Pretty much.  Both the C and D have bulged tires.  The main visual difference is the sensor fairing under the nose.  The C had the same fairing as the original B models.  Early in their lives, Cs were fitted with the straight USN style inboard pylons.  Some early Ds had the fairing removed, so the radome was smooth, while later it was reinstalled with a hump underneath when RWAH gear was installed.  Also, it could carry the AIM-4 Falcon, although the missile quickly turned out to be unsuccessful in combat use and was dropped.

Now is the C variant a navy or Air Force? I am doing revells 1/48 scale F4c Phantom and it has a tail hook. So I am confused if it is a navy fighter or Air Force?

  2. Thanks for all your help both of you guys. Appreciate it. I have the revell 1/48 phantom. There is very few aftermarket goodies it’s time for surgery. Lol! Now I just need to find the blueprints so I can do panels and rivets!

  3. I have a 1/200 scale revell lionfish model. They do t make any PE or or aftermarket decks in that scale. They do make stuff for ships I could improvise In 1/200 scale. Now would that make a difference on how it looks or would it not make any difference at all

Didn't mean you shouldn't bother with them--with some work and TLC they build up fine, and apparently Revell has done a 1/48 combo I wasn't aware of. If that's what you have, the smaller scale actually works to your advantage.

Have built the MiG-21PF in both scales (and have 2 1/32 in the stash) and they look the part.

If you have the 1/48, the Navy F-4J might be the Monogram kit (nice kit) or a 1/48 pantograph of the old 1/32 Revell F-4J. Again, with some work it builds out fine.

If you're building for fun, go for it. I had fun building my old Revells and Monograms back in the days before the web was here to rain on the parade or drop a torpedo in the punch bowl.

Hope I'm not guilty of that!

No you are not. I was just looking to see what variant they were thanks!

  5. I have the monogram F4C phantom model and is there any difference between that and the F4D variant. I am have trouble finding the difference (I guess I am not looking hard enough hahaha) when building it would there be a difference in using any photo etch or resin parts

  6. My question is let’s say I have  a Revell model (insert what ever plane you want) let’s say there is no photo etch or resin kits available, but for the Tamaya kit of the plane of the same scale there is a plethora of stuff for it. Now would those parts fit the Revell model or is it completely different tooling or just a marketing thing.

  7. I don't think so. I have learned a lot by looking at what other people did and trying it and adapting it to what I want to build and use that idea for. And sometimes you can find a better way to go about something and improve upon it and give that knowledge back to the modeling community. Its not like you are giving away the secret to the Coke Cola recipe.

  8. i was wondering where everyone gets all the blue prints of all these aircraft. i am in CAD class and need projects to do and thought hey! why not do some stuff for my habbit. if anybody can help out would greatly appreciate it thanks.
