flight presentation. Looks like you swapped the tails out for the Hasegawa items, or copies anyway?

How tough was closing up the landing gear wells? It looks like your turned out very smooth, but I can't imagine it was easy...

    congratulations,

    -Jared

  15. Please excuse my flanker ignorance, but is that a refuelling port on the spine there? If so, what do they use to refuel them?

    Thanks,

    Trev

    Hey Trev,

That block on the spine is a antenna of some sort, the baseline Flankers have no in flight refuel capability. A lot of the current export models do, however, with a "probe and drogue" system on the left side of the nose.

    -Jared

  16. That looks very nice, I'm curious, which paints did you use for the basic camoflague colors. They look good, and Flanker blues are notoriously enigmatic.

If you weren't already aware, there is a small group build going on here at this website, shooting at wrapping up at the end of Febraury. If you'd like to submit yours, you're more than welcome. At the end, whoever gets judged to have the coolest flanker gets a free decal sheet from Hi-Decals, via Diego himself!
