  1. Thanks for the coments guys. Tomcats are my favourite jets to build as you may have noticed... I will keep trying new things and hope to continue to improve. -Denis
  2. Thanks Catfan. Squadron is VF-154 Black Knights. I believe the decals were for OIF but not sure what year. The kit came with some JDAMS that I was going to use but switched out for the GBU-16s after I found out that the F-14A could not drop them. I'll use them for a future project, a CF-18 Hornet from the Libya campaign as that was the first time we dropped JDAMS in a conflict. -Denis
  3. Here are the two pics I had saved from the 1996 VF-103 Santa Cat. I cannot remember where I found the pics so I can't properly give credit. Maybe someone else recognizes them. I found them somewhere on the web when researching the 1/32 Eagle Strike Decals I found. If I made a copyright violation just let me know and I will take them off or just post a link to my photobucket page. Anyway, proof that the santa cat existed at two different times. -Denis
  4. More: Here you can see where I tried to do some panel scribing. First attempt ever, using a pin in a pinvise. I did a couple of lines and then got cold feet. However, in the end I don't think it was all that bad and will probably go trough with it next time. The weapons stencils that come with this kit were a nice touch and I have save the extras for other projects. Thanks again and Happy Modelling, -Denis
  5. Hi everyone, Here is my Academy 1/48 Bombcat. OOB with some lead foil straps on the seats and GBU-16s from the Hasegawa Weapons Set. Build log can be found here: http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=244007&st=0&p=2321701&fromsearch=1entry2321701 I really enjoyed this build inspite of the limitations of the kit. Mostly the intakes but I have an idea for the next time....Plus, I got to improve on some weathering skills. Anyway, the bombcat parts and weapons that come in the kit were well worth it and I now have lots of spares to use on my VF-103 Revell Ki
  6. Well folks, I'm calling this one done. Unfortunately even though Brian pointed out the mistake on the "skunk stripe" I did not end up correcting it as I felt that with the required masking etc... I would have caused more harm than good. I really enjoyed this build even with the limitations of the Academy Tomcat. The Bombcat parts and Air-to-Air weapons alone was worth the price of the kit so I have no regrets. Plus, I now have enough left-over Bombcat parts for my VF-103 project. Anyway, on to a couple of pics with the rest going in the Display Case Forum. Firstly, I was actually done a we
  7. Thanks for the nice words Dan, you are way too kind. Yup XF-56 Metallic Grey is what I ended up using and I think it better matches what I have seen on the 1:1 scale AIM-7s. The Cat is now done and sitting on my desk at work. I can bring it back home next week-end and have you over for coffee so you can check it out. Be sure to bring your CF-5A. The pics on LSP looked nice. -Denis
  8. I don't remember if I have seen the Winds of War but I do recall watching the follow-on Mini-Series, War and Remembrance. That series is probably what sparked my interest in Second World War history. For years I have wanted to get a hold of these series and watch them again, but I could never remember the title of the first set. Thanks to this thread I want to watch them again. -Denis
  9. Wow nice haul! I wish I could make a one time order like that! Good for you. I see the Revell F-14B that you mentioned you were waiting for. I can't wait to see it built as it is the only Revell Tomcat in that scale I haven't made. -Denis
  10. Hi, I just checked and I have one set of closed GE nozzels from a Hasegawa F-14B kit. -Denis
  11. I might be able to help you. I have 2 F-14 kits at home with those nozzles and I always model them open, so the closed ones will never get used. I'll check my stash tonight and get back to you. -Denis
  12. Yup, Easy Off is great stuff. I use the non-Toxic version, Blue can, to strip chrome parts for my muscle car models. Question: Will the non-toxic stuff work on stripping paint as well? -Denis
  13. Ya that does suck. Good luck with th -B. Is it the Revell -B? I look forward to see it!
  14. VF-103 also did a Santa Cat scheme at the end of the 1996 Enterprise cruise so it looks like the squadron did it twice. I have decals in 1/32 for that scheme and a couple of pics at home that took me a while to find online. I can send them to you when I am back home.
  15. Is that set still available? It will be perfect for doing my 769 tiger along with my 769 Lybia jet. -Denis
  16. Looks really nice so far. I am building the same kit but converting it to an F-14B with some aftermarket seats. WIP is over in the Ghost Town GB. I am also going to use left over Bombcat parts from my Academy kit. Good luck, I look forward to see how this one turns out.
  17. Dan "ALF18" McWilliams had lots of pics from when the "Navy" Demo Hornet was envailed back in 2010. Maybe check with him? -Denis
  18. Hey Scooby, How was Boozer doing? I saw him a month before he left Bagotville and he was still recovering from the ejection. Riderfan, I would also be in the market for getting some in all 3 scales as I only started to control the CF-18s after the FIP markings were implemented and thus I am not too interested in making models of our Hornets from the Symetrical Era. Plus, I have noticed that kit decals are usually sub-par so the market is probably there. -Denis
  19. Hey everyone, Entering the GB with a 1/48 Revell F-14D converted to a -B. The decals are from VF Decals for AA-100 Buno 162918. The Kit: The 'Pit: The Bang Seats from True Details, however since getting this kit I have aquired a Hasegawa F-14B and starting to consider swapping these for the Hase kit seats. Here is the status of the build as I had started it for the CONA GB but ran out of time. Only the cockpit was completed and installed, as well as the nose gear well. The Decals: I am just putting the finishing touches to my current build, an Academy F-14A Bopmbcat, so I p
  20. For an Op MOBILE CF-18 the pilot's name and squadron symbol were painted over with grey so you don't have to worry about those decals. -Denis
  21. Resurecting this as I will be near Doha for a while starting this summer. Can anyone comment on the situation in the Doha area as it stands now? I found this site but they seem to cater to RC flyers: http://www.thehobbyland.com/homepage.html Cheers, Denis
  22. Thanks Brian, Hmmm...I was following what the instructions showed. Since this was mostly a learning\fun build I did not put too much research into the specific subject. However, I do have to use the same colour for the antennaie and fix a scratch on the tail fins, so I could fix this too. The only pics I had of the NK-101 were from the sides so I didn't know about the black stripping. I can't seem to find a pic of the top. I'll take a look at the few books I have. Thanks for the info. Denis
  23. Will this set allow me to backdate to an F-8C? If so then I might just have to try to find the cash for it. Denis
  24. Thanks Mike. Your VF-0 conversion has been a joy to watch as well. Anyway, a quick update. I started with a wash and tried something different. After following the panel lines and waiting a few minutes I wiped the excess wash with a paper towel in the direction of airflow. I first tried this on the wings and thought it look good so then continued on with the upper fuselage. Let me know what you think. Before: After: Upper Fuselage: I have since finished the was on the entire airframe and will wait a day before sealing with a flat coat. Then I'll almost be done!
