Charlie D, thank you. As far as the colors they were various greens from Tamiya that I mixed together and washed/dry brushed. The darker greens were cheap craft store acrylics. Sorry I can't be more specific than that. Els

I was a huge Iron Maiden fan back in the 80's and early 90's, so when I saw this at the LHS it was a mandatory purchase. I don't think that I have ever built an airliner kit before except for one of the what if Spruce Goose kits. I have seen that there are a few problems with the accuracy of this kit (engines, nose) but I am not worried about that because it is so big that I will just end up hanging it from the ceiling in my modelling room. It doesn't have a lot of parts so it should go together pretty fast. I wish it were in a smaller scale. The kit does not include any window i

Thank you. I am pretty happy with it.

I am calling this one done. I am pretty happy with how it turned out, it is good enough to be in my 2 foot airforce. The decals went on a lot better than I expected. I will post a couple of more pics in the completed section.

I have a spot that I can hang this from my ceiling. Its the 1:144 Revell 747 kit. Els

Your hard work shows, the kit turned out great. The red with the shading/weathering looks good. Red is not always easy to paint without it looking like a toy. Els -
Its been a while but I had a little time to work on the kit. A little masking tape and bit of styrene were used to make some belts for the seat. They are not great but good enough to indicate that there are some. I was about to glue the canopy on when I noticed I had not put the HUD in. Here is how I get the iridescent look for my HUDS. I bought a roll of this wrapping paper from Michaels. It should be enough to last me about 30 life times. Then I cut off a piece big enough to cover the clear plastic HUD. It doesn't have to be exact because it is easy to trim off later

11Bee, as I was going through all the pictures of the pilots on the link you posted I noticed that while all those men had gotten older, there was still an intensity in their eyes that told me that they were still Bad A$$es.

Wow, 3 days...The scheme you used with the metallic colors turned out great. The missiles add just the right amount of contrast to the darker colors of the Zero. I really like it. Els

Kurt, I did not paint the fuselage prior to adding the decals. There are some places where I had to put a little black paint to cover up areas where I used putty. This is the first time that I ever tried putting decals on bare plastic (kit plastic is black) and I hope they stay on for the long run. The Revell decals were so thick that I thought a coat of paint and a coat or two of future would have filled in the panels to the point that the decals would have just sat on the surface and no detail would show through. I have since put two coats of future over the wing and tail decals and

This kit is going together very fast. I guess this kit was originally produced so that it could be sold as a dual or single seat version. It has a large hole that needs to be covered where the second seat could have been. The problem is that the one piece spine that is supposed to cover this is not tall enough or wide enough. If you line up the left side you get the following gaps. It also sits to low for the canopy to fit correctly. I added some sprue to the bottom of the spine to lift it. You can see that the back end is now level and the canopy fits. A little putty an

Thanks everybody. It's a fun little kit. I wish they would make a B-24 in the same style. I see that Freedom Models is coming out with a super deformed C-130. I am pretty excited to build one of those. Els

I actually started building this kit yesterday but I could not get Flickr to play along. I have had this kit for a long time, I bought it when it first came out. The problem was that every time I would think about building it I would look at the decals and then put it back in the box. It has a huge decal sheet but that is not the problem. The problem is that the decals are very pixilated. Hopefully this will show up in the pictures. They are not as bad when you look at them as they are in the pictures but they are not good either. They are also very thick but I am going to giv

I am going to start on the 1:48 kit of 31 Squadron F-16A from the 1998 Tiger Meet. Els

After working on the two kits for the Revell group build I needed something quick and easy to restore some modelling Mojo. Usually an Egg Plane fits the bill in this circumstance but I had this little Meng kit on the shelf so I decided to give it a shot. It is a snap kit but I glued it because some of the seems would not stay closed up tight. It went together very well and I didn't use much putty. This is a great kit to give to a kid. The only downside to the kit is that it only comes with stickers and no water slide decals. I ordered some kits World 1:144 decals and used those. I had n

This is finally finished. I had to buy an additional decal sheet for all the stencils. The Illiad Design decals only come with the 3000th Phantom specific decals and nothing else. I also masked and painted on the gray walkways. I could only find three pictures of the actual aircraft wearing the 3000th markings and none of them showed the top of the plane, so I just went with what other aircraft of that time seemed to have. It is a Revell Phantom, kind of a pain to build but they look like F-4's when they are done. For me this one turned out good enough to be in my 2 foot Air Force.

I have always liked the designs of the fighters from Space Battleship Yamato/Starblazers. The details that you have added look great and if you didn't know that it was another scale you would never know it. The other two kits that you built look awesome and I can't wait to see how this one turns out. Els

I second Bikerider's suggestion of using the plastic bags. The last time I moved I used some big Zip Lock bags. It protects the model from what ever you use to cushion the kits and it also makes it much easier to find any small parts that get knocked off during the move. It is no fun digging through a million packing peanuts to find a missing gear door.

Thanks. Probably something I would never have done without this group build. Els

Its boring but its not boring. All the different shades you put into it really brings it to life.

Wow...very detailed. That last picture makes an excellent display.

I bought a three pack of wood bases to use for this and the F-4 I will get back to working on at some point. I like to use Future for my wood plaques because I can put a little paint in it and make quick gloss colors. Then I cut a hole in it and epoxied the acrylic rod with the kit into it. Then some Bondo was spread over the top and textured to resemble water. Some various blue's, a little dry brushing and a few coats of Future and it is done. And with that I am calling this one done. I found two different pictures of the antenna's on

Just about anyone can glue additional parts onto a kit but you are very good at making the extra parts look like they functional, should be there, and enhance the look of the kit. -
The yellow and black really go good with the metal. Great idea with the tarp.
