  1. After acquiring a few more kits in the last few months I will update my subject list. I now have 10 US Navy subjects, 9 are Tomcats. Since the GB is so long my goal will be to complete as many of these as possible. I will start with the kits that are going to be OOB since I am still waiting for some AM for the other kits. First up will be the 1/72 F-14D. Here is what I have. 1/72 Academy Wildcat (OOB) Hasegawa F-14A SP2 (Fujimi VF-84 Decals, AM Cockpit) Hasegawa F-14A+ (Kit decals or AM VF-103 Decals) Hasegawa F-14D VF-2 Final Cruise Boxing (Traded decals with Kurnass77 for VF-101 Grim R
  2. This is a great topic thread. I too had the same questions regarding enamel paints. Mostly MM Enamels since they seem to have a wider range of colours I need. Before my modelling hiatus I was using the old school testors enamel paints with rattle cans for main colours. Since getting back into the hobby with the ability to commit to an airbrush etc., I have been using acrylics, mostly Tamiya. I recently got a gravity feed AB for X-Mas to complement my Badger 200, and bought one colour of the Vallejo ModelAir to try with it. I like the idea that it is ready to airbrush from the bottle but I a
  3. They all look really nice. I especially like the Sea King and it's grimey weathering behind the exhaust. Denis
  4. Looks awesome. Love that it`s VF-84, I plan to do the same build one day. Denis
  5. Your attention to detail is amazing. I can only hope to do as well when I finally tackle my large scale Tomcats. I can't wait to see more. Keep up the great work. Denis
  6. I'm glad you did bump this thread. Since getting my large scale cats I've been checking the WIPs and somehow missed this one. Great work so far Anders, I can't wait to see more. Denis
  7. I just found this thread and just gotta say, Oh My God!!!! :) The quality and skill you show here are superb. I can only wish my models to ba as nice when I start detailing. Keep up the great work! Denis
  8. Wow! Very well done! I would go bonkers trying to work in this scale but you did a superb job. Denis
  9. I agree with catfan and JMan. From the picture it looks like your "problem" helped with the weathering. I say press forward and finish it. Worst case scenario, you can call this one a practice and do another. Denis
  10. Welcome back to the hobby Cleric and welcome to ARC, I got back into the hobby myself about 3 years ago starting with cars and tanks. Only in the last year have I been getting into aircraft and like you am a newbie to ARC. I would suggest looking at Revell kits to start off and practice on. The 1/48 sclae kits are quite inexpensive and the newer offerings are nicely detailed, IMHO. The buy and sell forum is also a great place to find stuff. I have gotten 8 of my 9 Tomcat kits there at great savings, even after shipping to the Great White North, LOL. Just remember, have fun with it and don
  11. Wow! Your work is seriously tempting me to try this scale. Simply amazing! Denis
  12. This build looks awesome and can't wait to see more! One question: how did you weather the cockpit? Some sort of white wash? The panels look really nice now. Denis
  13. Great work on the Bombcat, Qian. I plan to tackle my first F-14 really soon and can only hope to do such a wonderful job. Happy Holidays, Denis
  14. Ohhhh! I'll be watching this one closley as I plan to do the same build in the future. Looking good so far. Denis
  15. Great to see the Clunk getting some love here. I esspecially like the museum example that has a nice shiney finish. I have a few pics of the Canuck on pedistales that I have taken while on TD that I will post once I get back on my PC at home. Denis
  16. PM sent on the F-14 kits and some decals from your other post. Denis
  17. Need to find a drooling emoticon. These decal look superb. Now to give VF-84 F-14As some love, please. Denis
  18. Wow! Great job so far. Your rivet work is awesome and I really like the weathering with oil streaks. Denis
  19. My suggestions: 1/48 and/or 1/72 Aircraft: CF-100 Avro Canuck F-8C Crusader (VF-84) F-4B/N Phantom II (VF-84) F3H-2M Demon (VF-61) F-14A Tomcat (VF-84 1976-1979) F9F-2 Panther (VF-61) F9F-6 Cougar (VF-61) FJ-3 Fury (VF-61) Finally either 1/350 and/or 1/700 scale: USS Enterprise CV-6 Now to see what they do. Denis
  20. Great work on the CC-137 Dan. Nice to see it done in the tanker configuration. Now you need to do an Airbus tanker to go with it. I also appreciated your story to go along with it. Although he did not deploy to the Gulf, my father was a mechanic in the CC-137 Squadron at Trenton at the time and I remember him telling me about the same story. I did not know, however, that there had to be seperate certifications depending on the airframe being re-fueled. Denis P.S. If you don't have time for all of your subjects you can send some my way. LOL!
  21. I am definately up for joining this GB, especially since I now have 6 Tomcats in my stash of various scale. Although, with a year for the GB timeline I could start pressing forward with my project of building all the airframes used by the Jolly Rogers. in the meantime you can put my name down with the 1/72 Hasegawa F-14D VF-2 Final Cruise. Denis
  22. Thanks for the kind remarks Holmes. I'll take what I learned here and build upon them for my next builds. Especially the pre-shading I did here as I am quite happy how it turned out. Since finishing I have added 6 tomcats of various scales to my stash and can't wait to start them. No display in the plans. i have never done one yet and am still debating on whether or not to do it. Although I have thought about putting a 1/72 Tomcat on one ready to launch off the carrier. Denis
  23. Agreed. Looking good so far. I have been eyeing the same kit at the local store, so I'll be following this build with interest. Denis
  24. Good start Dave. I'll be watching this closely to compare it to the 1/48 Fujimi and the 1/72 Hasegawa in my stash. One question: What are you planning to do with the kit decals? I am looking for 1/72 Jolly Rogers decals for my Hasegawa F-14A. Cheers, Denis
